Saturday Night fever was a low budget movie planned by the studio as a rehearsal for their big movie, Grease. Starred young unknown John Travolta. But the Bee Gees music made it a block buster. Scheduled for release in a modest number of theatres, demand swiftly expanded that number. Staff often had to cope with movie goers dancing in the aisles.
It’s so different watching your reaction!! The black people who do reactions say they have never heard this song before but as soon as the music starts they quickly pause and say, “oooooh!!! This is that song that’s on all those black movies!” Then when they actually see the brothers on the screen they quickly pause again and say, “wait!! You mean these guys are white!?!” Bee Gees stands for Brothers Gibb!! These 3 used to sing in their room as young boys when Barry was 6 and the twins were 3 and their mother used to think her sons were listening to the radio!! You need to check out songs they wrote for others too! My favorite is the song Immortality which was written for and recorded by Celine Dion!
I love your videos. And your reactions are brilliant I was a kid of the 70s and 80 s great time to be alive remember this so well the disco days. God Bless you
They had "1st fame" as they called it in the late 60s , when they left Australia and went back to London. Several hits followed. SNF was another level, even they didn't expect it.
It is absolutely true that "Stayin' Alive" is the perfect tempo for performing chest compressions when giving CPR. The title is also apropos. Unfortunately, the other song which has the correct tempo, has a rather unfortunate title as far as CPR is concerned: it is "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. Hahaha!
When I did a CPR course the guy said please don't use the Queen song because the last thing the family of someone having a heart attack wants to hear is someone doing cpr start singing another one bites the dust
“That is a different type of greatness right there”, no truer statement !! You need to check out their early stuff not just the disco. Fanny be Tender, my favorite.
Love your joy--new subscriber! Also --I LOVE your openness about loving Jesus... and I'm a fan of the Bee Gees too--born in '72 & grew up hearing them!!
This came out when I was 13, and harkens me back to Saturday nights at the roller rink. "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is an all-skate..."
Barry and his wife Linda will celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary this year on September 1st which is also Barry's birthday and they've been together for 55 years. God bless them and you Devin.
Barry Gibb apparently had never heard the term 'Disco' when he wrote this, he said it - and the whole album it was on - was an R&B song. If you read the lyrics it is, 'Lifes going nowhere, somebody help me, somebody help me yeah' is the repeated chorus for example. Then there is their earlier work like ''I gotta get a message to you' which is about a condemned man walking to his execution giving the prison Chaplin his last message for his soon to be widow. Their 60s work is good but very not disco.
Just SUBSCRIBED!!! YAY 😁🤗😆, I just came across your video reaction of The Bee Gees, anyone that can smoothly roll into this magical music, Well then I've gotta give em a chance!! If ever music for the Movies desrved an Oscar it was the Saturday Night Fever medley. The fact that it missed does not reflect well on the Oscar process.
The Bee Gees have been singing together since they were children back in Australia. They hit number 1 as teens before heading back to Great Britain to join the upswing of music created by the Beetles. They joined the same company and hit it big there. Their individual manager split from the company and took them with him. Through ups and downs they dabbled with R&B. Moved to Florida. Hooked up with Arif Mardin who worked with black R&B artists such as Aretha Franklin. Changed their sound which is noticeable in their song “Jive Talkin.” Their careers once again surged upward. Started using the falsetto in the album “Main Course.” That album was a success. Went to France to work on another album and ended up creating songs that their manager took and used in his upcoming movie called “Saturday Night Fever.” Their music was dubbed “disco “ at this point. They didn’t agree. They felt it was R&B. The movie and soundtrack was a smash hit in America and beyond. That was just the first half of their career. So much more follows. You may want to watch a documentary to get it all in.
You have the greatest reactions! I can feel them down to my bones. They are priceless and you are adorable. If I were 20 years younger and you were single, mannnnnnn...
I love your reactions 👍 Barry has an amazing voice but you should hear "Massachusetts" singing lead by Robin and "Closer than closer" singing lead by Maurice 😍👍
Just to let you know, this song and More than a woman,How deep is your love,If Icant have you and Night Fever were written in under a week when told that they needed these songs for Saturday Night Fever with an urgent deadline. Multiply the talent by one thousand!
They're best known for their disco music, but they're extremely versatile, with a couple of songs one could easily mistake for the Beatles singing. Thanks for your reaction.
Thanks Devin. I was 18 in 1978 and I was a "closet case" Bee Gees fan like many others. It wasn't cool to like disco, hard rock dominated. The disco craze only lasted a few years however the music is everlasting. It got young white boys like myself out of the basement and into the disco where the ladies were. Thank you disco and to the Bee Gees who led the way!
Stayin Alive saved a lot of people. That CPR beat. I’m not sure why you are being blocked by TH-cam because I have watched many reactions on The Bee Gees.

A couple of corrections: They are British. They were born on the Isle of Mann. The family moved to Australia when they were young. They spent the rest of their childhood there and then moved back to England to hop onto the British Explosion and expand their career opportunities. Maurice is pronounced Morris. I love your reaction. 🙂
Love the BeeGees reactions; “rabbit hole” is correct!! They wrote or performed over 100 top ten hits; across nearly ALL genres of music. Check out “Fanny Be Tender(with my love) And “Nights on Broadway” two of my favorites!! Also, I believe I may have asked before, but you MUST react to Steelheart’s “She’s Gone” or “I’ll Never Let You Go”; the lead vocalist “Mike” Miljenko Matejevic is simply incredible; his vocal range is in the stratosphere! You carry yourself like prior service; would I be correct in that assumption? Pop into my channel if you get time brutha, I’m just getting it started though. So, have you seen "Saturday Night Fever" yet? You should. This song is played in the opening scene with John Travolta walking down the street in NYC. It's so fitting, the young Travolta strutting his stuff.
OMG Saturday Night Fever was one of those phenomenons that changed the world; it’s like saying you haven’t seen the Godfather. It’s streaming somewhere, go watch it!
Don't even do the Disco times, they had so many more hits than those. Jive talkin, Nights on Broadway, how do you mend a broken heart, words, More than a woman, tragedy, Fanny pretender with my love, Massachusetts, Run to me., And thousands of more incredible hits. There's a movie coming out on them November 2022 same person that did Bohemian Rhapsody. They deserve proper Justice. They were the third biggest selling group ever. They were probably the best harmonizing group we will ever see. Nobody could write lyrics like those guys. They're the gods of Harmony.,💯🎼🎸❤️
