I am that girl in the beginning and the end (yes my hair is smaller now). The band never knew me. I was friends with the videographer. Amazing to still be a tiny part of the experience after all these years.
iconic 🙌
So cool!
Hope you've had a [wide]-range[ing] life!
I hope you didn't get sand in your shoes. That would be uncomfortable.
Amazing to see you!!
You know what I love in the middle of my favorite song? A nice, loud, atonal _BEEEEEP._
its lowk so funny
laughed my ass off. insanely low quality censor, too. pavement never misses @@mappple
Fuck meaningless censorship by the fucked up morals of the man!
Its HILARIOUS
This is my absolute favorite band in the world and nothing will ever change that.
10yrs later are they still your favorite band?
That is what I thought too until I came across Foster The People.
What if I say they suck? Ok, got it, just thought I'd ask.
Wot if ah said they wur shite
@@stephenwalker850 What if I said you can’t speak properly
This album changed my life no lie. It came out in my senior year in high school and suddenly I was an “indie kid”. I was o seeded with Pavement and Guided By Voices and it felt like they were my own little secret.
Holy smokes! I came to know about Guided by Voices and Pavement on the same very same night. That night was one of the greatest nights of my life.
Little secrets, indeed. BIG secrets were for Sebadoh or Vic Chesnutt... ; )
I remember watching Pavement in the royal court in Liverpool as a young lad. Weirdly enough we spotted John Peel alone in the crowd looking like someone's lost dad. It wasn't until many years later I realised the significance of that moment. Great band, liked by great people.
+VyktorAbyss Boss band. Peel...boss man. My Alfella used to stand by him in the kop years ago & as if by fucking magick teenage kicks has just come on my mp3 player!!! I shit you not! Synchro to fuck!!
Haha, Peel :D He knew his shit :')
Wasnt peel a bit dodgy?
I'm originally from the Wirral exiled in the glorious tumultuous South (cough) and I have actually filmed in the Royal Court lol. Its funny to find a little Merseyside corner here in the comments. Pavement do suit Merseyside, it's that oddball surrealism, laid back shruggy thing and humour.
John Peel fantastic DJ, from Heswall as well.
I'm Liverpool born and bred and also a big Pavement fan. I think it's the similar "I don't give a fuck, whatever" attitude that Scousers have that make Pavement appealing to us. The band Grandaddy also have a similar style to Pavement. Loose and intentionally clumsy sounding, but with a strong sense of melody and great songwriting.
This song makes me nostalgic for a life I never lived.
Hope you got there
@@yomama9567 Heheheheheheheh NOT IN 2020!!! heh heh heh. heh...
I feel nostalgic. I lived it. Fully. Reason why I'm nostalgic.
No shit
You explained it perfectly Bayard
👏👏
this makes me long for the early nineties... great music, great clothes... late teens... wore my "Dirty"-t shirt, knee long black shorts
+docs, and just walking around with my friends, giggling, quoting movies and books and the future was ahead of you....
You nailed it. Just going to watch a movie with friends, and then standing in the parking lot after and just talking about everything and nothing until wee hours of the morning. What freedom, and beauty in a simple thing ❤
I think it's foolish to have a favourite song by a band, particularly in the case of such a strong one, but this one gives me smiles wider than any else. it's a delicate country song, and very precious. indeed, a very precious song.
You are right .. it’s precious
Their sincerity tinged with sarcasm is a special brew. "Gold Soundz" is number 1 for me, but this is definitely in the top 10 forever.
@Owen J Samone you're right, it's a precious song
I’m 56 and somehow I missed out on this band. I don’t know how, they are AMAZING!!!
Same, and I'm 67.

I'm just living in Pavement music videos tonight :)

