I knew personal-luxury coupes were dead when this car a facelift alongside the Impala's full reskin. They used to do that with station wagons, but the coupe was supposed to be the style leader.
i cant believe all these people comparing a vehicle that is aimed to a more mature and executive type of person to brands and cars that aim mostly to young car buyers. that is why chevy made the cobalt because it hauls ass from a little 4 cylinder and matches these V8s come on you just cant go wrong with the feeling of a V8 its so much more refined to anything shorter than 6 cylinders. just look at the generations of the monte and it has come a long way. its a really nice car.
I had an 07 Monte SS for five years and loved it. Torque steer like a bitch when you really punch it, but damn that thing would get up and go. The big problem is that they put pretty much the same transmission they put in all Monte Carlos since 2000 which was inferior to start out with, but really had problems with all the Torque that LS4 put out. Had to replace the torque clutch converter at 90K miles, and really needed a transmission rebuild at 100K... so I just traded it in.
I got an 06 Monte SS with 92000 miles on it. I'm the third owner and I enjoy this car. The only thing I really don't like his the front wheel drive and the dash is coming loose on top of a little bit. Other than that, I really think I made a good purchase $8500, 3 yrs ago.
now take into consideration the cobalt is also a very nice car its a mini monte that can ride along side with no problem. but you have to know the feeling of the V8 and chasis to appreciate these kinds of cars. without a doubt the generations from buick, pontiac, chevy, and oldsmobile things just got better in 2005 to 2008 short lived but good while lasted and will soon come back. just watch. but thank you gm for making such fine automobiles and bringing back true american feeling.
@SIASJJ14 Even BEFORE I overrided the governor chip I could still tap out the cluster at 140mph,with the RPM's still going,till about 145mph-150ish before the governor chip would engage.
GM certainly did the V6/V8 power train better than anyone in the early 2000s.... these cars were making power that rivals some of today's turbo cars...
2:17, "DonRome" strut bars handle this issue with ease especially with lowering "SSC springs" which I recommend on a lot of vehicles.......this package total: $269.00 ;-)
I had an 03 SS which was a 200hp 3.8L V6, and I currently have an 06 monte carlo but its the optional 3.9L 242hp V6. Honestly even the 3.9L isn't bad. 0-60 in 7 flat while the 03 SS was 8.5 seconds. So if you want one of these, consider getting the 3.9L(2006 only in montes) because Honestly its still pretty fun to drive. Its not the quickest thing out there but it will hang with more cars than you think. The base 3.5L is 215hp but has ling gear ratios so its more of a commuter car with the looks of a monte. They still aren't terrible at all but you might be disappointed quite a few times if you want to play around with other cars.
I had an ‘03 LS and it was fine. It had a sunroof and black leather interior also. When I brought it needed a front end. I found somebody parting out a SS and got everything from there. I had the car repainted Dove Grey and had no issues afterwards. I sold it with about 150k and the guy told me it was the best car he had so far. I would’ve brought another one but the next car I got was a p71 Crown Victoria. The 5.3 versions of these cars and other GM with the same power train were as frequently on the road back then as the chargers and challengers are today.
@mycity313 - my overall lifetime mileage is just under 20 total ... taking off from lights with a light foot will net you 5-10 mpg until you hit 40 or 50 ... once it kicks into 4 cyl mode its possible to get upwards of 28-32 depending on intake/ exhaust/ tire pressure and everything else ... last long drive i did was near 1000 miles from GA to IL and from my calculations i got around 28-30 mpg for the whole trip ... stock intake and worn out tires

I own a Black on Black rim's with chrome lip 2006 Monte Carlo SS has my weekend driver or 2nd car. Check out my track vid's. I've never taken the SS with the new and lighter rim's and with the new MSD set up and tire's.
They do have really weak transmissions considering the torque and hp, if you change it every 30k with oem fluid they can last a good 185-200k but you can't romp on it as fun as it is.
