- It's not a secret that I absolutely love colony / survival / base builders, which Is why I was so excited to give New Cycle a try. New Cycle is a game in which a solar flair has taken out civilization and you are humanity's last hope as chief of a band of settlers. You'll settle a community and embark on a number of challenges on your way to making a proposers new civilization.
In this video, I'll show you how the game works and walk you through the creation of a new colony. And at the end, I'll show you a city that I've grown to be a bit larger then the one in the video.
A huge shout out to the game's developer, Core Engage, for sponsoring the video! If you want to check out the game, it's available here: store.steampow...

Huge shout out to the Core Engage for sponsoring the video! If you're interested in picking up New Cycle, it's available on Steam for $29.99, with a 10% discount for the first two weeks after launch!
Check it out here - store.steampowered.com/app/2198510/New_Cycle/
Hi CPP - Have you played Against The Storm? Seeing as you like Timberborn (AtS also has beavers lol!) and New Cycle it might really be up your street! The 'roguelike' elements can be tough in it, but provide a really rewarding challenging play style!

City Planner plays city builders, not just Cities: Skylines
I'm here for it! I'll be adding this game to my wishlist.
Yes! Just because the name changed, doesn't mean the intent did!
Cringe lol
@@Boss-zo4lw your last two braincells died along with the wasted bandwith used to post your comment to the internet
I like how you cover other up and coming city builders; keeps me aware of how the genre is evolving. Please keep doing that! Have you ever played Patron by Overseer Games or Farthest Frontier by Crate Entertainment?
I have! I made a video on Patron a while back because I was so excited about it and made one on Farthest Frontier as well (but never released that for some reason). Both are excellent games!
RELEASE THE KRAKEN... video@@CityPlannerPlays
The Frostpunk-inspired UI is so well done and improved upon. They took a game I love and did something very cool with it. I LOVE the ability to create curved roads and the different map environments. Someone else mentioned concern about replay-ability, but I look at city builders like this less about 'changing it up' and more about a comfort in predictability. ETA to add: I would love to see more content like this!
The curved roads are a fantastic change. I hope every similar builder takes note.
the UI looks VERY cloned from Frostpunk.
@@markcaddy wich is definitely a good thing
The ui also reminded me of victoria 3
For some reason I’m a member huh. Not mad but surprised.
Maybe a gifted
Yoooo,I want that also 😢
How come i dun have as well?

Bro your voice and content is so relaxing, thank you. I'm a person, that needs to read a lot of world news, mostly serious global problems shit, and your contect is such a good way to disconnect from the bullshit, and just chill. Thank you.
Happy to help! Thanks for being here and I hope that the news doesn't get you down too much!

@@tvojemanka ah, thats tough then. Good luck with your major !
@@GerarddeBaar Thank you!
I'd watch a story driven series of this!
Looking at the in game weather and the need for a tavern to keep society going, pretty sure the apocolypse that this game follows takes place in the same universe as ClearWater and Magnolia counties as well as Nicolet Bay. Will Chuckle's nephew make a showing? Time will tell.
@@UrbanPanic hahaha, I'm pretty sure it's just Wisconsin in the winter
the post apocalyptic city of my dreams...
Edit to add: RIP to a fellow Brandon S (yup, I'm Brandon, last initial S)
Haha, Sorry Brandon
the games setting of being a post apocalyptic is interesting and it really is beautiful
Completely agree!
This looks awesome - I would love to see more of this
Decent chance I stream this one. Tbh, it's one of those games where you end up getting sucked in an accidentally lose 4 hours
What's the map situation for this like? Is it only the three maps, one for each biome? Does that affect the replayability?
Wouldn't mind a second episode of this like you did with Timberborn.
Given this is a Frost-Punk reskin, I'm guessing we're going to get more scenarios with sandbox ability over time the way FP has.
According to some of the steam discussions, they currently only have a single static map. but they engine is fitted for unique procedurally generated maps.
@@xphoenixrising I don't understand how this is like Frostpunk?
@@darrylbrownstone2553 Close - there are the three with the additional world available outside of your (within the map, since there are regions) and then the one additional world that are adding. The procedural part is right, too. Asked the Dev for more info though and will relay back whatever I find out!
@@antorseax9492The game play is very similar. But there's older games that are very similar to both.
