Thanks! I was waiting for you to do a sound demo of this. I have the UAD, Softube, old Waves version and this one as well. Haven't been home to test this one out, but to my ears it sounded amazing. Very rich/saturated and punchy. It certainly has way more of an affect on the sound than the original waves plug imho. Great video as always. Can't wait to get back to the home & lab to use it. Thanks again.
I have had this plugin but have really not used it on each track, and have used it sparingly. When I first bought it, it seemed a bit "daunting"! BUT now intend to TEST it along with OTHER CLA plugins, and I have MOST of them, as CLA did on another video. Dave, what you brought up with interesting when in PT 1, you went to a Test Track 7, and put Ac Gtrs on it, but then discovered you can only put one track in one bucket. I'm gonna do my own test to see if this will work. I will put 2 AC Gtrs in its own bucket. The in ST-1, create a Buss with ALL Gtrs, incl AC GTRs, EGs and bass. Then see if on the Ac Gtr bucket, they are still in there. Can't screw it up so I might as well try it! haha GOOD JOB on Both Vids, Dave.
At @ 5:59 - decent mix, but no drums to speak of. At @ 6:11 with global plugin activation switch - BOOM - the drums poke through beautifully. I have so many of these channel strip plugins already, but the more I watch your demos the more I can see the feature/benefit factor making it a worthwhile purchase.
part 1 and 2 are real good videos with a lot of info- thanks! I hear you mention the A/B and gain staging issue repeatedly through both. I normally would not comment but perhaps I have an idea to help with your concern. The way I alhave addressed that is to place all DAW faders at unity 0 and insert a gain plugin into slot 1 on each track. Gain stage each track using that first. Then add Mixhub as slot #2. This retains the original waveform as well as daw fader unity. Use Mixhubs input and output to control the levels in and out of that plugin to match the sweet spot of the next plugin. You most likely wont even need to use the input trim in Mixhub since the input gain is already set. You mght ask why since Mixhub has the ability to gain stage on the input? Well, this gives you complete A/B without changing from fader unity even when you bypass the entire Mixhub plugin. Provides a more accurate reference and all daw faders are still at 0 when done mixing in Mixhub, leaving it nice and clean for the next step.

I really wish waves just issued this as an update to their existing SSL strip's interface as this is a vastly improved sound. I hate the clunky interfacing and that alone is enough to have me not use it, despite really enjoying the sound. I also wish they stuck to a simple and faithful SSL recreation. Adding things such as a wet/ dry knob on the compressor, adding a bluey comp version, a ducker to the gate, a VU meter, and a solo & mute in the channel are just unnecessary features that clutter it. I want to achieve an SSL board sound and utilize the best of DAW workflow, not be forced to use CLA's workflow and have a bunch of unnecessary additional features. SSL got it right the first time with the console, and waves, UAD, BX, and SSL Native's interfaces are much better and work within a DAW setting. Everyone wants analog sound in a digital workflow, not analog sound, analog workflow. For those who want knobs and faders, build them a hardware controller. This really could have been a great waves update to their original SSL plugin but, in my opinion, they really screwed it up. I feel like waves has such a great selection of legacy plug ins that they should focus more on updating and refining their existing base, not trying to re-sell us things we already bought with a worse interface.

So 1st I love your channel, discovered it when I switch from PT to SOne earlier this year and can honestly say you've saved me a ton of time learning the in's and out's of a new DAW setup. Now about this plug-in, in the demo that I watched on the Waves site, CLA had his showing a quad box where he could seemingly see all 4 aspects of the plugin at 1 time. I've watched a few other demos of this on other channels and it's not there. I assume that was some post-production editing that as done by Waves for the CLA demo? Finally, it's been a few months since you shot this video, has there been an update? Is there a SOLO button now? I have a ton of Waves produce and other than that "cool" factor this one is a tough choice before I plunk down the money for it. Always looking for your honest opinion. Thanks!
Just an FYI. The insert feature within MixHub is not supported in Studio One as of the writing of this comment. You will find this under the Tech Specs for the plugin. I found this out the hard way. While it does actually allow you to use Waves plugins as inserts within the MixHub plugin I discovered that after saving the session and re-opening it some of the plugin settings within the MixHub insert module will change. What changes varies depending on which Waves plugin you use. For instance with the F6 plugin I found that it will turn off all the EQ bands. It will also set all the bands to low-shelf and in the case of the stereo plugin all the bands will be reset to stereo regardless of previously being set to mid or side processing. There are other plugins like the Waves Sibilance plugin where only the Lookahead button will be turned off even if you had enabled it previously. It really depends on which plugin you are using but so far all the ones I have used in the MixHub insert module has had some settings that had to be re-established every time I re-open my Studio One session. This issue is happening for me as the writing of this comment using the latest version of Studio One 4 with the latest version of MixHub on the latest version of Windows 10.
HI Dave, i got to spend plenty fo time with this plugin earlier this week, and its really frustrating, its so close to being great but the workflow issues (like many you've highlighted) really let it down. Bucket view - why only limit it to 8 tracks per bucket? Drums tracks frequently have more than 8 channels so why not make the Bucket expandable? Look at your screen, you've got plenty of screen real estate to accomodate a bigger Bucket view. The fader issue - a big one for me, why have faders in the Mix Hub that don't have communication with the DAW's channel fader No pans, mute or solo - again i know CLA has his mixes prepped prior to mixing so he's only working with the tracks he intends to mix,but no mute or solo slows everything down for me. Lack of VCA fader on the Output - when working with the faders in Output view there were a few times when i wanted to lower the volume of all faders but maintaining the relative balance to each other. Can't do that in the Mix Hub. Unresponsive GUI - i don't know if you experienced this Dave as i use Studio One with the Faderport but the Mix Hub GUI became unresponsive many times, i think this is a bug. No inter-communication between track name in the DAW. You pointed this out so i don;t need to expand on that. Other than that it sounds great. Currently i won't be buying until the issues above are addressed.
Thanks for watching! I don't disagree with anything you mentioned. I think this could have been a great plugin but for me personally, the things you mentioned are spot on.
Ok in regards to you question about bucket view....do you know what this is? On an SSL console there are whats known as buckets of 8 faders.. between each set of 8 faders you get this metal strip from the top of the console all the down ( not obstructing the faders themselves..just above solo and mute buttons are) Bucket view is just that! This is why buckets are limited to 8 Faders or 8 slots because on the SSL itself there 8 faders or slots per bucket and my guess is that its based on power management. Maybe each bucket has its own power access so if a bucket lost powwer the other buckets would not and continue to work? ( ME just guessing )

David,
Any thoughts on this plug in a year and half later? Have you found yourself using this, or is there an alternate to this plug in? Thanks!
I rarely use it to be honest.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Interesting, have you replaced it with something similar?
Thank you
David one cool thing also I think is that you have the option to get a Waves Soundgrid Server and free you CPU
Yep, I know about that. Thanks
Maybe use Mixtool as 1st plugin to trim and get levels?
Yep, that can be done as well

Why not engage the -20db pad and then drive the mic or line up 20 db? Get more console sound.
yes, absolutely that it an option as well
Yeah. Thats what I do. Sounds so smooth that way.
Some of the issues (like track names) seem to have been addressed.

No updates as far as I can tell. I honestly dont use this plugin. I much rather use the other brands. They are simply easier to use.
Are you using a Soundgrid Server; if so, which one?
No. Not using a sound grid server. All native.
