  • Back Row POV on Flying Turns at Knoebels. Flying Turns is a type of roller coaster that was first introduced in the 1920s. It is characterized by a bobsled-like car that runs on a track with no rails, and is instead guided by a series of banked turns and twists. The ride took many years to perfect and open.
Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, Pennsylvania is home to a popular Flying Turns roller coaster, which was designed to replicate the original ride from the 1920s. The coaster consists of two-person carts that slide and spin as they move along the track, providing riders with a thrilling and unique experience. The ride is known for its smooth and fast-paced movements, as well as its nostalgic design that harkens back to the early days of amusement park rides.

I love this ride, but fair warning to those watching the video, the action of the trains is dependent on the weight of the riders, so your experiences may be different than what you see in the video. but yes, like the guy says, this ride is awesome!

Knoebles is the most unique park in the US. It's free to go in and free to park and they have an area where you can camp. They have an rv area but also a place you can tent camp with full facilities for those campers. You can also rent cabins there. If parents are sick of the park there is an 18 hole golf course which is quite difficult. Lowest I ever shot there was 82 and I have a pretty low handicap. Also has the largest pool I've ever seen, it's like an acre big with all kinds of slides. Park also has a creek running right through it, you can fish inside the park but there are 100s of creeks and lakes for quality fishing for the sportsman. Plus they have kick ass rides. The wooden roller-coaster The Phoenix is voted in the top 10 wooden roller-coasters in the world every single year.

If that sign says it’s a safe ride, that’s all I need to know! Lol… I’m just glad that amusement parks have maintenance crews for each ride who is trained and experienced on that certain ride and is done daily, even gets checked during the day and there’s sensors on rides so the person on the control panel knows if there’s any problems or an emergency right away and they have the controls to stop the ride immediately. I’ve been going on roller coasters since the late 70s, there bigger and scarier now than then but I still love a fun roller coaster ride and when I turn the big 6-0 in November, I’m going to Six Flags in here California, to get on all the roller coasters! @@HappyGirl92593 Thank you for your comment. My comment wasn't about safety--it was about maintenance, failure points and down time. The more possible failure points, the more possible down time.
The Flying Turns was built like a tank. The track was rock solid. It's unlikely that a failure of a car would have resulted in sever injury or death (just a lot of road rash). I'm not aware if that ever happened, but I sure wish I could have gone on the flying turns before it closed. Euclid park had a great history, but it ended when the original owner passed. His family didn't know how to innovate or invest. :( Euclid should never die in the history of amusement parks.) It was a great innovator. As I recall, the rocket cars (circling silver rocket cars) was created at Euclid. The Euclid Steeple Chase (fast merry-go-round) Ride was sold to Cedar Point--it's a marvel and I'm in awe about how beautiful the rides is. Much love, my fellow coaster park enthusiast. I hope you have more opportunities to do what we both love. I've aged out of the most extreme rides but can still ride some really fun coasters.

There’s been a lot of roller coaster disasters and I’m not aware if there were any that happened with this ride. It seems very safe and the people who designed and constructed it were focused on keeping the ride safe enough so it’d stand the test of time and not be demolished within a few years after being built. And it worked!

No there hasn't I'm a local. Except when they were building it it was delayed for like 3 years to work out safety issues. Since it opened no accidents. The only accident ever at Knoebles was a mentally challenged person freaked out on the skylift that takes you across the park and jumped or fell. He survived though.

They had issues with jack knifeing during testing but that was with different cars they never used. The current cars never had issues.

It would take a lot of thought and contemplation to build such a coaster. I laughed as I watched it too. Great video.

It took years for the park to build it to specs and finally open it, but it was worth it. There's nothing quite like it in the whole country.

There is a mini train ride there that takes you out into the Pennsylvania forest land that you might appreciate. Even has it's own train tunnel.

I'm old, how have i never heard of this? I'm no engineer, but that thing looks way overbuilt. Which of course is better than the alternative. But, damn, that's built like a train.

This park is straight out of RCT. A chairlift that goes up a hill for no reason. Obscure ride types like this that the park built themselves. Food stalls in the shape of the food they sell.
It’s rct you can’t tell me otherwise

I've always said this. Not to mention, a train going under a wooden coaster that has a zig-zag lift hill that's split in half, and a car ride going under another wooden coaster. Plus, the carousel and organ music. I could go on.

Should have been there 20 years ago. You could have seen all the adults around the kiddie rides puffing away on their Marlboros. It was worse than a jazz club. No sense for the health of the kids. Insane.