This game looks amazing. When it comes out I hope you do a full series!
Hopefully I can see more episodes about this series. I really enjoyed it
I really want to like all these post-apocalyptic city builders. But they all kind of play the same, and after a few hours they become repetitive (IMHO). Does this one have anything that sets it apart from its competitors?
What's a CPP game without a little fire 🔥
@@CityPlannerPlays🔥🏝
Looks cool. I might get it when it is more developed. I don't like to get early access games most of the time since sometimes the games never leave early access or it takes forever for them to do so.
Totally fair! This one does feel quiet far along - kind of like Timberborn, but I get that. There was a demo in the past and hopefully there will be in the future so folks can try it out.
I know this is a sponsor, but it's great to see some diversity on your channel from CS2! Great work! excited for the stream tomorrow!!
Thank you! I enjoyed mixing it up a bit myself! See you tomorrow!!
I super enjoyed that video and would be happy to watch any content of this type of game 😁 cities, timberborn, anon or this 👍👍👍 keep it coming I just wish it was daily releases i can't watch enough 🎉
Glad you enjoyed it! Maybe I need to put together a second channel with less edited but more frequent releases. I wonder how that'd go over...
The premise of this game is so bleak considering this WILL happen in the next couple thousand years if we as society even make it that far.
This looks fun, also I wish you could give a try to games like Ostriv, more of Ano 1800, maybe Tropico games, and give a try to Workers and Resources Soviet Republic, one of my favorites city builder of this generation, unfortunately it doesn't get the deserved recognition 😔 but it's a great city builder game.
yeah workers and resources seems to be perfect for his storytelling with how in depth it is and how it is an actual economic simulation.
I just picked up Ostriv on Lee Hawkins recommendation and LOVE Tropico and Anno! I really struggled with W&R, but I just keep hearing better and better things. Do you think it's improved much in the last year from a tutorial standpoint?
@@CityPlannerPlays For WRSR, it recently got a campaign, might be a good way to follow things up in the game, also the community is going to help you as you need to learn about things, this game is pretty much the best way for you to make your histories, it will give you lots options for you to plan things out, I think the best way is to give a try and slowly get into it ☺️ the more you play, more things you will learn, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people like me on comments to give you feedback and we can help each other xD
Am I missing something, what is the unique aspect of this game? Looks very out of the box, as done by Foundation, Settler, Frostpunkt and many before, I do not understand why I would want to play this game instead of all the others...
I hope we can have a series of this ❤❤
Would love to see more episodes of this
I swear all these games now feel like they are almost the exact same. This game is almost identical (gameplay-wise) to games such foundation or kingdoms reborn
Excellent video. You really do show the gameplay well. My only criticism is of the game's color palette. It's a bit drab (almost monochrome), but my comparison is to CS which of course is not meant to be in the same theme/era.
Hey, Phil! Love the content! Have you tried Against the Storm? One of the best city builders I've played in the last few years, hands down.
I have not, but I just added it to my wishlist! Looks very good!!
Looks like Manor Lords but with different skins.
I don't mind stories that border on the improbable or even explore it but I do take issue with stories that are based on the impossible and I believe there were other ways to initiate a story in this world and make it engaging beyond, "The sun is dying 6 billion years early...." just my two cents. That said the mechanics of the game are intreresting.
I tried it but it grew stale pretty fast. Its just a resource grind. Graphics are nice but bland. It tries to be Anno and Frostpunk but only does them 1/2 as well.
Looks good and all, but what does it do to stand out of all the other post apocalyptic (survival) city builders?
Why play this over something else?
I love games like these, but what is the "end game" for these types of games? It feels like once you played through it once it would be pretty much the same thing every time. Is there any sort of combat or outside barriers that might get in the way of normal game play?
Hope to see a series on this! I liked your gameplay and I want to see more.
You should try doing a multiplayer with your wife
Funny enough that's kind of how she got into it with me - I booted it up and she asked if she could play... we ended up spending 5 hours playing together the first time and talking through a build!
Would love to see more of these types of games from you, it's interesting to get a city planning take on these survival games with limited resources and space
looks like someone copied Annos homework
That snow and and lighting in the winter is so accurate but… it’s kind of hard to look at? Like I was stressed out watching you play. I imagine it’d wear me down. Is there an option to make it more… visually playable in winter?
