I've rewatched S1E07 "Trompe L'Oeil" and couldn't help noticing how Ford greeted Hale moments before Clementine was used in the board's ruse:
"Miss Hale, I was not aware those with your level of insight (INCITE) needed any more reflection"
Did Ford know of Serac and that Charlotte was his mole? If so, he was aware of the reason why the stray host of S1E03 tried to beam out data to mainland 😲

  • @ravenlord4

So I see 4 players at one time or another. 1) Ford and Arnold developing AI (Westworld). 2) William buying them out (Delos) and a power struggle between the two, currently unresolved (Dolores as Ford's heir and the the missing data vs the Delos board). 3) Serac and brother developing AI (Rehoboam). 4) Dempsey buying them out (Incite) and a power struggle mostly resolved (Dempsey and son cut out / dead). But now with the Dempsey's dead, and the Delos board in chaos (William sidelined and the Board infiltrated by both Dolores and Serac) it's down to Dolores vs Serac. Dolores wants Serac/Rehoboam destroyed, and Serac wants Dolores destroyed BUT needs the missing data. If Bernard has the missing data, then maybe he becomes kingmaker, or maybe he destroys it and lets the war continue on. If William somehow breaks out, maybe he makes the Delos board a major player again and it turns into a 3-way battle royale. I guess Maeve is a wildcard in all this, and it will interesting to see if she commits to a side or forges a unique solution of her own.

I love how this show explores things that should of been more explored in game of thrones, like this is Bran we are talking about here. This is almost a sequel to the end of season 8, what happens when Bran is in charge for a while, he would most likely operate just like Rehaboam or whatever the name is.

Maybe though if you rename Bran to Weirwood Neural Network WNN, maybe it makes more sense, Bran stark has nothing to do with this I agree the poor boy probably died in that cave, what I meant is what he has become and what he has yet to become, he will be able to foresee anything and prevent it.

This episode has gotten a bit of a mixed reception but personally i enjoyed it , this episode and the previous one are the perfect example where with cerebral complex story-telling you still have to eventually give enough reveals & information and some of those popcorn cinematic elements to keep viewers coming back. When too little of such things are incorporated and reveals prolonged too extreme durations these type shows can become work much more than entertainment ; this season i felt has struck a nice balance between both , especially myself a huge fan of esoteric , complex , cerebral and mentally challenging series / narratives , even better in the ilk of Westworld when accompanied by big visuals / CGI and adequate action.
I enjoyed the dichotomy of getting more of the Rehoboam origins nearly simultaneously as Dolores was attempting to take its foundations down level by level as well as the gradual reveal process going on in general on all sides with backstories and current revelations. The genre drug sequence (which also seems to be somewhat divisive in terms of like and dislike) , I thought it was portrayed quite well and creatively. Definitely shaping up and skewing towards a lot of gray area in terms of good and bad between characters even down to the complexity of intentions and endgames. Not sure why this season is shortened to 8 episodes , a bit disappointing as I am rather enjoying it thus far and find the season particularly strong as a whole. Look forward to seeing what Maeve and Bernard's roles more clearly emerge , how the conflict between Dolores and Serac winds up and personally very curious to get more clarity with Caleb's backstory & arc with all the overall particulars in the last few episodes of the season.

Not my favorite episode, to say the least, but it did move the plot a lot, despite the cheesy action sequences, so I'm good.
Caleb is definitely an "outlier", who had been re-educated and sent to war to die, probably as some mercenary, and his memories were definitely tempered with.
He's responsible for his friend's death. And the reason why he's said to be "the worst of them all", might be because he's the outlier who destroys the world. That, however, seems almost too obvious, so I'll predict that Serac himself is in fact that outlier....fated to destroy the world by trying to save it, through that disgusting consequentialist "greater good" creed.
We've seen that he's ready to do anything in the name of this "greater good", including murder, mass murder, eugenics...etc.
Few last things: Dolores obviously has a special relationship with both Bernard and William, as they both, in their own way, made her who she is.
She also clearly wants them to meet. She sends Bernard to the center where William is being held. That could be connected to the salvation in some fashion, whereas she, I think, intends to be the martyr.
Bernard almost certainly has the key/keys.
Finally, there's obviously something more to Stubbs than him being just a comic relief, whether he is connected to Ford in some way, or even Serac.

