I own the exact same silver one got as a gift from my uncle, it was his first car and after 16 years in the sun collecting dust he gifted to me and I'm so happy I have one, I named her Ghost. 🚗
I really hate that GM made these into fwd cars. They would've been WAY more popular, especially amongst most project car guys had these cars stayed rwd. You can only image the 6.0, 6.2, LSX swaps, ect. that guys would've been doing to these cars now. Imo, if GM would've kept Monte Carlo a rwd car, they would've been able to better compete with/continue the popularity of older 80s G-Body Monte Carlos these days. GM seriously hurt the potential of these cars when they decided to go the fwd route.
I absolutely agree! Although I could imagine that Pontiac might have difficulty with the 6.0 G8 GT competing so closely to a 5.3 GXP. But if these were RWD and with a better tranny, I can imagine they would have been a drastically more mainstream hit. 😎
That would have been nice, more options and internal competition can be good for business and improving innovation! I would have loved a Pontiac (Holden) Ute, maybe someday I’ll try to buy an imported one, or buy a left handed Ute built in Colorado. That’s if they come back into the orbit of a reasonable price. 😅
In their opinion they thought it was “superior” to rwd because of traction control. They explain this in the dealership videos for the car, you can watch online. I hope they understand that no one cares and rwd cars are more powerful and more fun to drive.
That sounds like a hard sell to me, lol. I drove an 07 6.0 Corvette today that I’ll post soon. As much as I enjoy the FWD v8 MC, the Corvette is in a completely different league. 😎

Every box for options was checked it was loaded completely out. At the time, my mom was 68 I guess she was having her second childhood. Well, couples years later, my mom passed away, and I bought the car out of the family estate. I put a cat back exhaust and a K&M air filter system. That car was fun to drive. Until I got a ticket going 91 and 65. And I figured I didn't need this car no more and I traded it in for pick up. That car was fast. After just putting simple modification I was pushing out almost three hundred and fifty horsepower. Also, when I traded it in, it had 60000 miles on it. And a little thing started going wrong, and I didn't feel like messing with it. All the A/C, heat, and defrost actuators were worn out and needed to be replaced. Don't get me wrong the car was fun to drive but I needed to pick up truck.
Just brought mines not too long ago. Never liked the refresh of 06-07 because of the front headlights looking like the impala. If my memory serves correct from over a decade ago, ZZP held the FWD drag strip record with a twin turbo GTP running mid 8’ at mid 160’s. How the heck they had the tranny to do that is beyond me. Lol.
I remember being a young GM tech in the late '00s. I was performing a recall one of these. It required a test drive. I was told by a seasoned tech to be careful with it specially on turns. I didn't listen and almost lost control turning on an intersection and stupidly gave it mild pressure on the accelerator. I thought I had experience with driving my 2000 Camaro V6. @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 No never. Can't buy it as I don't have garage. I park my 07 Pontiac G6 GT coupe on the street. I know it's a 6vcyl. Not an 8 but is still very reliable.
Dude, I have one of these, plus, I have a 2007 Impala SS. I can assure you of one thing & that there is NOTHING at all that is lethargic about these V8, W-Bodied cars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Automotive Anonymous it's pretty much new...about 28,000 miles. I had a brand new GM 5.3 installed too. There was nothing wrong with the old engine, I just wanted to replace it along with the transaxle at the same time. I still have the original engine. I love this Impala. It's the best car I've ever owned.
Dont forget the rare two year run of buick's lacrosse "super" with the same drive train. They made 2,416 total between both years. 2009 was the last year for the super. 139 made that includes the 16 allure supers for the canadian market. The rest of them were US spec supers so only 123 total. I have two of each year. A red jewel tintcoat 2008 lacrosse super thats 1 of 359 without a sunroof and is 1 of 498 in the red jewel tintcoat paint. The 2009 lacrosse super i have is 1 of 64 in the onyx black paint. It has every option you can think of. A teltale to the lacrose super is the 4 ventiports on each front fender and the flared rocker mouldings and rear fascia and another teltale is the foglights in the front lower grille. These cars are very dear to me having been blessed with two of them! They will hold their value as the years pass. These LS4 powered cars are unique between all 4. I like them all. These cars are really nice when you find a nice low mileage example of one videod here! Awesome straightforward review of this gorgeous monte carlo SS.
That’s awesome, your Supers sound like really cool and very rare rides! I loved these W body cars back when I was in high school, lol. For my year old channel this video took off quite a bit more than I had expected. I wish I was making it today where my video quality is already much better than 4 months ago when I made this video. I hope to find more clean LS4 cars to model in the years to come! Thanks for watching and sharing your insight and experiences! 🙂
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 My absolute pleasure! These are some beautiful cars! If you do end up finding a lacrosse super to review, that'd be awesome! Those cars aren't very well known. It's an old person's car with a V8 that is honestly very unsuspecting to the untrained eye. It'll keep up with scat pack chargers and challengers. It will however eat up any 5.7 hemi RT n charger/Challenger.
I have a 06 Monte Carlo LT and it is definitely one of the nicest ones in the country. I haven’t seen one as nice or in as good of condition as mine. Wash and wax it every Sunday, garage kept and baby the shit out of it. I just hit 96k miles
I had a 07 and I’m happy I got the aftermarket warranty because every 6 to 8 months I would need motor mounts because it has to much power for the front wheels . But I would but it again I miss it.
I have always liked these...FWD is fine to me because I know that the average driver can't handle advasive maneuvers in a RWD vehicle or drive one competently in bad weather.
