David I have a serious question for you. Kris are knives, but I have not seen you discuss or show any sharpening of them. Is it considered as something "not done" or disrespectful to the kris to sharpen it?
No a keris is no knife, it looks like a knive and it is made of metal, but it is the symbol of mount Kailash. A Badek is a knife. You can see it also on the grip. I also did a pen test, and unlike a badek or rencong, a keris is not able to stab threu a leather jacket. There are keris, a keris tempur, that can be used as a weapon, like you can use everything as a weapon, but it is not ideal made as a weapon.
The safest way is to use WD40. Just spray the blade, wrap it in a cloth and pack it in a plastic bag, to orevent drying out. Make sure you use enough WD40 to keep the blade moist. A more agressieve way is to put it in an acid bath with a ph-. Mostly fruit juices are used. I prefer lemon juice, just with water and keep it in intil all rust is gone.
How long should one keep a Keris wrapped in a cloth and plastic bag? What steps does someone take when they take the Keris out of the cloth and plastic wrap?
Good.