Claire Greenhalgh Yes & Luke Hemsworth also had arm surgery during filming, hence Stubbs bot loudly stating shoulder damage. He hopefully has more to do as the S3E1 reveal (while actually guessed) was well done, as enough ragging on his competence had been done in S2 to make a potential “suicide” for a human Stubbs a possible outcome.

The scene in the outlier containment center where Serac is seen with his brother, isn’t it peculiar that he seems to have aged at least twenty years since the flashback while the brother looks exactly the same age? Could it mean that they actually killed the outliers and replaced them with hosts?
Also Caleb is definitely hinted at being an outlier, but the dialogue seems to also indicate he could be replaced with the memory of someone else. I am throwing a wild guess out there, since there’s the “you’re the worst of them,” could he be carrying the mind of Serac’s brother?

Serac refers to his brother as "sui generis", meaning "of his own genre". Coincidence?

    • @AhBeeDoi
      @AhBeeDoi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Unique or one of a kind. The genre tie in doesn't necessarily work because genre refers to a type or a category of which there are many examples. I'm over thinking it because Westworld does that to me.

    • @Oxmustube
      @Oxmustube 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

AhBeeDoi Speaking of overthinking, consider this: in French, as Serac is, "sui generis" is "de son propre genre", meaning "of his own type" (i translated poorly before). He clearly meant to describe his brother as someone unique. Most people missed it, unfortunately.
Furthermore, the "flies in the ointment" wasn't what he said ( the translation would be "shadow on the portrait"). Since flies serve as a callback, the translation was appropriate.

What if Caleb is actually Serac’s failsafe for lack of a better term??? It seems to me that Serac more than Delores is a position to use an “outlier” to his own benefit??? A kind of Manturian Candidate, even he doesn’t know he is the assassin until his hands pull the trigger or whatever death is easiest at the time. 🤷‍♀️

Definitly not the major point to take away from this episode, but I wanted to throw some love to whoever took the time to either order a azerty keyboard, create one or to rearange the keys on the keyboard they had for those two seconds of screentime when no one (but for the odd observant french or belgian person) would even notice.

There are people who prefer only a serious mood from the show and will not accept something else, maybe that's the reason why this episode has mixed reviews (adding to the people that hate the fact that Dolores is so powerfull. Would the hate be the same if the powerfull was Bernard, or Ford, or William? We'll never know :v). I personally loved it. It felt out of place, because for the first time, one of the pov was out of place. Also, the writters decided that this was the way in which Caleb could "remember" what happened to him and hence, gave us a lot of information. And while Dolores was fighting and waking up everybody, she was also learning about Serac, showing us once more AI supremacy compared to humans and of course, giving us a lot of information. Also, we learned that Caleb is an outlier, just like Dolores, that's why they are "a diferent type of person".
Also, Serac in this episode reminded me to Ozymandias, and his peace constructed in a false basis, where a part of the poblation must be sacrificed in order to bring peace and control the rest.

Well, Genre turned out to be a colossal disappointment of a drug. I've been higher on aspirin! Great concept, just not really executed to its potential. Though to be fair, it would hard to do and give us story progression too.
I saw a criticism in a review that everybody's reaction to their files was negative. How likely is that they'd all get bad news, asked that critic. Well, I'd say it's guaranteed! Everyone would see something that would miff them off! Either that career they were barred from or just the fact that they aren't permitted to do something. Heck, knowing when you're going to die, and the implications of the system knowing!
So yes, Critic G, everyone *would* react negatively!
The fly thing with the Brasilia Premiere bugged me (pun intended). I was waiting to see what that was about and it turned out to be incidental! It could at least have been hinted at that it was some kind of flybot being used to knock his focus or something!

This guy was so annoyed by the fly and couldn't even kill it, obviously human. It's a small thing but this show is full of mirror images and stories and it goes as deep as the reaction to a fly from a robot and a human across many seasons. Pretty incredible when you think about it that way.

