I'm a 5th gen. Texan. My great, great grandfather immigrated to the Texas hill country in 1854 from Prussia. He would become an attorney & a state Representative. I grew up in "Memorial" on the west side of Houston, i.e., in the piney woods of Texas. I need trees. Upon visiting Idaho I stipulated that for me to agree to move to Idaho, we would have to find somewhere north of Horseshoe Bend. I have now been a resident of Garden Valley, Idaho (Pop: 275) for 25 yrs. I could list a ton of reasons to live in Idaho but I would rather tell you why not! For whatever reason you are moving out of your state, swear on a Bible that you will not try to change Idaho. We are doing just fine & like Idaho the way it is. People moving to Texas from California & the N.E. & then changing things is why I had to leave Texas. I'll tell you a little secret, Garden Valley doesn't even have a police dept. & we don't need one! If you know what I mean.

Thanks for watching and commenting! Having spent so much time living in both it’s very interesting to hear your perspective! And Garden Valley is heaven. We camp in various areas up there every summer and absolutely love it.

I’ve been in Texas my whole life (42) years and I want to come visit Idaho so bad. I hate Texas summers with the 24 hour a day heat and humidity. Plus the amount of people here has got crazy .

Thanks for the comment! I love Texas but yes, the growth that ya’ll have experienced makes Idaho’s growth look insignificant! If you ever come visit and want a tour, let us know!🙂

I am from Idaho, (go Borah).
I was stationed in Texas, liked it here, liked the attitude of the people. Not a fan of cold weather.
The job situation in Idaho is very fluid, feast or famine. Even in the bad times I could find work.
Been living in Texas for forty years

On the other hand, Idaho was a great place to grow up. The variety of outdoor recreation opportunities was better in Idaho.
I have friends who pay thousands of dollars to go on vacation and do the things we used to do with a cooler of groceries and a tank of gas.

Born and bred Texan.... ONE, summers are HELL!!! Heat + humidity is unbearable at times!! I'm looking at this video because I can't handle it any more! I'm retiring in either Idaho or Wyoming. TWO, property taxes are a KILLER. For approx a $400K house, it's over $7000!!!! Don't fall for the "no state income tax" hype. They'll get you on the back end!

Thank you for watching and the comment. And WOW, I knew property taxes were significantly higher in TX than ID - but I I didn't realize that they were that much higher! If you decide to come check out Idaho, let us know, we would love to meet up with you and tour you all around. 🙂

I still trip out on the homeowners exemption in Idaho. I filed for mine in California and the exemption here is $7,000.. No that isn't a typo.

If you like suffocating heat, drought, traffic jams, highway traffic deaths, high insurance rates, limited Hospital access, vehicle emission control and vehicle inspections, high priced homes and property tax, you'll love it, otherwise Oklahoma might be a better fit