Besides that this seems cool. I’ll def play it if it comes to PS5.
Agreed, it's like too hazy for me. It's very pretty and more realistic, but for gameplay I would want to turn it off. I don't usually like weather in games though, it's pretty distracting seeing the rain drops and snow bits zoom past the screen.
1:41 the description for the Steppe map says “an environment that lacks trees,” but the image is just a picture of trees haha
What kind of Cities Skylines 2 mod is this ?
I think you would love the game Manor Lords, which is going to release in April. Would love to watch your walkthroughs!
This game is awesome! Would love to see a series of this game!
Love that you check out other city builders / games.
Will definitely check out this game when it comes out of early access!
Will you be checking out Frostpunk 2 when it comes?
I definitely think I could get into this game {more than CS2 currently}!
i love that no matter what you play, the fires follow you. 🤣
Great job Phil. Can't wait to see if you keep posting for this game.
i cant wait for this to be released, im hyped
Really nice change of pace! Seens like a interesting game!
well now we need a full series of this game from you
Always liked your videos because of the positive vibe. As much as I love Cities Skylines, please check out more city builder games and make reviews, there's a ton of them out there and I am one that is very interested in your take.
Any specific recommendations? I'd love to check others out!
@@CityPlannerPlays Since you've already mentioned Frostpunk, I'd just be looking forward if you'll ever checkout the 2nd one coming out soon. Also, The Constructors is kinda interesting, but I've yet to see an actual gameplay and it's also around the corner.
I love the fact that you're kind of branching out and playing new games! Don't be shy about being excited for new games!!! Your fans love it! Keep playing and making videos! We'll def keep watching!
It very much feels and looks like Surviving the Aftermath with better graphics.
Got my eyes on Manor Lords 👀. Cool series! I'd love to see a small series on the game.
I am SUPER pumped for Manor Lords! On my wishlist!
@@CityPlannerPlays think you can get your hands on it for a pre release demo? 😬
I really enjoyed this video and can't wait until tomorrow! Hope you keep doing let's plays with this series!
Great video! I love seeing you branch out from Skylines into other titles :)
This looks like a direct reskinned copy of Furthest Frontiers. Can you tell me where this game stands out so I can see if the game is worth while? I have this a lot with game reviews, playthroughs and such content, information what sets a title apart from the rest. Not specifically where it is "better" but what this game could give that Furthest Frontiers and similar games don't.
Seems like a Frostpunk ripoff
So, basically banished spawn a new "sub-gengre" of strategy games and u can call it banished-like games. Northgard, Patron, timberborn, Manor Lords, Settlement Survival, Forest village (rip-off/copy), Farthest frorntier(another copy although not that obvious as the Forest village) and now this New Cycle. Sounds to me more like "Re-Cycle" than New Cycle
Gorgeous looking game - thanks for the first look. Deffo peaked my interest.
Sat on my wishlist for a while this one. Looking forward to release tomorrow
Great review. I used to like these kinds of survival builders. I LOVED surviving Mars for example. Thing is, I'm 44 and a super old man gamer now. I much prefer cities skylines because it's a city builder with zero stress. I used to laugh at my old man back when I was young because he played old man games. Zero stress games that he could chill out to. Now I find that after working 60+ hours a week, I am just the same as him. I just want to relax. Lol.
That being said, the game looks awesome, and maybe I'll give it a go. I just hope it has a super easy mode. Lol
Just bought the game, looks really interesting.
Gotta find something to do, Cities Skylines 2 is broken for me as I've the textile bug where' I inexplicably make $160+ mil/month with a population of 13,000 and only 15 farms, none focusing on textiles.
This seems to be a recurring theme with the community and I'm glad. Biffa just released a video where he explained some issues and I really hope Colossal Order sees these and pays attention. It seems many of the Cities content creators are running for the hills on Cities 2 and it's really not surprising. It's really hard to not bash CO when you explain some of the issues here to outsiders, but it's reality; they're the company with the IP, they're the company with the developers, they're running the show. To see community members get banned for constructive criticism and call out the community for "being mean" is an outrage, and now the announcement that bugs will only be fixed as part of DLC's that you have to pay for is a bit of a slap in the face.
