Swim baits have become my biggest confidence bait simply because of your page. In MN I caught my PB of a 7.6lb. That's a monster bass up here. Thank you. You guys are for the angler that is just above a new angler that is really wanting to dial in their skills and you're the best on TH-cam.
I love how you guys can do a video on a topic you have covered 15 other times and i still always learn new information... Or get reminded of something i should be doing. You guys are literally the best out there doing this. Thanks guys!
I love how this channel isn't brand driven like a great deal of others. The beauty of TH-cam, these guys can make money and be objective about what they review without any strings attached.
So informative and best of all he is not brand loyal just recommending googan baits or strike king. He actually does his homework and gives the best ideas that he can. ty mat for being the greatest.
Pretty impressed. Was looking for info about swim jigs and swimbaits, saw your video and almost skipped it, 30 minutes was not the time I had to obtain simple information. Guess what, saw it all, and enjoyed it all. Very informative. Now I will go out and see if I can catch some snakehead or jungle perch. :-)
Tons and tons of information here. Rewind 6 years ago I got told by an old timer to start at every lake with one or the other. (Swimbait/Swimjig) Always been a staple bread and butter for me. Sweet video man!
Matt, I completely agree with your observations on finesse swimjigs, in particular the thinned out skirt. My approach is I've swapped out the standard full skirts on my finesse swimjigs with the Z-Man EZ SkirtZ that come on my original Chatterbaits. The Chatterbaits look better in the water thumping with the extra skirt strands on the standard collared skirts. BETTER STILL, the paddletail swimbaits kick MUCH BETTER on my finesse swimjigs once rigged with the EZ SkirtZ and their single layer of skirt strands.
really facinating how anyone can "un-like" any of these vids. all of the knowlege afforded here has taken me from green to the back of the boat for locals in a little over a year. there is no accessible fundamental knowlege resource for our sport that can remotely compare to what Matt and Tim give us. hail. i wish i could post the progression pics..but i stopped taking pics months ago
Got my pb 7lber and a 6.6 lber on the 1/8th ounce guppy head with a 3.2 keitech. Never would have considered throwing these if not for you guys great videos! Thanks for all you do and actually teaching fishing instead of trying to entertain us! Best channel on you tube!
Awesome video! In the future I’d like to see more videos on breaking down conditions and building a pattern! It’s so interesting to watch you guys take conditions and think “”this is perfect for a small swimbait”” have one short strike a bait or follow it and you just know what to switch to that’ll put those fish in the boat it’s very interesting. Keep up the awesome content!
Thank you Matt for an exceptional educational presentation. Until today, I had no tactical understanding of how to fish those baits. So simple; so fundamental. Thank you for taking time to teach. Now I go fishing.
You have made me such a better angler. The Swimbait and swim jig has been the most awesome baits for me. I’ve been putting that 6th sense divine Swimbait on my swim jig nice look. Thanks awesome video
Suggestion for another video - As you are travelling and trying new lakes place the camera in front of your electronics and explain/interpret what you are seeing and how it influences your decisions. Great video Matt, thanks
Even though I use the baits that you recommend, when you say that we could use any brand swim jig, I know you're just doing this to give us the best information you can, and not because you're beholden to any brand. Thank you, Matt.
I just caught my first bass with your recommended swim jig. It was amazing how good this lure went throw bulrushes line. Now I have a new option to target bass. Thanks!!
Dude, I've got the fever real, real bad. I fished a lot as a kid and recently realized how much I've missed it. What a great channel!! I've been watching a ton of Bass fishing videos and for me, you're the standard. It's like cheating!! Great channel brother, keep it up!
I fished my Kietech 4.8 for the first time this morning at first light on an owner flashy swimmer and it got hit like crazy, on a body of water I haven’t had much luck in here in TX! These videos are so great and incredibly helpful, especially for us new bass anglers. The TB Kool-Aid is for real and I’m having seconds! Thanks Matt and Tim!
I used the 3/8oz Tactical finesse Tennessee shad with a 4.3 electric bluegill Keitech and caught my PB up here in Canada. Right at a ledge going from 6' to 13'. You guys are great and the best resource for guys really trying to hone in their approach. Great work as usual guys!
It's crazy how similar Matt & I fish! The Keitech Swing Impact FAT has been my confidence bait for years, & when they seem to be skiddish I drop down to the Easy Shiners! They're my bread & butter, I've caught quality fish all over Michigan & had the most amazing bass fishing of my life in Minnesota this spring-summer transition. Going to have to give the D walker & Swammer a try if Matt thinks they're better trailers than a Keitech!
Man I’ve been waiting for you guys to give some love to that Easy Shiner! You can throw it weightless on a 2/0 offset like a fluke and it has a DEADLY wobble twist on the fall. I’ve been catching fish on it from pre-spawn to bed fish to post spawn this year.
I love the videos. They cover a lot of areas. Sometimes to much. For us weekend warriors we can't always afford all the different baits that are mentioned. You guys have an arsenal. It gets confusing because of this. I bet I've watched a thousand videos but my fishing hasn't improved that much. Would love to see some videos on must have general baits. Maybe a video on the water from locating the fish, choosing a bait and catching the fish. A simple walk through fishing for dummies video. I think my head is jumbled with info that is hurting me more than helping. Thanks! You guys are awesome!
Hey Matt, speaking of roboworm swimbait that's discontinued, I found two of them the other day in my plastics bag. I put one on my ouze swim jig. I'm pairing the other on a California swig jig. Thanks for the 411!!!
This channel is where I learned 90% of my bass fishing knowledge, and every year I still learn more. Thanks for the content. However, did anyone else notice that Matt is wearing shorts? Lol this might be a first for me. You know you fish a lot when your hands and face are a different color than your legs 😂.
