    Hi Marcie, I like your presentation. Any thoughts about infrastructure in Boise, including sewage system, construction, noise, air pollution, trash accumulation, etc.? Do you have videos zeroing in on the needs of the over 65 demographic? In terms of crime, how do things compare with Montana relating drug addiction, the cartels spreading Fentanyl? How about the problems with homelessness?

      Thanks for watching and I appreciate the questions!
      The city of Boise is currently playing a bit of catch up from the boom it experienced. Thankfully the biggest issue is arguably roads (you will see detours and road construction pretty much wherever you go). Our roads just really weren’t prepared. And then in regard to trash accumulation, sewage and air pollution the city really remains incredibly clean and well-maintained. Time after time, as we tour people through the valley, they comment on how incredibly clean Boise and its surrounding Treasure Valley is. This is helped by the fact that our homeless population is very low and the facilities and resources available to those who find themselves in such situations are dialed. Unfortunately, just like the rest of the country, we have seen an uptick in drug busts and addiction rates. That said, that uptick has been relatively minimal (compared to Montana or to the national level). And, unlike some of our neighboring states, such as Oregon, Idaho maintains a ZERO tolerance policy (marijuana isn’t legal here, let alone any hard drugs). And I would be SHOCKED if that changed anytime soon.
      And then last, unfortunately I don’t currently have any additional videos directed at my 65+ viewers to direct you to. if there are topics you would like to see covered, please let me know, and I would be happy to film a video covering them in the future. Appreciate the views & comments!🙂

      @@Livinginboiseidaho-candid Nice reply. For retirees over 65, I guess subjects would be medical care, health insurance options connected to Medicare, quiet neighborhoods closest to amenities and conveniences, recreational and other activities relevant to older folks, discounts for seniors, snowbirding in warmer climates during the winter.

    I didn't hear about this in the video but just to add, Idaho has a food tax on all food you buy. Ridiculous, yes, but maybe it'll get repealed one day.

I mentioned our sales tax VERY briefly but should have made that more clear. Paying 6% on groceries does seem a bit ridiculous - and certainly is important for people to know! Thank you! 🙂

    Of course issues related to retirees are things like mobility in the winter, good sidewalks, elevators and ramps in lieu of stairs, efficiency of food and groceries delivery services, Uber/Lyft, medical emergency transportation including van services and disability accessibility, etc. Unfortunately most TH-camrs on most cities anywhere NEVER mention most of these subjects. One will find most TH-camrs on most cities are focused on the under 50 demographic.

    Pretty informative video. One of the better ones I’ve seen. Are there model homes to tour at each new community like in Florida and if so do they try to have a visitor “sign in” and essentially forfeit rights to have your own realtor later?

    • @Livinginboiseidaho-candid
      @Livinginboiseidaho-candid  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment!The majority of new communities across the Treasure Valley have model homes. And yep - if you go into one without your own agent present, the vast majority of their sales teams will try (and sometimes quite incessantly) to get you to work directly with them. We cringe every time we hear from someone who “worked directly with the builders team”… So, basically you got hosed. 🙈

    Most people hit that 5.8% income tax rate easily. The 6% sales tax, which includes food, is also substantial. Property tax factors in, as well. I wouldnt say ID taxes are high but one probably would not move there simply to save on taxes, there would have to be additional factors. Low crime, few drug addicts, and non-woke politics are big drivers to ID, too.

      Our hearts break for long-term residents in Montana, Oregon, Washington and California. Such a complete (and UNNECESSARY) mess!
      Thankfully, here in Idaho, we haven’t seen it anywhere to the level that those states have (mainly because we have a ZERO tolerance for it)… that all said, we have (unfortunately) seen cases tick up here as well. Just know that Idaho, being an incredibly RED state, will be one of the very LAST states EVER to legalize any of that ridiculousness.

    WY won out over ID during our CA escape because of taxes. WY has no income tax and a 4% sales tax on non-food items. Once this difference became apparent and retirement drew closer, we sold the Island Park property we had been holding and bought in Cody.

    How is that 401k income taxed exactly? If I withdraw 20K from lets say a Roth IRA account; is the entire 20k taxed at 5.8% or is it just the part of the 20K that actually has increased since I deposited it?

      @@Livinginboiseidaho-candid Cool, thanks. Will be interesting if the Roth which was taxed by feds gets fully taxed by the state. If it doesn't is regular 401k taxed more than Roth by the state.

    • @Livinginboiseidaho-candid
      @Livinginboiseidaho-candid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for patience, here is what we found out.
      Since all your investments in a Roth IRA are after-tax, your withdrawals are *almost always* tax-free. That said, the best way to withdraw (to allow earnings & contributions to be completely tax-free) is to pull what they call “qualified distributions”. To have a qualified distribution, here are the conditions:
      1. At least five years have passed since the first year a Roth IRA contribution was made or, in the case of a conversion since the conversion occurred and
      2. At least one of these additional conditions is met:
      • The owner is age 59 1/2.
      • The owner is disabled.
      • The owner has died (distribution is to estate or heir).
      • Withdrawal is for a first-time home that you build, rebuild, or buy (lifetime limit up to $10,000).
      Hope this helps!

    • @MrRmeadows
      @MrRmeadows 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Livinginboiseidaho-candid Thank you for clearing that up. I have both Roth and Traditional accounts. Kind of a 2 part answer. But I think I know the answer to 2nd part. Most likely they tax the entire amount withdrawn from Traditional account. Since those would have never been taxed before.