I don't own the game, but I've played it on my friend's PC after he got it on pre-order. And he's extremely disappointed. The game could be considered early access at best and definitely not worth the $50. I pre-ordered Cities 1 and own almost every DLC bar 3, I think. I haven't and will not buy this. CO has some serious work to do.
So people, who were born after electricity went out, just can't live without electricity. If they can't have it, they just give up, rebel and rather chose to die.🤔
I understand that difficulty has to be created, but given the level of technology they managed to salvage from the past, wind turbines, wires, lightbulbs seems a little odd. Especially before copper mining being available as technology. Hunting and fishing should given as basic with gathering, as somehow they just managed to get here, so I guess they had it. Or how did they survive on the road for decades? Why they all still have clothes? Decades after production stopped?
Just a few question...
Frostpunk with a different spin and more depth.
Loved Frostpunk, actually can't wait for FP2 to come out.
Will give this a go once it comes out as full release.
P.S. Love your work, keep it up.
I feel like this game is a missed opportunity. I'm imagining this could work almost like a Rogue-like city builder. This is post-apocalypse so most of your "research" is going to be finding old world books to teach people or skilled people showing up in your camp. I don't like that you somehow just discover the ability to harvest metals because there are 30 people huddled around your campfire.
So start of the game you start out with basic people with some survival skills and some builders. But then you get a few specialists with random skills. Maybe they're hunters, farmers, beer brewers, doctors, etc. Then you send out parties to explore ruins and if they return safely they might have some good tools or skill books.
City builders often focus on buildings, but I feel like post-apocalypse is a great setting for a city to be about the people. James and Melanie are not just worker a and worker b, James has a degree in chemistry and Melanie was a gas pump attendant.
All that to say I think this game does look like fun, but I feel it is too bland to stand out.
I just wish there was a city survival game like this or Banished that didn't have this hideous "post-apocalyptic" aesthetic. So tired of it. What, we forgot how to properly trim logs for power poles? We forgot how to make panels fit together properly because of... apocalypse? Wild-West homes in the 1800s look better than these things.
New Haven should be a small (under 500 residents) farming community in Magnolia County. Make post-apocalyptic Superior cannon
I don't understand what is going on with my game. I'm at a population of 40 year 6. I have 10000+ resources I can't get to the next cycle because I can't get to a population of 50. My citizens die as fast as children become adults. I have people working as little as possible and my morale is maxed out. I can't research anything because I can't get to the next cycle because my population is stuck and no one new is joining my city. I guess I win?
When I initially saw this upload, I thought "huh.. this game looks like every other game in this genre" but then I came back, read the comments, ventured to the Steam page to see what folks had to say..
I don't own any survival city builders like this but I like to watch people play them. Is there a way to toggle off weather though? At least the above-ground foggy effects and precipitation?
"...a game in which a solar flair has taken out civilization..." FLAIR refers to talent or style. FLARE, on the other hand, refers to sudden light.
You "tomorrow, january 18th."
Me "today is 15th, what are you talking about... oh yeah, it's february already."
First of all. Love your content.
You are gunna hate me for this. If you like this game you will LOVE Manor Lords when it comes out in April.
Similar to this game but 10 times better.
This game looks really good and might give it a go, gives a lot of Frost Punk vibes.
One point though.
I would love games like this to have a extra difficulty level - realism.
50 Years has past since the digital age ended and yet a group of random people know where to find water for a well, how to build a windmill, how to smelt ore and make tools.
What would be great in the realism difficulty is people have levels of experience and skill.
Who here knows how to find water?
Who here knows how to mine iron and know where to find it?
Who here knows how to build a windmill and build a power grid when you have no access to current (pun intended) technology.
When people come to your town you can see what skills and experience they have - do you need a Well and this person knows how to find water, but not build it? great come on in, it is half the problem solved.
Another person has simple knowledge of construction as their farther was a builder 50 years ago - brilliant come on in!
It will make the player have to think, this family has 6 children who could learn from a builder you have - bring them in. These two people are old and have no skills but they have a rare book on smelting, what do you do? rob them or let them in. Or a single person who can't work, needs more food but can teach farming.
Games like this need a simple distribution system. Uneducated and learning people take up simple jobs moving goods from place to place. Your town has people who can build them simple carts and eventually more advanced higher capacity transport, like horse and larger carts.
