Lyrics:
Harness your hopes on just one person
You know, because a harness was only made for one
Don't telegraph your passes, you'll end up with molasses
Cauterized in syrup and syrup's not molasses
And I'm checking out the asses, the assets that attract us
To anything that moves, we're deep inside the groove
And it's time to shake the rations 'cause someone's gonna cash in
The movie starts at ten, the plot, it never ends
Well, show me a word that rhymes with pavement
And I won't kill your parents and roast them on a spit
And don't you try to etch it or permanently sketch it
Or you're gonna catch a bad, bad cold
'Cause the freaks have stormed the White House
I lived inside a lighthouse
It's on a scenic quay, it's, oh, so far away
Far away from the beginning, the shroud is made of linen
The goth kid has a hearse, the filly lost her purse
Nun is to church, as the parrot is to perch
And my heart's wide open, truly
Leisure, a leisure suit is nothing
It's nothing to be proud of in this late century
And I'm asking you to hold me just like a morning paper
Pinched between your pointer, your index, and your thumb
It's a semi-automatic, believers are ecstatic
You see the way they cling, the cold metallic sting
And I'm living in a coma for Donna de Varona
The harness made of hopes, the lovers on the ropes
Earth-shaking, rattle-snaking
Kiwis are a-home baking
Minds wide open, truly

this is relatable when you’re a teen and you find old music where the band no longer makes music or whatever you want to be part and pretend you were there to listen to it

I just realized this is sophie thatcher
I love this show
YOU GET ME
wasn’t she the goth kid with light hair? haven’t watched that show in a while but i thought she looked like her!
OH MY GOD THISSSS
Her loving Pavement and inserting herself into their music videos is like how new, young fans in real life have used the internet to engage with their music and tried to experience today what a previous generation experienced when this music was first released
Great observation
My now-grown kid didn't need the internet to find Pavement. He grew up hearing and loving them. Whenever we were somewhere with a jukebox that had their songs I gave him the money to play it and then we'd all bask in everybody's positive vibe. Etc. He also plays guitar and knows tons of their songs. Raised right. (I own their first EP and he is constantly trying to get me to give it to him. Nyet.)
And yet it's still a unique, subjective experience. Astonishing.
You said "inserting" Lol
Ha yea, it’s a sendup of all their original videos 😂
The lyrics of this song are incredible, I have no idea how you could be so creative in all the different meanings, I’ve learnt something today.
I didn't understand one bit😭😭😭 but it sounds great
@@limeanimation they’re all representatives. Eg: “I won’t kill your parents and roast them on a spit” (inpalement) (I think I spelt that wrong) and “don’t you try to etch it or permanently sketch it “engravement” there’s a lot more

No one will ever know why this is Pavement’s top Spotify song, but no Pavement fan will ever care because Pavement fans know that every song is awesome. Very much looking forward to watching this and seeing the boys in Leeds later this year.
TRUTH!!!
Tik Tok made this song famous for whatever reason it caught on with Gen Z lol
I got a few people HOOKED on Pavement from this song.
Very well said

I like it. It’s a good representation of what it’s like to be a fan of a now older band, put your hopes in them, and feel like they’re just for you.
THeir music will always be timeless!
They kinda sound like Marcy Playground
@@JackieDaytona1 Marcy Playground was inspired by them, as was one in 3 90s bands you like!
do you mean like LED ZEPPELIN?
thats not real.
This song saved my life, i was with my dad playing my guitar while he was watching the tv and then youtube recomended the tutorial to play this song and then my dad was "oh that is really good, whats the band?" Then we talked about this song and how much it means to me and he was like "holy shit.." because he knows the context and help me when i was in a hole without any light, so while he could be there for me phisicaly, only in phone calls (i study filmmaking in other city so i can see him in the weekends when i can go to his house) i listened to this song and the dsrknes turns to grey, obviously he did his best bit when he couldn't for geographic reasons, this song was a comfort alternative, now he knows the stoey behind this song and my love for it, theb i star to play it and he was like, "keep it going son, you play it perfect"
I just realized my dad used to play this in the car and that's why it was so familiar.
this music video is actually really sick, love how it calls back to every other pavement music video. that rules. this is the best way to do this.
i know for obvious reasons they cant have malkmus or anyone else in it but it still feels weird
@@flyingpig5622 what is the reason if you dont mind my asking?
@@virreyumi3546 The band isn't really together any more, although I know they are doing a tour later this year, but they all went their separate ways

