    As a service advisor, I would tell folks to go with a gas option every time unless they are towing super heavy and often. Modern diesels are not only significantly more expensive to get into, they are significantly more expensive to maintain, and repair. They also have more maintenance requirements associated with their inherent complex emissions systems, and have more instances of component failures. If a turbo grenades, or a fuel system gets contaminated with high pressure pump guts, it's $12,000-$18,000 to repair. These are also long repairs that exceed 30 flag hours to complete, so even -if- the parts are available, it will be most of a week to repair and test, plus programming, as most of these components integrate with the PCM on a serial basis and aren't plug and play. Meanwhile, you may spend $1200 on a tune up at 100,000 miles for the 7.3. The average oil change is also only $80 on the 7.3L vs $180 for the Powerstroke, and that doesn't include the extra $200-$300 for fuel filter replacement every other oil change, nor the cost of DEF. Even if Diesel fuel cost the same as gasoline, you would never recoup the additional costs, even if you drove it a million miles (which you won't, as those massive repair bills usually cause folks to buy new $80,000 trucks). So again, if you are buying one of these trucks, and especially a single rear wheel unit, 90% should buy the gas option. Your fiscal self will thank you.

      @@Anonymous-jj9yu The old 7.3 powerstroke was a great engine, but due to it being a dead platform for 20 years, parts availability, especially for soft parts like hoses, belts and harnesses, is becoming more rare. Not so bad for belts specifically, because you can just swing down to autozone or Orellys for those (as long as you know which alternator option you have). At this point, getting an Excursion is less like buying a used vehicle, and more like restoring a classic.

      Very well said and very accurate I had a 17 6.7 for 2 weeks I returned it to CarMax I sold an 06 F350 6.0 I shouldn't have. I ended up with another 06 F350 6.0 not as nice as my original one a 2000 7.3 6 speed and a 2015 6.2 gas I can still fix and get parts for all of these trucks and do the repairs myself in my shop

      Then you always get those guys that say “but but but diesel gets better fuel mileage”. At $10-12k up front plus fuel that’s $1 per gallon more expensive you’re not saving money by getting marginally better fuel economy.

      i totally agree with you i had diesels for the last 25 years and driven are company vehicles i just bought 2024 f350 7.3 gas love it will not go back to diesels all the very costly repairs now you they want you to use fuel additives, plus urea,fuel filters,oil and a dollar or more per gallon you better be able to afford to keep under warranty or you will go broke

    17 mpg on mixed roads -- not too bad. My F150 gets ~23mpg when I say around 60 on rural highways. Just ordered a F250/Tremor/Lariat/Godzilla so hoping I can do the same..... Great video. Thx.

      17 MPG is super impressive for a massive gasser with all-terrains and a 4.30 rear! I wonder what this will return swapped into an F-150 or a Mustang. I'm sure you could get some extra MPGs in those.

    Changing the oil in the 7.3 is literally one of the easiest quickest oil changes I’ve ever down.

    My 2023 f250 tremor, the fuel economy is 16L/100km at highway. 18-19L/100km at city. It is very comfortable and drive smoothly.

    About the same mpg as my 2000 Ford Excursion with a V10.
    Granted I’m not running 35’s, but it’s paid for.

    I turn off lane keep assist also. My wife’s suburban damn near crashed one day. There was a construction zone up the road and when I entered it the car was following the lines not seeing the construction obstacles and when I went to follow the cones it was trying to jerk me into the wall and it took serious input to override it.

    Picked one up and drove from KC to NC, averaged 13.8 mpg going mostly 68-75 mph. The 7.3's are rarer than the diesel and rarer yet in a Tremor Lariat. I made full use of the adaptive cruise control with lane centering and recv'd the hand on steering wheel warning many times, but not enough for me not to use it.

    I also keep mine off, while in the right lane the system wants to steer the truck to the off ramp so I have to fight it to stay on the road. It works ok if your not in the lane closest to the off ramps. Left and middle lane driving is ok but I still keep it off.