I hear that. I saw them on this tour I think, at least the egg shirts were out there and the stupid Frat Boy idiots started throwing stuff and the band walked off the stage. But in some miracle the band got back together to play a good decade later in Central Park and despite all the rumored arguing that show was so good, so much fun.
"Don't worry, we're in no hurry, schools out, what did you expect?"
I don't know why those lines hit so hard but they do
same, is that holden?
Wow. This really brings back a flood of smiles, tears, pains, loves, apathy, motivation, and confusion.
Amen it hurts but it also feels liberating
Wow. Never realized how amazing that starting riff is. The intentional dissonance is so peripheral , it's awesome. Great tune
I grew up in the nineties but only now realize how great Pavement is.
❤
I remember the first time I heard this song. It was only about four years ago- I was a junior in high school. I'd never really given "indie" a chance, and Pavement had always been that fringe band in the back of my mind that I always meant to check out. I stumbled across this video one day and was just like, damn, I've never heard vibes like this before. It just resonated on such an easy level. Opened up so many doors. Probably the most important moment in my musical development over the years
Well done. You chose wisely.👍
Nice mine was probably Sonic Youth around 15 year old
Pavement is definitely on the soundtrack of my youth! Still have a concert tee from 1995
It's really nice seeing all these good comments about pavement, makes me think my dad was actually a cool person lol
he was
Your mom was cooler.
You're lucky he didn't believe in Safe Sex!
No. your dad was way cool.props!
Indeed he was!
ugh this video is the best, those beautiful shots of them playing at the festivals with the lens flare and lighting 💕 best band, best videos, best songs
Looks like most (if not all) was shot at the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands.
I was there and I remember Malkmus telling a joke, but right before the punchline he turned away from the mic, facing the band. They all laughed, all of us heared nothing and then they played the next song...
1:30 the walking bass line I always looks forward to. Just a brilliant song and man does this video trigger some memories.
This song makes me want to travel back to the 90s
Great time for live music, truly: 1992-1996.
After the glow, the scene, the stage
The sad talk becomes slow but there's one thing I'll never forget
Hey, you gotta pay your dues before you pay the rent
Over the turnstiles and out in the traffic
There's ways of living, it's the way I'm living, right or wrong
It's all that I can do and I wouldn't want to let you be
I want a range life if I could settle down
If I could settle down then I would settle down
I want a range life if I could settle down
If I could settle down then I would settle down
Run from the pigs, the fuzz, the cops, the heat
Pass me your gloves, this crime it is never complete
Until you snort it up or shoot it down, you're never going to feel free
Out on my skateboard the night is just humming
And the gum smacks are the pulse I'll follow if my walkman fades
Well, I got absolutely no one, no one but myself to blame
Don't worry, we're in no hurry, school's out, what did you expect?

One day we will pass but rock and roll is forever
the first time I listen to them, I have already fallen in love with this song
Was there anything that these guys COULDN'T do? What a great rollicking mess of a song. And who would know that Stephen Malkmus was to go on from Pavement to such a prolific and spectacular career? Breathless excitement at each new release, always full of surprise and wonder...
Love this , reminds me of a Lou Reed song .
Glad to see the Scott Weiland tributes are pouring in.
He was one hell of an elegant bachelor.
+Hal Emmerich What's this got to do with STP and/or Scott Weiland? I really don't get it. The song sucks.

also, that's an opinion. Pavement, IMO, is one of the greatest '90s bands that could practically play nearly every genre with their own unique slacker spin. I love their insurgent country songs.

Discovered Pavement yesterday and all the comments beneath these videos just make me so happy.. this band is so great
One of my favorites songs really. It goes beyound the video, this song is among my absoulute best of my lifetime. So long Pavement and Malkmus!
… if I could settle down .. if I could settle down.. then I would settle down …My personal anthem .. MASTERPIECE…
Man I get nostalgic watching these songs, saw them at Reading not the festival, England with their old drummer handing out playing cards to the crowd coming in, I didn't even know he was part of the band as I had just heard their music on records! sigh
During my visits to Vancouver, BC, I always felt like a character in a Pavement video.
Lol why? I’m wondering because I live there
must have visited in august then because the rest of the year is dreary
I made a mix CD with this song on it and put "1979" by Smashing Pumpkins right before it. Ha.
+drummer4916 as Homer Simpson says... "I get jokes."
+drummer4916 That's great man. I like it.
I get the joke but both songs instantly gave me nostalgia for my teenage years when they came out (while I was still a teenager).
They used to. They still do too.
I first heard this song when I was 19, and I wanted a range life. Now I am 47 and I have settled down, and it is quite nice. But sometimes can be a little sad, just like this song....
Pavement are brilliant..'brighten the corners' is a superb old album too..give it a go people
Such a pretty song . 👍
I love this song and Pavement and i am pretty much sure i am in this video albeit in the crowd at the UK festival gigs. Very very happy memories
If angels made music. THIS is what it would sound like, beautiful
Evan Martin Heaven must be a really boring place then.
Yeah dude Slayer bro pshhh shut the fuck up. Look we get it man you got made fun of growing up but that doesn't have to define you dog. I miss dimebag as much and if not more than these guys and that's the god honest truth, but live your own life instead of vicariously trying to bother others. It makes you look really...really pathetic. I'm sure there's a band out there these days toilet shit grunting a song you can relate to and be happy with.
Andrew Beavers bro take a fucken CHILL PILL MAN...smoke the weed the ganja herb my man
I floated over here on Billy Corgan's tears. Hi!
This is the ultimate Festival song from the ultimate festival band.Just get wasted with the crowd, then go on stage and have fun.I could happily sit on the grass, smoking weed in the sunshine, listening to these guys, all day.
Please explain your comment.K.
"Out on my skateboard the night is just humming
And the gum smacks are the pulse I'll follow if my walkman fades"
These damn slackers could write some real poetry when they could, y'know, be bothered
That is the sort of attention to detail why I subscribe to the London Review Books. But it's a waste of effort.
I feel like Pavement always bothered. All of their lyrics are pretty obtuse and interesting, and maybe some of them were just the first odd thing stephen came up with but I'm willing to bet a lot of them have serious thought put in. Those are some damn great lines, though, yeah
No, they couldn’t. It’s all garbage.

Non native speaker here. What does a 'range life' means?