I think these things will make the people in your town more important, give you something to care about and remove the simple click here place here and will appear and at once work.
When your last builder dies in cave in or your last person who knew how to maintain your solar panels it will make their loss more felt for the future of your town, cause panic and discontent. Where as a new born will bring joy of the future or the next round of educated people join your workforce.
I saw a video where it gave you a boost to your health if you maximized wells by connecting to 1 nod per building because they all produce 96 water anyways and have a chance of replenishing?
Would you know more on that? Thanks!
Looks an awesome game! Another city builder that has massive appeal! I really need to make the switch and buy a PC because you just dont get this kind of game on console...
@CityPlannerPlays - How have you dealt with the illness deaths that seem to start near the end of the 2nd Cycle? Largest population I've lost is 76. They all eventually died off, and newcomers don't seem to replenish fast enough.
Looks like a cross between Frostpunk and Endzone: A World Apart. How they handle dynamic challenges and the campaign would make or break it for me but I'll check it out.
Looks fun. Kind of like Anno and Banished had a baby, will be interesting to see if they take it somewhere new though. The Tech tree appears to allow you to make decisions, but you seem to need to do it in a particular order but maybe that's just the first few levels. Curious how far you can take your technology since we seem to have electricity quite early, but can we progress to other types of transportation, farming, science, etc in order to rebuild civilization, or are we just going to live in a crude off the grid community forever? Maybe fending off raiders from other communities at some point.
It looks interesting but it is strange that you would establish a settlement away from a reliable water source. The groundwater won't last forever. There also doesn't appear to have battery technology, and a single windmill can provide their power needs. What if the wond stops blowing?
I wonder if this game is appealing to a planner because since you're basically restarting civilization, you get a really organic growth to your city as you tech up. Instead of say CS:II where you start with a blank slate in the modern auto-centric era so design cities accordingly.
Also the eternal appeal of returning to monke
A real challenge for a city builder is a libertarian economy, a socialist, a free market economy, a communist economy or a mixed economy... That might cut through the BS,
Can some one create a game that combines City Skylines 2, Civ 6, Age of Empires, and Sim City, Through the Ages.
Making the soup I noticed you had 666 water. 6 6 6 the water of the beast! 🤘😂 Wouldn't mind seeing more videos on this game.
I’m so sad Surviving the Aftermath game wasn’t more like this. I would like to stop switching between the games :)
Hmm... so Post Apocalyptic Farthest Frontier-ish with Frostpunk vibes. Looks quite slick
Wow, interesting i have not been getting your notifications i normally did but all of a sudden nothing. Today i get notified of this ill be putting it on my wishlist. I love games likes this, i just love really good city building and i love Anno! You go onto the Hunting portion, but you would think they would also allowing herding so you could maintain a large and reproduction of animals?
Thanks. It looks amazing... but I think it is to some extent dark (the colours). maybe needs colour correction or something like that.
Have you played Against The Storm? I think it's fantastic, played thru early access.
Hmm I don’t know why but I don’t like the grey/brown color theme. Looks kinda depressing for me…
Is this the same developer that made Frostpunk? The UI looks familiar
The bottleneck I'm finding resource wise in this game is human. I think I keep wanting to expand too fast since the game will let you build things before it requires you to and it doesnt count it if it is already built!
This looks very interesing, I hope you continue playing, and making videos for this game. :)
Picking this up tomorrow. So excited.
5:01 Wait, what? If a solar flare took out all of the technological infrastructure, how could nuclear weapons be deployed. The controls rely on the infrastructure that would have probably been taken out by the solar flare.
Looks like a great game. Devs need to recognize the difference between windmills and wind turbines, and edit accordingly.
Id love to see you play Banished, its also a bit of a city builder, available on steam and has a bunch of mods on steam workshop. Its not a new game and has some crashing issues but I've always enjoyed it
Reminds me of Banished!
Absolutely loved this video and would love to see you take it further. Is this just a one time visit to this game for the channel? Or will you be doing more videos when you have the chance?
I need to give this a look. I've held off on CS2 till they get it squared away and this looks pretty fun. Hopefully there's enough meat on the bone at this point to keep me entertained.
Man, these people are impatient and whiny. Not as much as the civs in Frostpunk, but still. XD
Map type descriptions seem to be somewhat weirdly formulated and their effects don't always match the description.