I still got a stash of Roboworm EZ shad, been pairing those up w/Cali swim jigs for a while now. That's how long i been listenin to TB... good stuff Matt
I've had a ton of success over the last year with the Megabass Uoze Swim Jig. A combo of an underspin and swim jig, it's been phenomenal for me. Seems to be a bit the best of both worlds
Up in the wisconsin cheese, all we throw is black and blue with a white trailer and we burn em through the thick brush, steady retreive, but when it gets caught up keep cranking, once it gets free, it darts out and creates some of the best reaction bites out there.
I have become a much improved fisherman because I watch your videos. Thanks a lot. I was wondering if you could do a video on propped hookset, by techniques, baits, hooks etc.. Thanks again for the videos.
Really started using XZone stuff a lot this year. Very under rated company. Thanks for the awesome tips Matt. Hope you guys have a good holiday weekend.
Matt... great video like all of y’all’s videos... I had a question on the finess jig with the RivertoSea trailer... do you trim that trailer up to make it fit the jig better... thanks again for all y’all do ... and if you’re ever down I-20 in Texas, you got a meal at my BBQ joint in Sweetwater Tx... Thanks
I’ve been throwing Keitechs for 6 or 7 years. Definitely the best. But can’t help wishing they weren’t main stream. I’m glad for the company. But I hate that so many people know my secret now! 😂
I exclusively throw the Cali & No Jack, and have found that I get more body roll with the Keitech, which I only throw the 4.8in and bigger on the 1/2 & 3/4oz. I will definitely give the D Walker a shot though. And for those who use Keitechs and have problems with them staying on, just dab a small drop or two of supler glue on the hook keeper before sliding the swimbait on, makes a huge difference.
Awesome vid! I second regarding the Keitech Fat. I tried other brands and they also catch fish but the Fat swing impacts catch more fish for me. I think it's all in the mind or it's all in the squid flavour =)
I agree. I also think it is the combination of kick, softness and scent that makes it very efficient in catching fish. Whatever it is, Keitech knows how to make ribbed swimbaits! Rage swimmer and menace are where my confidence lies in swim jigs but I would like to try that D walker next, Matt's the man for sure.
As always great video! Thanks Matt. I would like to add some thoughts on the Guppy Head. I feel that the bait keeper is way too bulky for the fragile, small 2.8 Keitech's. In my eyes Dirty Jigs would improve this swimbait head with some sort of fine wire keeper. Also I would love to see these heads with a 60° angle line tie (as with the Tactical Bassin Finesse Head) for a more unstable run. What do you think out there?
I try to keep up with all the twists and tricks while my longtime fishin' partner throws/substitutes/adapts 3 worms in 3 different styles for any soft plastic situation; strait tail, curly tail, & ribbon tail, in 3 colors; Junebug, red shad, and purple, nay 4; he just recently added redbug, and out fishes me every time in our tannin-stained central Florida waters. I think i have more fun that he does though. LOL My dad also used exclusively a blue strait-tailed worm because that's what was available in the 60's, then when purple came out, he switched to that. He didn't know anything about the light spectrum and that purple (ultraviolet) is the last color to disappear in the water, but the lure developers apparently did, and purple became the new blue, and he too caught more bass than than i do now.
Great video again guys although we don't have large mouth bass your tips and tricks and a lot of the lures you guys use across the pond convert to the species we catch here in the UK perch, chub, pike and our European sea bass 👍🏼👍🏼
Keitech used to have a color called dark sculpin and it’s a top 10 color for me. I have a few left but not a ton. Luckily I bought a ton of them a while back but they just get destroyed. I wish you and Tim would make a guppy head with a screw lock keeper. It gets so torn up with softer baits that the keeper just doesn’t hold long.
Couldn't agree more about that keitech 4" easy shiner. I get so many more bites on those then any other swimbaits. And I'm in FL where the big bass live. Gambler might be a close 2nd for me.
Here in Tennessee, we fish weeds with 1-1/4 oz or 1-1/2 oz Spinnerbaits, the same way you fish weeds with that 3/4 oz swimjig. Toss it in the middle, and rip it out instead of pulling through the lanes. Figured that out a long time ago👍
I use these baits like clockwork I just got a 22 inch monster smallie on lake erie swimbait. Then canesus lake a monster largemouth swim jig the versatility is incredible can throw em anywhere
I remember back when you were first talking about working with Dirty Jigs to make the swimjig. Long hair, roadside canal video and all. If I remember correctly when guys first started talking about swimming a jig it was mainly pointed heads and the fastest gear ratios you could find (at the time it was about a 7:1) and simply burning them back in. Do you guys do this at all or are there other techniques you use for hyper fast retrieves ?
Matt, from what I've seen persoanlly the YUM Pulse Swimbait has EXTRAORDINARY side-to-side rocking. It also seems to be much tougher plastic than my Keitechs. So, is the YUM Pulse a good candiadte for being a swimjig trailer?

Hey Matt, im sure you have, but have you ever tried a craw trailer for a swim jig like a Strike King rage craw or a Googan Baits crackin’ craw? I seem to have good luck with a black and blue swim jig and craw trailer.
So would you recommend a swim jig as a go to bait for bank fishing? Conditions would be a lot of vegetation to get through. I’m wondering if the swim jig or Texas rigged XYZ bait would be better for bank fishing lakes? Thanks for the great videos!
Sweet video!! Matt, have you ever tried the Jackall i-Shad as a trailer on a chatterbait or swim jig? The action is crazy. I was cutting the tails off my keitech until I found the i-shad.