    I have a 22 f350 Godzilla, I drive a lot, so it already has over 50k miles. great truck, I get around 15 city and 16 highway. Guys out there looking to buy a truck, listen to me. Unless you're towing over 20k everyday, you do NOT, I repeat NOT need a diesel. No way in hell you can justify paying 13K extra upfront for the diesel option and then all the problems you will have from the emission system and paying more for fuel and paying more for services. I owned diesels all my life, trust me, I love diesels, the problem is Modern. diesiels are not what we grew up knowing and loving. The epa has ruined them foreever. it breaks my heart when I see people with a high out put diesel towing 4k pounds and all they have to tow. it's like going off roading with an M1 Abrams tank, so much power and nothing to do with it. Pick any of the big three gas engines (7.3 Godzilla)(6.4 hemi) or (6.6 from GMC/Chevy) any of these three Will do 99% of the towing out there with a lot less upfront and a lot less on maintenance and far more reliable than modern diesels.

    While HDs are not rated for MPG/literPer100, they should be. Does not mean the EPA should over regulate, but more info for the consumer is better than nothing. And nothing is what we get with HD class trucks.

      They haven't changed in fuel economy in over 30 years LOL....my 88 F250 with the 460 V8 gets the same fuel economy, but only 3 gears rather than 10. They were never built to be fuel efficient and if that's what you think you are getting by buying an HD truck you are gonna very quickly regret your buying decision LOL.
      Leave the EPA out of it period.

      @@wildbill23c This is why I bought an F150 with HDPP. I do want lower operating costs but when I need the power, I'll pay with lower MPG. Still have a payload of nearly 2800lbs with a 4x4 RCLB.
      MPG is just about operating cost for a given job. leaving this unmeasured just allows automakers to hide this info from the consumer.

    My Toyota has lane keep assist, works pretty good in daylight in good weather, usually turn it off when the lines are hard to see. I can take my hands of the wheel for 10 seconds before I get a warning, overall I like the system, use it as much as possible.

    I have to disagree with on the 4.30 not helping fuel economy. You get more torque multiplication, so less load on the engine for the same acceleration and with the 10 speed and big tires, the rpm is still low enough that taller gearing won't make much difference. Plus. As you load it up, it will still feel strong and relaxed and see more of a difference in fuel economy.

      The 4.30 will ever help fuel economy. The overdrive ratios in the 10 speeds high gears are what will affect that. “Feeling strong and relaxed” doesn’t change fuel economy.

      @garysarratt1 on a 6 speed it would have an impact changing axle ratios, but with 10 speeds, it might be a 1% difference at higher speeds, over 75 mph.

      4.30 suffers more friction losses than taller ratio will.. The only way that would be overcome is if the trans doesn’t have a good ratio available for the load and speed being driven. And considering these trucks have 10 forward ratios it seems likely a good ratio is always available. Modern engines are tuned to be happy lugging.

      I agree with you. The only place the 4.30 gearing might effect gas mileage more would be at really high highway speeds, 80-85 mph. But towing, city driving, and 50-60 mph, the 4.30 might actually be a benefit since the lower gears make tootaling around completely effortless for the engine. I really wish more dealerships would order more of the non tremor trucks with 4.30 gears since a lot of guys might want to go to 35 inch tires. Especially since the 33 and 34 inch stock tires look to small and kind of ugly on the new body styles. They need 35's just to look right in my opinion.

    My new Gladiator Willys has none of the nanny bells and whistles and I LOVE IT!
    My Cherokee was constantly beeping and hitting the brakes in reverse for no reason.
    Every time the Cherokee did a nanny thing I had to look around in the menu to turn it off

      Just bought a Gladiator too and it is very refreshing to get a vehicle with less nanny bells and whistles than my older truck. Not that my Ram 1500 was bad about that stuff, but the Gladiator is better and so much better than my brother's Mercedes SUV I rode in a bit over Christmas.

    I factory ordered a 2021 platinum f350 7.3 with the tow package, while towing my bumper tow toy hauler loaded up (11, 000 lbs) I couldn’t get over 6 mpg! The transmission failed at 16,000miles and with no replacement available at the time my ford dealer bought it back to my relief.

      Those 2020 and 2021's had serious issues. The 2022's were a bit better, and the 2023's quite a bit better. 2024s are too new but they seem to be relatively solid so far (some people have had them since November/December and have probably put 40k+ miles on some by now).
      Glad you were able to get out from under it.

