- Those of you who know me or are familiar with my channel know how much i boast about Knoebels and specifically their Haunted Mansion dark ride. A ride that lists in the top 10 across America. Well for those of you who enjoy it as much as i do, you are in for a special treat. I was able to film the Haunted Mansion with the LIGHTS ON! Something that very few people get to witness. This is absolutely a magnificent form of folk art. The sets are so artistic and in good taste, unlike the gore and violence seen so often. This was a joy to experience. This ride should be on the National Historic Register.
except the ones in the dungeon lol, but that's about the worst of it
You should see the Grand Carousel they have. It's spectacular, over 100 years old if I recall.

Back in the day.....oh about 40 years ago.... I used to ride that with my Dad. I had my eyes closed the whole time 😬

My mom would drag me on with my older cousin. And she would sleep over the night before and tell me scary stories about the haunted house. The one that scared me the most is that they would pull children off the ride and lock them in that banging door. She really sucked. Lol
glad im not the only one..im almost 30 (been almost 20 since ive been back) and have yet to make it through with eyes opened

I enjoy that the park always changes this classic dark ride, but I do miss the room of mirrors with glowing skulls. Glad to see they were repurposed!
Im glad they still have a few floating skulls.
It's still kinda there. They just built around it. I think they should make it a bit more prominent in the upside down room.
I remember the snake having bandages over its nose because so many riders would punch it in the face when it popped out. (I was under 13 years of age mind you, I'm 24 now) but absolutely loved this ride growing up and still do as a parent!
Personally. With my affection towards haunted attractions, I love the “lights on” thing. I’ve always wanted to know what it would look like with lights on. So because of that, this is definitely one of my favorite videos. I wish it could be longer but I understand, it’s a ride and not a walk through.

Very cool! Like you mentioned, you can see so much more when the lights are on. It kind of ruins the fun and thrill factors, but it’s cool to see how it’s all put together. Cool video!

@@mindyroat4923 well, most parts DO have ambient lighting of some sort but set very dimly.
The truck gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I worked on a television show during my college years in Knoebels Haunted mansion for the discovery channel. I assisted in lighting for the shoot, it was challenging to light a dark ride without ruining the ride effect. Great experience. We find ourselves at knoebels several times each summer, it is a gem in our area.

I've gone to Knoebel's every year for 40 years until covid happened.
It certainly has changed over the years. But between the camping and rides/food/games, it's a great place to go if and when it's not totally packed as it has been in recent years.
I rode it once as a kid, my eyes were closed 90% of the time. lol I thought it was a train light and noise, not a truck.
1:29 Disney's Haunted Mansion used to have hanging strings like that. They weren't removed in the traditional sense, but rather ripped off the ceiling by poorly-behaved guests, and they just knew better than to try to replace them.
At 2:29 you can see a scary character covered in back that is the billy boy animatronic from the hard luck bears
2:28 if you look to the left you can see a hard luck bear animatronic to the left covered in a black cloth
It's so interesting to see how everything works with the lights on.
The Haunted Mansion at Knoebels is, by far, my favorite ride in the entire park...
I love everything about this this ride especially the organ and the dungeon/torture chamber... I love how they hand painted the walls to look like stone, the bodies hanging around and the wooden ceiling... Such detail 😊

The headlights and car horn were the only thing that startled my Daughter and I.
The attention to detail is rather cool. Some the big set pieces deserve to be lit because.of how stunning the artistry is

I grew up in Riverside Danville area and in the 1970s we would always go at least 4 times in the summer and we always went to the pool every other week
Would be cool if right after u did this lights on version u could have done the lights off version. But still was interesting.
I already filmed the dark version two or three times this season. Still happy i got to film it.

Around two years ago i went to Knoebels and rode this, as i have many times before. I was the first rider of the day, and they forgot to shut off the lights. It was very interesting seeing it in person.
I let the ride operator know about the lights being on, and he offered me a free ride with the usual lights off saying that this time it will be scary. I told him that even in total darkness i laugh my ass off at all the various scares in there
What an AMAZING old school ride...I couldn't believe the constant twists and turns of the track...So well engineered! I imagine a young child would be scared out of their wits...I bet there's been a lot of tears shed in there...Philly native...I regret not going there in the 60's when I was a kid...Thanks for the tour, though...It's a feel good place *Knoebels...

Still spooky with lights on like a weird dream
With the amount of buzzers and whistles you would think we were at a car wash. It sounds annoying but yeah they remind me of a car wash.
This is my favorite dark ride
This ride scared the crap out of me when I was a kid
When I went there possibly at middle school age, I literally covered myself up since I felt that scared of looking at anything in this ride.
Every time you guys sho cover your ears because I go on and I had my one time with my uncle
The water fall was cool
A lot has changed since I was a kid but theres a good bit that hasn't. That sound when going through the black n white stripey room with strobe was always so damn cool

I noticed the same thing you did the dresser with roller skates. Now I'm going to have to look for it when I go through in the dark again.
Harder to see with lights off. But definitely noticeable.

I never knew the guy with the ax, next to The skeleton playing the organ, was on a set of steps! Also I loved seeing all the things in the attic. You don’t realize how much is in there like you said there is a dresser!

Great to see this with the lights on! It’s been at least 30 years since I’ve been there but the truck at the end with the high beams and the horn was the one thing I always remember. Scared me half to death just ‘cause it was so loud and unexpected, loved it!

The absolute best haunted mansion ride on the planet! I remember a coworker of mine telling me stories of how he and some friends used to jump off of the cars with flashlights while inside and do some "extra spooking" of people as they came through...lol! This was back in the late '70s and very early '80s. Thanks for sharing this video! I really enjoyed it!
Now if you try to pull that off you'd probably get trespassed for getting off a moving vehicle or going backstage
I paused it to check out those roller skates before you mentioned them at the end! This was an interesting experience, enjoyed the video.
They used to have a skating rink there that got damaged by flooding and closed in the 80s.
@@JPVideos81 Ah, so maybe those skates are a rental pair from back then...and that set-up is their way of paying homage to the old rink. That's neat.

What really looks unique about it is that it's not some overly commercialized mainstream attraction such as you'd find in Disney. It appears as if normal people creatively made it on their own.
And most of the items are repurposed or made in house.
love dark rides. i miss the wacky shack on hunts pier in wildwood and the pirate ship. awesome dark rides. glad to see the golden nugget ride from wildwood got new life as the black diamond at knoebels

I remeber that haunted house I used to have a panic attack when the water hit at the end

Thanks for letting us seeing with the lights on. Every time I go there the line is really long and I don't want to waste the time, so I pass. The last time I went through it was about three years ago. My twins just graduated from High School and are moving away so even though I live an hour from Knoebels (Orwigsburg, PA) I don't have a reason to go there anymore. Knoebels is one of the greatest gems here in Pennsylvania.
Its best to ride it the first hour of opening.
