I have heard of a yellow bellied sap sucker but never heard of a grey hoody tree sucker!! Nicely done!

Black Hills here, weird climate/soil. Going to tap Birch for the first time pretty quick. Thanks for the walkthrough, seems straightforward. Beautiful whitetail mount, by the way.

Great video! My brother makes it sometimes. I had some at our cabin and it was excellent!

In Pennsylvania we drink Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer. Absolutely delicious ! Originally made from Birch trees, don’t know how much is natural today.

I just might have to look up the recipe and give that a try.

@@BuickOutdoorsThe recipe is on TH-cam, my advise is to use carbon dioxide gas, or carbonated water. Don’t use yeast, it gives the birch beer a bad taste. By the way it’s very similar to root beer. If you order some, get it in the glass bottles or cans, much better taste than the plastic bottles.

Loved this video. This is not something we’ve tried, but now I’m thinking next spring we will give it a go! Neither of us have tried birch syrup. I’m going to see if I can find some at the farmers market maybe 🤔

It's amazing stuff. It's pretty hard to find. Even the birch water you can buy from the health food store isn't the same.

Try this sometime don't let it boil just simmer your sap it stays sweet and if you simmer your sap way down it will get as thick as molasses and taste like molasses too

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

What month is best for tapping? I’m in zone 5a and tapped some trees yesterday but nothing came out!

Nice video. I've been making maple syrup for a few years but would like to add birch onto my list. The process is very similar to boiling maple sap, but an even higher ratio. How much propane did you use to boil down that 25 litres? I want to decide if I should use my evaporator stove or my propane burner. Thanks much! - Rick

It doesn't take much to do 25 liters. We usually boil down between 25 to 50 gallons and I want to say we go through 40 to 60 pounds of propane. When we're boiling I don't really pay attention to how much propane we use. We just fill the bottles as needed.

I thought your not supposed to boil birch like maple... only a light simmer or else it burnsss.... 🤔

I've never had a problem with it.