      The transmission issue sucks but I guess I don’t get the exclamation about the fuel mileage. I get like 9mpg with my f-150 with the 5.0 towing a 26 foot travel trailer that’s like 6k pounds. A much heavier and larger profile trailer plus a much heavier truck 6 sounds about right.

    I have a 2024 XLT super cab shortbed with the 7.3 gas engine. I drive 65-70 mph and I’m averaging 15.4 mpg so far in the first 4000 miles of owning it. The 10 speed transmission in 10th at 65 mph is only 1500 rpm. So it’s barely above idle. I have the 3.73 ratio rear end.

    I’ve got a tremor with the 7.3 as well, 2020 though and average around 13.5mpg. While the mpg in the 7.3 will always be lower than that of the 6:7, what people fail to talk about is cost/mile. I think doing that and factoring in the extra $10k for the 6.7, it’s VERY hard to justify the diesel.

    Not far off from what my 2024 xlt non tremor 7.3 with 3.73 gets….. I think I get about 14.5-15.5 mpg in the same scenario…. I only tow heavy 6-8 times a year with a total of 1500-2000 miles…. So diesel was not needed in my case. Great video.

    Great point on the lane keeping systems - I bought a new vehicle last April and keep all lane control / assistive driving systems turned off because the constant messages are annoying.

    That's really impressive. My old 08 GMC pretty much gets that for fuel mileage and its 2000lbs lighter, on 33's with 3.73's and has less power overall. Crazy that they can get that out of a lifted 3/4 ton 4wd truck. Used to be that you were lucky to get 24l/100km or 10mpg with something like that.

      Yup, and it's probably more powerful than your 08 too.😂 This is the power of computer simulation and iterative design on pretty much every component of this engine. It is truly amazing that a simple cast iron, pushrod, port injected engine without cylinder deactivation can get such numbers with that. I want to swap it i to something so badly.😅

    I normally have lane keep assist on when on long drives. It helps keep the drive smoother. But on short drives around town normally it's not used.

    Not bad numbers for a gas HD with 35’s! My 2017 Colorado ZR2 with the gas engine had similar numbers, and couldn’t do the towing and hauling that this truck can!

    My tundra doesn’t have lane keep, but my 2024 Kia carnival does. I only received the hands on wheel message once. I use it often in conjunction with adaptive cruise control.

    I have a 23 F250 King Ranch. Fuel economy in town is about 13 MPG in town. Up to 17 MPG on highway avg. 75 Mph.
    I don’t use the lane system often.

    2024 F250 Lariat with 7.3, 18" wheels, and 3.73 rear end. I average 14.2 mpg commuting 35 miles to and from Houston Tx, and 8.2 mpg when towing a 5800 lb travel trailer cross country.

    This is the only Ford that is worthwhile to buy. Not Ecoboost, not Hybrid and not EV. True massive gasoline engine which will last decades or close to a lifetime. A gem…Toyota!!! Bring back V8s if not you are going to lose market share.

    I prefer to drive without the lane assist. However. I LOVE ghe cruise Control option that stays with the flow of traffic. I have less than 2000 miles and I love this truck

    Lane keep assist is exactly that. It isn't autonomous driving. It's meant to keep you in the lanes if you happen to get distracted. It's not blue Cruze or super cruise

    I turn off the lane keep also. I'm betting that you won't be able to shut it off in the near future. More regulations coming down the pipe mandating crap like that.

      Not mandated. Never has been and, frankly, I don’t see any sort of automated steering or steering correction being mandated in the next few decades. just my view.

    A 4.30 axle in the Tremor is not too far off. Standard Tire is 275/65R18 with 3.73 axles. Take a axle ratio calculator for the larger tire of 285/75R18 and it comes to a ratio of 4.07 is needed to be equivalent. I would take it if I was towing with that truck.

    I own 2020 f350xl 7.3 with 4.30 gear. I get 12.5 with mixed but mostly highway driving at 70-80 mph. Put smaller chin spoiler on and lost 0.1 mpg on average 12.6-12.5mpg.

    I get about 13 with my 2001 8.1 gmc. 2500 had crew 8 ft box about 7k pounds. I use fuel additive I think it adds 1-2 mpg

    Almost 75k miles on my Carli 3" level F250 w 37's. We love this 7.3 with 3:55 gears and get just about the same or slightly better than what you got. Im thinking the gearing is a trade off for the tires. I also changed my running boards, front valance and wheel lip molding from a Tremor. I also have dual exhaust and a 5star tune that I mainly keep in the 87 octane daily drive/light tow tune. 2025 I will get the same truck. Been extremely reliable and she pulls my skid steer and 17k boat.

