    I watch this every few years, and every time, I am struck by how beautiful the first-gen Aston Martin DB9 was. It is clean in a way we seem to have forgotten how to create, in this era of over-styled, overly-complex vehicles. And of course, Clarkson's narration is superb.

    • @TotallyNotASpy1

      Wholeheartedly agreed. Car design is so fixated in being absolutely full of drama, aggressive lines, angry or mean looking faces and meaningless edges all over the place now. This DB9 looks stunningly elegant, refined, soft and clean in a way modern cars will just never be.
      Now everything is reduced to look like a stupid SUV or a Crossover that resembles a frowning pig on wheels more than a car.

    Someone told me why I cared that Jeremy was on Forza. This is why, because he reminds us of those good times, the old times, where v12s triumphed the hearts of the old and young generations. Today, this trailer is more relevant than ever. With electric cars taking over, the passion involved in making and driving cars is fading thick and fast. Don't get me wrong, electric cars will be interesting, especially those that focus on driving and performance, but as they say, they 'ent what they used to be.
    I'd love to imagine a future where classic fuel powered cars can live in harmony with modern and efficient electric cars, but I somehow doubt such a vision will be achievable, unless we find an ingenious way of keeping combustion engines running without causing pollution. Hydrogen combustion is one possibility, but that in itself presents all kinds of problems.
    It is, however, heartwarming to know that, even when internal combustion makes its last breath and passes on, we will at least be able to retreat to the virtual world and continue to drive our loud, fire spitting machines forever more.
    I was born a petrol head, and one way or another, I will die a petrol head.

      Flibble Wally your right very right just look at a cars interior even, sure it has all kinds of fancy BS but it feels cheap it doesent feel like home or like it's your car it feels like what auto makers have been shoving in our minds for years and that it's just meant for point A to point B and cars do feel like that now theres nothing special about them

    • @chev555
      @chev555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Well we may not be done for yet, companies are already working kn sustainable synthetic gasoline that is used by combining either natural or man made hydrogen and carbon from the atmosphere, and in the end it makes a fuel that is much more potent than gasoline ever was. And hell, on top of that we have only scratched the tip of the iceberg with hydrogen combustion engines. So don't guve up hope yet, I'm sure someone will have a solution if times are ever that desperate for the combustion engine, of course probably only for the people who really want it though.

    • @SPAZTIK_OFFICIAL
      @SPAZTIK_OFFICIAL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes same here it just pains me to know that internal combustion engines are dying and the electric vehicles are taking over soon after we won’t be able to drive with our hands and feet because they will drive themselves and it might even become illegal to manually drive

    • @nishalvethanayagam
      @nishalvethanayagam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@SPAZTIK_OFFICIAL I used to feel the way too, that nothing will ever be able to replace the roar of a V12 - but having your head smashed back into the seat as you accelerate to 60mph in a scarcely believable 2.8s is in many ways an acceptable compromise. And you can bet all the things that made the cars we loved special will be there in the electric future too - speed, power, torque, leather, comfort. I think ICE's will have their place like manual gearboxes have their place today but it just won't be the meta, the automatic choice.

    the only problem is games dont simulate the feel of kicking the rear end out around a corner, or the feel of being forced into your seat under heavy acceleration or the excitement of clipping the apex on a twisty mountain road inches away from a ditch/cliff/rock wall, or even the adrenaline of triple digit speeds. its a damn shame most people view cars as another appliance and are so bored they turn to distractions while they are driving while enthusiasts get tickets for driving slightly faster than the artificially low speed limits while giving driving their full attention.

    I had an idea for a short story, that is similar to this trailer.
    The future, all cars are electric. Many are self driving pods that simply transport people from A to B.
    The few remaining cars that are driven by people are slow silent bubbles, safe inoffensive designs that are designed to get you there safely and relaxed. The vulgar days of speed, 0-60 times are a thing of the past. What use are those things anyway when all most people do is go to the beach or an air conditioned city street for a coffee.
    The world is a silent, peaceful place... the roads spotless, but a soulless sea of plastic and glass, silently humming along at 20mph.
    The combustion engine and its filth resigned to the history books, its still legal to own them, but you cant drive them on the road, and as of a few years ago its illegal to even start one of these machines...
    But there is still love for these old machines, the noise, the smells, the feedback they gave to the driver.
    My story would focus on a young man who has rebuilt an old car in his garage, but wishes he could drive it, feel how it was like all the old videos he's seen online.
    So he would source bits of petrol from various people, drops here, cup or two that he could get until he has nearly a full tank.
    Even though he know what he's going to do is crazy, illegal and dangerous... he's going to take the car out for a drive. Like it was made to do, that's its purpose...
    So for the last time the streets are going to echo with the sounds of what cars are all about... one last time.

