Since you said you're diabetic, purely in the interest of your health, I'd better take that other jar from you. Only because of your health mind you, 🙂🙂

The taps (spiles) work best on the south side of a tree and they should slope down towards the container.

1st time i have heard of tapping Birch trees ., Maple trees yes , but never heard of tapping Birch .
Because it has so much sugar in it. , It's easy to disstile .
Add a bit of Vanilla and a bit of Cimmamon to the mash and You have Irish Whiskey ( : .
Get some 15Ltr buckets from the grocery store and let it sit for a yr mmmmm.
Money to be made here Sir .

i did manitoba maple (box elder) syrup here in sask years ago for two years at a 26>1 ratio (have no idea why it was so concentrated?)...it was a light gold -straw color and a regular syrup consistency equal to sugar maple syrup for flavor but a bit different (i prefer the box elder syrup)...did it with propane, won't bother again until i have a nice set up like yours friend...thanks for sharing, i always learn something interesting...Yah bless...doug

Great video, your really set up for cooking outdoors. Looks like you can rotate your kettle and I like the food grade stainless cook top. Also the cylinder stove looks good for outdoor canning. The eggs and pan cakes look good and nice to see you share with the dog. Ha Ha

it's actually a bad thing to plug the hole. its better to let the tree heal itself

Nice video, Sir! I've been making maple syrup for a few years now and have considered doing birch, as well. I needed a refresher on the bitch process. I knew the ratio was higher with birch, but couldn't recall the exact ratio. At 100:1, ehhh, I may pass on the birch! LOL. I might try it at 50:1. I am currently wrapping up a few weeks of maple syrup production. Perhaps I will have a more optimistic view once I take a break from my maple production! Haha! Thanks for your fantastic video. - Rick
