My mom used to blast this at like 100% on the TV back when I used to not understand the lyrics. Know I come back to this about every 2 months just for the nostalgia
God, I remember seeing this debut as a kid and just being entirely enamoured by the music and the animation. My life has never been the same since, I'm 27 now, so more of my life has been lived loving gorillaz, than not loving them. I watched this one scene of Jamie hand drawing the animation lines for the gorillas walkimg in profile, on a light box, and I BEGGED my mum to get me one, we were poor af at the time, so I waited a few weeks until she could afford it and i was obcessed with drawing on it. Without that I don't think id be an artist now, and I'd definitely be missing so much from my life that I adore.

Unrelated, but I saw these guys in concert and 2D is front stage as the lights shine on him, and he's playing the melodica and the song starts. BRUH. What a night. Best concert hands down I've ever seen. All the local random ass bands were included in many, if not all songs. I wanted to hear feel good, but I am so glad I got this. I will never forget that night. The effort that went into that was just astonishing. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat.

This song came out when i was like 8 or 9, I'm 30 now and have grown to really appreciate it even more now BUT the cultural touchstone this song was when it came out was very evident even to a child like me. It shook the world, Del was buzzing underground and this was Gorillaz' first single and it took over the radio and television waves. And to think Del did his verse after the song was already finished with two other artists' verses on his way out the door in 30 min. only because he was a fan of Jamie Hewlett's iluustrative work. And to think that the instrumental came from a keyboard's preset.
I'm a couple years older than you, but I remember living del already, the. This song came out, and is so damn good. I can't believe del didn't reach more mainstream appeal than this. He's still much more conscious and a wayyyy better lyricist than most of his time and today. Unrelated, but I saw these guys in concert and 2D is front stage as the lights shine on him, and he's playing the melodica and the song starts. BRUH. What a night. Best concert hands down I've ever seen. All the local random ass bands were included in many, if not all songs. I wanted to hear feel good, but I am so glad I got this. I will never forget that night. The effort that went into that was just astonishing. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat.

This song came out when i was like 8 or 9, I'm 30 now and have grown to really appreciate it even more now BUT the cultural touchstone this song was when it came out was very evident even to a child like me. It shook the world, Del was buzzing underground and this was Gorillaz' first single and it took over the radio and television waves. And to think Del did his verse after the song was already finished with two other artists' verses on his way out the door in 30 min. only because he was a fan of Jamie Hewlett's iluustrative work. And to think that the instrumental came from a keyboard's preset.

I'm a couple years older than you, but I remember living del already, the. This song came out, and is so damn good. I can't believe del didn't reach more mainstream appeal than this. He's still much more conscious and a wayyyy better lyricist than most of his time and today. Your phone has a inverted speaker. Meaning that the speaker is a mono speaker, the waves from that line cancel. It works on older computer speakers as well. This happens on my phone too haha. It's pretty trippy