    I can tell you the answer. I have a 24 tremor lariat 7.3. Best I’ve seen on eco mode on the hi-way is 13mpg. Normal non towing average is 11.5. Average on a tank including hauling a 14k lb dump trailer around was 10mpg. Not bad for what I need. I replaced a ram 1500 that was giving me 15-16mpg and could never do what the 250 tremor can.

    I absolutely turn the lane keep off, when it jerks you back in the lane it shocking and makes you want to yank the wheel the other way......also, thanks for this video, other than the color this is the exact truck I want to get, including the tan interior.

    The fuel economy isn't much worse than my F-150 Tremor. With the V6TT, I am getting 15 MPG for mostly local driving.

    I have almost the same truck except it's a F350 6.7 diesel the tires are really noisy when I'm ready to replace them I'm going replace them B FGoodric all terrain K0s I use the lane warning option only I don't use any of the other BS I hate the auto diming option

    It’s funny how we argue gas vs diesel, payload and towing today. When I was growing up in the 80’s & 90’s, my dad drove trucks from the 70’s. Half ton Silverado, 3/4 ton ford camper special, plus others, same heavy caveman camper went into the bed, same boat was pulled behind it. Those underpowered gas V-8’s just went. No matter how much was loaded into it! I don’t even know if there was a sticker saying how much payload or towing they could handle!! Of course gas was under a buck a gallon, so we didn’t care about mpg.

    I have the Lariat without the Tremor which gets 14+ local suburban driving on the highway from NY to TN I get better than 17 not too bad believe Diesel doesn’t get a whole lot better.

    My 2024 3500 L5P with lane departure warning is good. It makes the seat vibrate on the side I'm getting too close to. No pop-up on the dashboard or windshield. Super Cruise is included in the High Country package according to the sales person. I declined.
    Gas mileage. My 2015 LML six-speed auto with a tune would get 2-3 MPG better fuel mileage than this L5P ten-speed. I'm surprised!

    14mpg, about the same as what my 88 F250 with the 460 V8 would get, with less than 1/2 the gears LOL. They're work trucks, they're built to haul and tow not to be fuel efficient LOL. I get around 14-15mpg with my 99 F250 with the V10 out on the highway, but around 10-11mpg in town LOL. So...my 87 Ford Ranger is my daily driver, it gets around 19-20mpg in town and 22-24mpg highway.
    That 4.30 gear ratio is great for towing, not so great for cruising though LOL. My 88 F250 if I remember right has the 4.10 or 4.30 gears too...my 99 F250 has the 3.73 gears.

    My 2018 F150 3.5 ecoboost gets between 15-17l per 100 km´s in the winter with mixed driving when I have it in a mix of rear, 4 auto and 4wd depending on weather.
    In the summer on smoother tires and rear wheel drive 99% of the time, with very conservative driving (max speed here is 90kmh) I manage to keep it just over 14 liters per 100km.
    That engine is supposed to be fuel saving.. its the whole point of the turdnugget ecoboost twin turbo thing...
    So for a engine thats a v8 and 7.3l, I dont feel like its really all that thirsty in comparison :P

    14.2 MPG is the best my 2022 7.3 Lariat Tremor got and averages around 12.4 smile’s per gallon.

      That’s horrible mileage. Our 2019 Yukon XL returns 20 to 21 in the V8 mode, with the 4 cylinder mode locked out. Will tow 7k.

    The truck has 4.10 gears, bad for fuel efficiency, but there’s a 10 speed automatic, with several overdrive ratios I’m guessing, what are the revs at highway speed?

    My old F150 RC with a 6 cylinder/5spd only gets 14mpg on the highway....And i can only tow around 6k pounds

    How are you pulling those MPGs?! I have a 24 250 Platinum Tremor and I'm lucky if I'm hitting 12.5 mpg with eco mode and highway/back road driving.