Don’t think Pavement fan base was this big back in the 90s but it’s cool to see how their music has aged like fine wine👌
It aged like cheese - the same as yer mum.
Only saw them twice in the 90's but both shows were sold out. They were about as popular as you could be getting no radio or MTV play.
Folk Implosion's momentary explosion with Natural One helped, and Shady Lane sure didn't hurt.
Definitely nice to meet fellow fans 😅
They we definitely popular in the 90s but not mainstream

I ❤ this!!! Amazing
Saw them live in Galway...amazing.
I'm a fan of Sophie from Yellowjackets and found this, such a good song
I love the fact that you guys are releasing content in 2022 and I really hope we get some new music soon. Thank you!!
You better harness those hopes.
yeah i don’t think Steve would let a new pavement album happen, for good reason imo. i think he recognizes the legacy of the band and wants to leave the discography how it is, not taint it with a new record that people aren’t as happy with. some people may even think terror twilight was that already.
plus Steve’s solo career is pretty good/great so at least we have that.
@SteadyRythms Dinosaur Jr. pulled it off, and I think Pavement could do it, too. You’re not wrong, but I think his solo career being decent might point to a new album being even more feasible.
Regardless, I wish they’d at least do something like what Ween does: tour more often than once every ten years.
@@TryNSave ehh steve already reiterated plenty of times that he wants the legacy of pavement to stay as it is. and it actually resonates pretty well because the band is still highly regarded with an unmatched discography (the previous reissues prove to be a wonderful journey too). this terror twilight reissue is already a miracle for longtime and newer fans alike; everyone is well-aware that this was treated more like a malk pre-solo effort than a pavement one. if you’d like to hear something new from them, then i suggest checking out the jicks (they are relatively active; their 2011 album mirror traffic is more in the vein of wowee zowee imo but i was blown away by sparkle hard, their LP in 2018) and the preston school of industry
@@steadyrhythms9571 grandaddy (a band i mentally always put in the same kind of category) had a reunion album and it was really good. pavement could definitely do the same if they wanted

@@tomallen5837 bruh what
It's better than enslavement. Please don't kill my parents.
In the 90s in the UK (maybe elsewhere I don't know) it was common for record companies to put out 2 versions of a single with different b-sides so fans would buy both and it would chart higher. The version of 'Carrot Rope' I bought had this and a song called 'Roll With the Wind'. It was actually the first Pavement record I bought. I was late to the party but I was only 15 and living in a small English town and there wasn't a lot of places to discover alternative stuff. Saw them on the Jo Whiley show on Channel 4 and MTV2 and read about them in Select magazine.
Subsequently bought Terror Twilight (which I love, pavement snobs who slag it can f**k off) and worked my way back through their albums. Was gutted that they broke up months after I discovered them, but been listening to them and solo Malkmus ever since. Going to see them with my partner later this year and can't wait.
I love Terror Twilight, it was my first Pavement record I bought, Cream Of Gold is probably my favourite from a very good bunch :)
This is awesome!!!!!

Pavement is great their music is so timeless. Their lyrics and just overall energy is just perfect

Every time I listen to it I hear something else
This video is absolutely charming for us gen X fans to see the material being treated so appropriately by the youth. Pavement videos always had a dont give a fuck aesthetic plus high concept quality that actually translates directly into the tiktok generation even if they probably arent cited as a direct influence very often. And this video perfectly carries that tradition on while bringing it into the modern world, so clever, so pavement.
