27:33 for me if someone texts or calls i just put it on what i call my "expo line" - my virtual place in my mind that i prioritize tasks lol - and i will try to respond either right away or within the next few tasks. it's definitely something i struggled with when i moved into my apartment with my partner four years ago, i just kinda wanted to escape and ignore everyone, even selfishly, but then i realized over time that you never know when someone's day will be their last, so i just try to reach back to them as soon as i can. it definitely takes some time to find the right balance. but just remember, you can't fill anyone's cup until yours is filled first :) much love xx

i remember first moving away from home and being really anxious about it. i really dislike change and the thought of having to adapt to a new place was terrifying. but the adjustment was actually seamless for me. i didn't know i needed the change as much as i did. some days are really difficult being away from family, but on the whole i'm glad i made the choice. i view it like growing pains; it's hard but you really push and challenge yourself in ways you hadn't previously. i'm happy that your transition went better than you anticipated!! i'm excited to see the rest of the vlog and what new things you get up to ♥

Having a really anxious evening. Finally cooked myself some dinner while watching this ever calming video. The video was over just as I ate the last bite, so now I’m going to walk the dog and get some air, and then I’m going to do some yoga to see if that calms me down a bit. As an older person, I have regrets for not staying in touch with the people in my life who are now no longer here. There were so many things I wanted to say, that are now left unsaid..I miss them every day.

You're definitely not alone in how you feel about Toronto. I spent a large part of my childhood in the suburbs of Toronto, and every time I would go to the city I would feel that hustle culture, grindset in the air. You feel it all around you. That is the main reason that I chose to live in Montreal over Toronto (the other being rent prices lol). A lot of people here prioritize their life outside of work, which is very refreshing. I am so happy that you're enjoying the move so far, but I really recommend a weekend trip to Montreal in the fall (I shamelessly hype mtl in every way I can because it is so great haha).
I was so surprised when you said that you struggled with answering messages and calling people because I struggle with that too! I always thought it was just me who had problems with online communication since I had no idea why it took so much energy and willpower for me to even open a message (usually days after I received it). I think I overthink it a lot but I also truly wish to improve in that aspect ^^ Hugs, Emma!

FYI picnic at hanging rock is a great piece of literature for Australia. It’s a cult classic based on a mystery. Includes some info about our indigenous people and their connection to the lands. Really great kinda like virgin suicides
Hot yoga is the only workout I’ve ever loved and I miss is like crazy. I felt so strong and healthy when I was doing it regularly and my skin was incredible. I’m so glad you got to try it! I knew you’d find some nature spots around you that you’d love when in the city. And I love that you love Van Gogh from the Doctor Who episode. Same!! Toronto has interested me ever since I read Katherine Govier's classic collection *Fables of Brunswick Avenue* (1985 Penguin). I hope your book vlog goes out to Toronto's older neighbourhoods, its bookshops & libraries & cafes, meeting readers and writers alike. Ms Govier's book cover was from a painting by Albert Franck (1899-1973) who came to Canada from the Netherlands, painting Toronto in the winter.

I've been doing the One Hundred Years of Solitude reread, and I've just started a Silmarillion reread with Lucy/crescentpages, but I also just watched the new Sandman adaptation (I haven't read the comics but I've been meaning to for ages) and it inspired me to start reading Chesterton, so yesterday I started the first collection of Father Brown stories and they're genuinely excellent (would recommend) Glad you're settling in well in Toronto 😊 Slightly jealous that you can more or less go to the ROM and the AGO and all those places without having to plan your entire weekend around it (if you haven't been to the AGO it's brilliant)

As an Aussie, I would like to advocate for Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta for an Aussie read. It’s YA, it’s such a great book. It follows a third generation Italian Australian girl and pull between the culture of her country and the culture of her family. It’s quite old now but it gives a real vibe of 2000’s Sydney.
I feel like now that you’re in Toronto, every comment I’m leaving is a different recommendation for the city 😂 Highly recommend the restaurant Avelo. They’re a vegan tasting restaurant, and honestly some of the best food, vegan or otherwise that I’ve had in the city. Can be pricy, but entirely worth it, I think you’d love it
oh my! historically it also always rains on my birthday! bar this one i cannot remember a single year where water doesn't fall from the sky regardless of the weather in the days around it: it may be cloudy and drizzle all day, maybe light rain while the sun is out, a quiet rain afternoon or pre-down, or even a veritable downpour right in the middle of a sunny day where you couldn't tell that was going to happen or that it has indeed just happened. maybe it was raining the whole night but water always fall (this year the rain, a thunderstorm, was 2 hours before the date change but still), and again, it doesn't matter if the previous days might have been sunny and dry as a bone or grey and dreadful, rain always comes on my birthday and might leave no trae after it

FYI picnic at hanging rock is a great piece of literature for Australia. It’s a cult classic based on a mystery. Includes some info about our indigenous people and their connection to the lands. Really great kinda like virgin suicides

Hot yoga is the only workout I’ve ever loved and I miss is like crazy. I felt so strong and healthy when I was doing it regularly and my skin was incredible. I’m so glad you got to try it! I've been doing the One Hundred Years of Solitude reread, and I've just started a Silmarillion reread with Lucy/crescentpages, but I also just watched the new Sandman adaptation (I haven't read the comics but I've been meaning to for ages) and it inspired me to start reading Chesterton, so yesterday I started the first collection of Father Brown stories and they're genuinely excellent (would recommend)

As an Aussie, I would like to advocate for Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta for an Aussie read. It’s YA, it’s such a great book. It follows a third generation Italian Australian girl and pull between the culture of her country and the culture of her family. It’s quite old now but it gives a real vibe of 2000’s Sydney.
I feel like now that you’re in Toronto, every comment I’m leaving is a different recommendation for the city 😂
Highly recommend the restaurant Avelo. They’re a vegan tasting restaurant, and honestly some of the best food, vegan or otherwise that I’ve had in the city. Can be pricy, but entirely worth it, I think you’d love it

historically it also always rains on my birthday! bar this one i cannot remember a single year where water doesn't fall from the sky regardless of the weather in the days around it: it may be cloudy and drizzle all day, maybe light rain while the sun is out, a quiet rain afternoon or pre-down, or even a veritable downpour right in the middle of a sunny day where you couldn't tell that was going to happen or that it has indeed just happened. maybe it was raining the whole night but water always fall (this year the rain, a thunderstorm, was 2 hours before the date change but still), and again, it doesn't matter if the previous days might have been sunny and dry as a bone or grey and dreadful, rain always comes on my birthday and might leave no trae after it
