I was a little worried about my timing, moving here in mid-January as an Arizona boy, but I'm glad I did. It's kind of like an initiation/right of passage 😊

How would you compare the winter weather with Alberta? What about smoke from forest fires like in Canada and air pollution in the valley? How much is air conditioning needed in Boise in the summer? Is the climate like Calgary Alberta?

I’m not personally familiar with Alberta. That said, it’s my understanding that winters here in Boise (and its surrounding Treasure Valley) tend to be quite a bit milder comparatively. Our winters here usually tend to surprise people. Oftentimes, it seems that people think our winters are going to be incredibly harsh, but that’s really not the case.
Throughout the winter, our daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-30s to mid-40s Fahrenheit (1-7 degrees Celsius), although occasional cold snaps can bring temperatures below freezing. On an annual basis, we typically get about 20 inches (50 cm) of snow per year, spread out over several snow storms. And occasionally we experience heavier winter storms - but they really aren’t all that frequent.

@@Livinginboiseidaho-candid So you miss the Arctic vortex down to 35 below zero with the wind chill. Here in Calgary we had it for a week, then it went up to the 40s. Then down again to 0 . This weekend back to the spring weather in the 30s and 40s. But since my wife and I are retired and have dual citizenship I feel more and more tempted to check out Boise. We migrated from NYC and had enough of that. If this Trudeau Woke madness continues after another election, with plans for digital IDs, and currencies, and insane attacks on the oil industry the best choice will be independence for Alberta. Heck, maybe then together with Idaho, Wyoming and Montana! People can't take it anymore. I'm not ready yet to escape to Paraguay or Vietnam!

@@Livinginboiseidaho-candid The population of Boise is very appealing to anyone escaping NYC. It is the same as Saskatoon but with milder weather and not so windy!

@@Livinginboiseidaho-candid If the normal temps without El Niño is 30s and 40s that's really glorious....with only a quarter of a million people in Boise and good medical services for us retired folks. Extremely appealing.

@@Livinginboiseidaho-candid If the temperature is in the 30s and 40s then the snow must melt quick enough even if it gets slushy and muddy. ..not bad at all..... the smoke from the fires has been annoying for a few summers because of the drought conditions. Life can never be perfect....