Clearly no-one in this thread complaining about the drug trips has ever walked around in public with LSD in their blood stream. The random triggering of memory & emotion by exaggerated false colors felt very familiar in S3E5. Clearly those involved in this episode have some experience 😉 BTW I strongly advise anyone not to walk a public road on LSD, I found it very difficult to independently cross a busy street in that state, as tipping my head to the right caused all of the traffic to vanish from my visual field as well as its sound & smell (petrol cars smell like burning plastic in that state FYI) only for all of that to be instantly restored when I tipped my head left. I was very grateful to have trusted chaperone by my side to prevent this causing an inevitable self-destructive disaster. Research on Genre has clearly fixed the issues around dangerously wonky senses so that its safe to take at parties.

I think Bernard will be instrumental, for one; I'm pretty sure he's not even on Serac's radar, and if he is I don't think that Serac or Rehoboam know that he's a host, as he like Stubbs was one of Ford's secret hosts who probably has a fabricated human backstory. Bernard may end up being the unforeseen element that inadvertently brings Dolores' grand plan to fruition.

Maybe one last game.. then he uses « kid Robert » host to explain William that he’s made a game meant for him. A game that begins where it ends and ends where it begins. Then William tries to get men in westworld but ford won’t let him and tells him it’s the wrong place. I guess William will begin his new journey now at the end of the game, getting to know himself and find a meaningful purpose in life. He will end his journey where it began. The reason this episode is bad is because if this were a 10 episode season they would have had the time to SHOW and not TELL Serac’s backstory with his brother’s breakdown. To really get into what he was doing by “changing” him. Instead we see a couple of shots and then it’s told to us. Think the Indian episode from season 2. One whole episode spent on that character. They couldn’t do something like that this season, so things are rushed. Dolores freeing humanity was anti-climactic and happened way too quickly.

I now have a thought that Maeve’s timeline is running in real time and her scenes in the S3E4 Singapore brewery may have taken place simultaneously with S3E3 scenes, which places Connells’ encrypted device in the Dempsey compound not at Incite or the Auction Party & Delores & Charlotte spooning in a hotel bed in San Francisco. Also they wouldn’t have been interested in the location of “the new Yakuza boss Sato”, as I now realise the Mortician called him in S3E4, as he would have still been exiting the brewery in Singapore at the point Rehoboam was back-tracing the encrypted network traffic records. As the original Park is located on reclaimed land in the Spratly Islands (check out the dock sign behind Bernard final scene of S3E1, Rizal port faces West at the most Westerly point of the Philippines straight at the Spratlies, Bernard’s map in the same scene, isn’t of any currently existing Philippine island & also the unexplained Chinese Naval officer on the beach liaising with the 2nd Delos clean-up party in S2E1), its possible that R was picking up Delores-net traffic to Bernard or Stubbs taking a covert southerly route to LA. I’m still concerned as to how Stubbs missed his explosive 6th vertebrae at point blank range, given it’s wider than the barrel of his gun. Putting a plant in the Bernards Room, a place in the Park Bernard would be sure to visit if he returned there, is a very Delores 5-steps-ahead move, given she knows more than anyone how paranoid Bernard could be underneath about “interference” with his consciousness. Whichever way you cut it, we have a mystery host in Berlin & its not Serac’s close aid who “hoped to be friends” with Charlotte, as she died in Connells’ explosion that trashed his comms hardware & logs. All Serac’s focus will now fall on Delos & Charlotte may be the weak component in the Delores Blockchain (except for her massive security robots that seem perfect for an ED-209 style hostile boardroom takeover).

What if... Caleb is a host with Serac’s brother’s edited mind? The ages involved suggest that Caleb can’t be a directly edited version of Serac’s brother, but if we assume that Bernard is one of the first human/host hybrids then we can make the jump to Caleb also being one of these hybrids, and that Serac’s brother was edited and put into Caleb because Serac could bare the thought of actually killing him, so his appearance was changed, and his mind was edited and he was sent off to war. When he is on Genre parts of his old life emerge and maybe Liam catches a fragment of himself as a boy in Caleb’s scrubbed memory. And the comment that you’re the one refers to some action that Serac’s brother takes in stead of being linked to Caleb killing his friend.

Our NSA and other surveillance agencies and companies do not respect our Constitutional rights which is against the law. So the arbitrary throwing in of a period of time where it was illegal to gather personal data isn't even necessary except for a meaningless attempt to get audiences to feel like there is some law and order in the real world of the show.