    Currently have a Gen 1 6.2 V8 Raptor and I'm looking to upgrade to a 2024 Gen 3 Raptor or go for an F250 as I'll be towing a Bruder trailer and hauling a couple KTM 300s in the back as I overland all over north and central america

    It gets similar gas mileage to my stock 2021 Tundra lol. It's really good for a 7.3L but the power also seems low for the displacement?

    I actually really like these trucks as a Toyota fan. Toyota doesn’t make them so it’s no biggie haha . I like the 7.3 and the GM 6.6 although it’s less powerful.
    I briefly entertained the thought of getting one in the future just simply for the heavier duty frame payload and towing capacity over my 5.7 Tundra. ….but after really looking it over I don’t tow above 8-10k and it really makes me realize how solid the old second gen tundras are . Even outdated it still makes 401ft lb at 3600 rpm which is around 400 rpm less than the 7.3s 475ft lb I believe . And I get around 16 mpg in the summer . Real world more guys than not , I’m seeing 11-13mpg with a few exceptions here and there on the 7.3.
    I still like them , but this is my 2nd 5.7 Tundra and if you know how to tow they are beasts .
    5000lb +…simply tow/haul S5.

    My f250 with 6.8 in economy mode at 61 mph I can get 18 mpg and at 71 mph I get 16mpg going from ga to Nc

    I don't think in the HD sector that the fuel figure is too significant compared to range. How far can it go with a heavy load or towing. I don't think that there are many HD owners who buy these trucks to cruise around empty. Irrespective of trim levels and luxuries, they are work trucks. Put the HDs to work and talk about range!

    I find that average mpg amazing for such a large heavy duty truck, I owned a 2000 Nissan 3.3 V6 manual 4x4 crew cab that got about 17mpg no matter what kind of tire or driving style.
    Kudos to Ford and the other truck manufacturers for building some amazing vehicles.

      Actually it isn't that great honestly...in over 30 years they haven't gotten any better fuel economy. It gets the same fuel economy as my 88 F250 with the 460 V8, and C6 automatic transmission....which is a 3 speed transmission. The only thing that's changed is the quality has gotten worse with all the electronic nannies they have put into today's vehicles.

    What is the point of that engine? Barely more HP and less torque than the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Also, fully agree about the lanekeep. I just bought a new F 150 and it didnt have it and Im not too disappointed. Why not just have the wheel have a touch sensor so it knows youre touching it without having to jerk the wheel every 20 seconds.

    The auto driving on my 21’ Honda civic is awesome don’t have issues with it telling me to grab the wheel. I put my water bottle in between the wheel and it goes into full Tesla self driving cause it thinks my water bottle is my hand, but let’s not say I do that 😂

    I would have thought it would do better that. 6.8L V10 with 3.73 gears is about the same mpg. Im sure your truck is alot nicer though.

    It's a real shame that warnings pop up, there should just be one warning when you start and that is it, the whole purpose is for the cpu to take over, why have to fight what it is doing? If anything input from the driver should set the cpu to shut off!

      I had a rental Nissan Maxima with collision avoidance while my old F150 with no driver aids was in the shop. In the carpool lane it had 3 false positives hitting the brakes pretty hard. I was doing highway speeds while the regular lanes were 20-30mph. Scared the hell out of me.

    The 7.3 is totally obsolete since the Powerboost came out. Ford has got to offer that in the SuperDuty....quick!

    My 20 F350 Power stroke with 4 inch lift and 37s averages 17 mpg and I can spin tires from a light with out any break boosting...hauling 10 k I see 11 mpg regularly and unloaded highway I've avraged over 21 mpg (rare occasions I'm being a good boy)... And before you jump my case, my speedo was recalibrated... (80 on dash = 81 GPS) and I average my mpg pump to pump... Both my father in law and brother in law have newer (22&23) Godzilla f350s crew cab long beds like mine and I laugh every time I'm in them. listening to these engines scream to make less than half my powerstrokes torque and not going nowhere. I'll pay the extra money and have a smile on my face everytime I'm building boost.

    So what is the point of assisted steering if you can not give your arms a rest on a long drive?
    It instead seems to be designed to help the aim of those drivers who can't actually drive between the lines.

      It’s designed so FMC can say “we have x”, like GM, and then try to make it work okay. I may be fine in a year or two.

    We have a 21 RAV4 and the lane keep is off. We also have a 24 Mazda 3 and we cant turn it off and it is a pain.