    This resonates with me a lot and it’s very relevant still today. We are a dying breed. As society push us towards our demise and force us into their ideals we must stay stronger than ever. To show them that there’s just so much more to cars than just tools of transportation. Cars are a piece of our soul. Pushing them to the limit while pushing our limits from style to performance wise. And to enjoy them as much as we can. Because that’s why cars were made for. To enjoy them, to feel the adrenaline of pushing our boundaries of speed and to modify them to our please and push their capabilities like never before. Not just a thing that take us to point a to b. But people will never understand that. In fact they’re repulsed by the idea. Stay strong brothers, and lets us enjoy these wonderful marvels of machinery as much as we can while we still can.

    You know this is an enthusiasts commercial. Yeah, you can throw out horsepower numbers, 0-60 times, top speeds, all the specs you want.
    But this is what cars are really about. What happens to your brain, your heart when you mash the gas? What noise fills up your ears? What do you feel when you catch the back end as it steps out? I know for me, my heart beats faster and I have a dumb grin on my face.

    • @MacTechG4

      And you can do it in any car, my current daily is a ‘10 Honda Fit Sport (Golf TDI got too expensive to maintain) with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION, no the Fit isn’t fast, sexy, or ‘manly’, but the chassis is incredibly rigid, the steering is extremely precise, and the handling is predictable and consistent, I *KNOW* what the rear end is going to do when I enter a sharp corner at speed, how far I can push it in tight twisties, and during the winter on snowy roads, handbrake turns are a joy due to how balanced and consistent the handling is.
      Raw power is fun, no argument there, but even a properly set up small, and yes, slow… car can be fun
      To quote one of Clarkson’s compatriots, “it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow”
      Words of wisdom from Mr. Slowly ;)

    This video was such a Rollercoaster of memories and emotions.
    I forgot how significant this game was when i was younger, I vividly remember feeling emotional after the Jeremy Clarkson intro movie, It made me truly appreciate cars as art and not A to B transportation.
    Writing this In 2022 and after rewatching this for the first time ever since i was 12 i can say this video hit me like a train; Modern streets are flooded with bicycles and Teslas and gas prices are through the roof. Im not saying that this change is bad, its just excruciatingly painful seeing things that you truly adore being hunted and killed.
    In 2030 combustion cars will be illegal in many places around the globe, unless of course Porsche delivers on its promise of zero carbon fuel. But then again, that is just concept for now. (Make it happen Porsche!)
    Regardless of what happens, Im happy i got to see the best of the best when it comes to big combustion engines that play an orchestra when you unleash them.
    I didn’t understand your point of view back then ,Jeremy, but as much as It pains me to admit, you were right all along...

    The trailer they made with Jeremy Clarkson of Forza Motorsport 4 was filmed in my country in Uruguay where the Aston Martin appears running through the streets of Montevideo and the police chase it. I remember that I was going to work in the center of the city and I saw a tremendous display with cameras and people everywhere and I thought that they had robbed a bank haha and I realized that the police cars said POLICE instead of Police and I could feel the roar of the Aston Martin but continued without understanding what was happening. That day I was late for work because I stayed to see the show. Already in my work I was thinking things about what such a display could be, it could be a filming of a movie or series. A short time later I saw the trailer and I knew that I was there watching it without knowing it. Obviously like all Forza I couldn't stop having it and I bought it with more pride than ever. 💪💪

    Screw the nannystaters and protectionists, cars should be FUN! No nannyware, no intrusive “driver aids”, cars should be simple and pure, four wheels, an engine, MANUAL TRANSMISSION, firm suspension, crisp steering, supportive seats and a decent seat belt, it should take skill to drive!
    The more repressive nannyware is added, the more it encourages lazy/distracted/poor/unskilled driving.

      The thing is that we don't have the room to use our cars anymore.
      Too many traffic jams, too many low speed limit signs. Every time you want to go out and have some fun the backroads were the spot... but not anymore as they've put speeding cameras all over the place.
      I can't afford to use a race track... and my favourite out of my two cars is just left to rot because I can't drive it how I want.
      In today's time even your dream cars are pointless. I can't afford insurance for an E36 M3, in my country it might not even be able to pass emissions anymore.

      Stanislav Pavlov ; it must be horrible to live in an area infested with speed cameras :( here in the US, speed cameras are relatively uncommon, we just have artificially low speed limits and often very “enthusiastic” police who love to issue tickets
      Thankfully my daily driver is a bit of a sleeper, ‘12 VW Golf TDI, no it’s not a *fast* car, but it handles brilliantly for a small front drive hatchback, I can have just as much fun on a twisty 35-45 MPH back road as on a superhighway (more fun actually) as I subscribe to Captain Slow’s (Mr. Slowly’s) mantra of it being more fun to drive a slow car fast.
      Do a TH-cam search for Smugglers Notch Road in Vermont USA, and you’ll see an amazing road that is extremely challenging and fun even at 35 MPH, it’s so steep and twisty that it’s closed in the winter, because the state snow plow trucks cannot navigate it, too steep, too twisty, barely two lanes...
