@@OfficialRingWurmRacing how'd your bike build go bud? I was 10 years old when I got my first bike which was a 25 year old 1980 Honda cr80 at the time for 100 bucks with a blown top end. Me and my dad got it running and I loved that bike so much. A few years later and new bike I started racing motocross and cross country. I miss those days alot and to this day I regret ever getting rid of that thing. I'd love to do a restoration on it now that I'm older.

Replace the exhaust cam with HotCams with autodecompression and make sure valves are in spec. I also did the bog mod on the carb, and give it 2 good rotations on the throttle to get the fuel pump to spray in some gas, pull out the choke, and I can crank my 01 YZ426f in 3 or 4 kicks every time when cold.

Just some advice... When you have a bike that hasn't been started in that long, First thing you should do is buy a new spark plug, No matter how nice it looks. Get some fresh oil and a filter that's specific for the bike you have. Drain the coolant and flush the radiators and put some fresh antifreeze in it. Drain whatever's in the gas tank and get some fresh super gasoline. Clean and oil/ Buy a new air filter. Take the carb apart and thoroughly clean it. And never hold the throttle wide open when kicking a 4 stroke. Glad u got it to run thou. Be safe out there riding man!

RAYMOONDOE 215 I really feel the same way. I'm actually very good at this myself and I can spot "talentlessnes" from a mile away and this is the good stuff. There is allot of videos with people who think they are good enough to be teaching when they for a trained eye are are fooling senseless around. I think it is a product of having told that all they do is good by the parents mixed with a high degree of narcissism and the believer that they will be TH-cam starts. It actually irritates something out of me because it can bring people who want to do a good job allot of headaches when all they do is trying to get knowledge and learn how to do it right. This guy is not trying too he is good. I will add that there are allot of other guys that are very skilled but they hide between allot of other " bad word" stuff.

little late now but make sure to completely take apart your carb. after removing the bowl you will find 4 more screws on each corner that allows you to remove the mid section of the carb giving you access to a couple more jets. Make sure the carb shoots fuel into the engine when the throttle is opened up and hope your pilot jet is still set from factory.. if it still wont start check spark and timing.. Last but not least the 450 cam mod is a must have for these bikes.

4 strokes can be an asshole to start, especially when hot.
My old Honda CRF 450 took me over 20 kicks to get started at the side of a track, when it was hot!

Because the yz400f was enough since at the time 550cc where still been allowed to race but yamaha uped the displacement to 426cc knowing others were aiming at the 400f so they did to buy time they simply went to a bigger bore 95mm vs 92mm for 400f since to get to 450 it needed to be stroked also so they waited till 03 when the ama lowered the limit to 450cc to make the new engine

He also knocked about $77,000 off of the price for me too! I got it for $13,200. I cant take $77,000 depreciation hits again and again so I stay out of the way and let it hit other people. I got my YZ426 for $850 and I love it too. I enjoy nice things but I enjoy them more when I get a killer deal.

to fix those dented 2 stroke pipes, plug one end of the header, fill it with water and stick a pressure washer in the other side with some rubber around the end and pull the trigger just give it a blip or two till the dent is mostly or completely gone. dont hold it too long or youll pop the pipe like a balloon but youll know when to stop well before hand

btw i know its late but these bikes are very hard to start , ive owned one and theres a method to getting it started first kick. i believe it was with a certain combo of using the decompression lever and kick it over 2 3/4 times before the kick start gets it going everytime!

To get the spark plug out you use a rubber hose that fits over the white part of the plug and you finish unscrewing it and pull it out with the hose .

I like how it rides. It's fast, but not quite as nimble or refined as a new bike, which is ok with me. It's hard to say how bad the motor is until you get it apart. How did the valve get stuck? Did it mess up the piston?

Old ass video but I just got one of these and I’m running through it just like this reviving it. I’m having trouble with the throttle cable adjustment and was hoping you explained how you did it. Hope the thing will run when I’m done.

defianetly clean the air filter and your idle/stalling problems or any bogging or hanging of the idle is all in the carburetor!. The jet sizes and fuel screw and idle screw etc.. If you adjust those perfectly your bike will run 99 times better! for a couple dollars in jets and like 3 hours. Also here are a few things you should do to the bike (I'm telling you this because this is what you should do when you buy a used bike): Clean/ re-grease the linkage, bleed the front brakes, change out the radiator fluid, set the suspension to your weight and riding style (tutorials on youtube), change rear brake fluid, clean/lubricate the throttle and clutch cable. Then heres some things I noticed: Replace the rims, spokes, rotors, chain and sprockets, re-pack the silencer, new plastics/graphics, new grips. And by the way don't run water in your radiator!!! Use something like maxima racing coolant or something. Also, replace the fork seal. And then any rusty bolts whatsoever on the bike should be replaced with new ones. And finally get a new front and rear axle. That should do the trick! Then get riding and enjoy!

Boy. I deal mostly with 70s bikes. It's kind of shocking to see what looks to me like a "brand new" bike to be in old, neglected, vintage condition. The march of time is truly relentless.

always put gas in the piston, when it sat awhile, sure bet to get the gas flowing. i fix up bikes also, i found that a little painting oft he frame, makes it look new.and the paint usually cost a buck, good job though.

All that kickstarting and sore foot reminds me why I traded my yz450 for a drz400. Electric start and street legal plates on a dirt bike is awesome. Of course you need to throw the cv carb in the trash and put the keihin carb on it.

Also never go against compression on any bike especially 4 strokes they tend to kick back at you alot so use the hot start to help you out with starting it or compression releaser

Your meant to find top dead center (TDC) using the decompression leaver - Hold the small black leaver in while you kick it a few times - Once you've found TDC then you hold in the clutch and give it a good kick. From what I saw you were just trying to kick it without first decompressing the engine. Pulling the cold start out helps too.

    • @reganmorben9248
      @reganmorben9248 ปีที่แล้ว

INCORRECT> You want to find 10 degrees past TDC then kick it.
He was using the decompression lever but I'd say he was only like 3 or 4 degrees past TDC.
Also my 2002 426 likes about a dozen full click throttle blips, the choke out, 10 degrees past TDC, and then kick it.
It starts 1st, 2nd, or 3rd kick EVERY time.
** Look up "Blue Wire Mod for 426"** I believe it disables the neutral safety sensor (totally unnecessary on this bike) which gives you another volt or 2 to the ignition, it really helps.

we're spoiled these days. i just started riding again last year after being out of it since about 2005 and i jumped into auto decomp and fuel injection. i skipped over all the difficulties of starting 4 strokes. now if only they would put an auto choke on them. pulling that knob out is a real pain haha.

Great video, really enjoyed watching it. If you could in future video's put any links you have in your vids in the comments. There is a large number of people on youtube that turn off the onscreen annotations. It helps us from having to turn the back on and try to find the section in the video with the links. I didn't even know about the second video until i turned them back on.

Hey useful peice of advice I own a 2001 yz426f and I had the same problem be4 as well... what I did with mine when it got fludded just turn your gas off and lean the bike over until the gas in the carb drains out... turn your gas back on then it should start within 2 to 3 kicks

you probably found the answer to this but it not idleing is most likely the pilot jet being clogged, I dont know if that bike has a hot start but if that is letting in any false air that could also cause the bike not to idle as well.