I have an older friend who owned an 87 GN for almost 20 years and he said on occasion people had confused for a MC. I’m sure almost all car enthusiast of that era know the difference, but their platform and silhouette is very similar. 🤷♂️😅
You can review my 06 Monte Carlo LS, clean inside and out. I swear up and down my is the cleanest, with 98,000 miles on it and I got no damages. I love my monte. Definitely the funnest and weirdest car I drove
Really good looking car, the size, proportions, lines, curves, and angles are all on point. It really shouldn't be a sleeper but it is because it doesn't look fast besides being that generations Nascar body lines. It just doesn't look like a fast car but with the LS4 sitting over the drive wheels it has too hook up and move out pretty dang good.
Do a few light mods to the 4T65E tranny to better handle the torque out of that 5.3 and it should be a rather robust set up,,,other than being a little nose heavy. Cadillac and Oldsmobile had FWD big blocks with around 400hp back in the late '60s and early '70s (455 Olds V8, 472 and 500 Cadillac V8 all running through a Turbo Hydramatic 425 tranny).
I once drove one and as not knowing what it was because it was a rental car, it shocked me as to how much acceleration it had that it put a smile on my face because it looked so plain on the outside. I did notice the SS badge but only thought it was cosmetic.
Being a Monte Carlo fanatic I failed to realize that this existed. Ive never saw this last MC here in Hawaii or ever. If I did I probably thought it was a Chevy Malibu SS or Chevy SS. Now Im a fan this 2006 model. I love how this looks. Great video and thank you for this knowledge.
Yeah, they exist, a big V8 FWD version as the last iteration of it, imagine that, lol. What’s your favorite year and spec of the MC? And thanks for watching. Im glad you found it! 🙂
Absolutely! They already engineered it, why not keep using it! In a larger vehicle with more room to work on it and a better transmission I can only imagine the aftermarket it could have had! There could have also been a FWD biased AWD system made if that was the case. 🙂
Off the light it was fast, but that's about it unfortunately. I blew the doors off one with my 3.1L Grand Prix. Poor guy's face when his limiter hit, and I walked right past him. New, the dealerships refused to discount them. They were plagued with transmission issues, mainly due to heat and too much torque ripping the trans apart. Worthwhile owning, but get a transmission cooler on it, but use caution when removing torque management - because you'll scatter the transmission.
Kind of a weird concept huh?! There were also a few generations of those Cadillac sedans with FWD Northstar 4.6 V8’s. And the late 90’s Ford Taurus Sho had a 3.4 V8 lol. I’m sure there might be more but those are the ones I’ve known about.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Cadillac Allante, Volvo XC90/S80, Lancia Thema 8.32, mid-90s Lincoln Continental, and the Oldsmobile Aurora to name a few more. Definitely a weird concept, especially the SHO's 3.4 and the Volvo's 4.4 because they're 60° instead of the usual 90°.
I know this is an old vid by now but would you say these cars are reliable even today? Thinking of getting one as a daily just cuz I want to wake up every morning to that engine🤤
Yeah, I think they’re reliable! The Engine is an LS, so it’s quite stout and a very simple/reliable design. Especially being a V8 without any cylinder deactivation nonsense that reduces reliability. But the transmissions aren’t overly reliable, but thankfully once it needs replaced you get get an affordable stronger rebuilt from say Triple Edge Performance and never have to worry about that again! Also, these cars are cheap. They never really held their value.
I’m glad I reviewed this video before thinking about getting it. Was upset I couldn’t find a classic or modable gm from the 90s or 2000s I like for a good price made me think about this but I don’t want a fwd. it’s a shame they made these cars or any ls4 fwd, just stupid.
Some people have actually started converting these cars and the earlier year W-Body cars into a RWD set up with the drive shaft going down a slightly modified exhaust tunnel. It’s pretty cool and something I never thought I’d get to see back when I owned a W-Body.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 yeah that’s sounds super cool if you know how to do something like that but I wanted to do my own swap lol. An f body Camaro or firebird would be an awesome option but the only problem is where the engine sits for me. It makes it harder to swap and if something goes wrong it’s not the easiest to service. So that’s why I’ve been looking around trying to see what’s the best car (gm) to swap that I can get for a cheap price in good condition that I can have fun with. PS the f bodies I’ve been looking at are v6 not v8 models it’s the reason why I did research to v8 swap them.
Not that I’m aware of. Some companies like ZZPerformance or the WBODY store do or use to sell upgraded transmission parts, but I’ve never heard of a transmission swap with one of these. Other than swapping a 3800 series 2 engine to the 5 speed manual in the rear mid engine Fiero. 😢
You didn't find one of the cooler easteregg features the back seat folds doun for long packages have had 3 of these and love them over 120000 miles two thums up
I believe you said this is the only LS4 FWD. Impala SS & Pontiac Grand Prix GXP had the same configuration. And don't forget the Buick Lacrosse & Lucerne also had an LS4. I sold new Chevys at the time when these came out and I later owned a Grand Prix GXP. That car handled way better then the Chevys and had way better seats. The side bolsters were huge and you felt planted in the seats. I later bought a GXP Bonneville. That had a Northstar V8. GM has been making FWD V8's since 1968 i think in a Toronado with 400hp and Cadillacs with 500lb ft of torque. They've kind of mastered it long ago as long their transmissions hold up.
I could be wrong, but I think I mentioned it being the W body platform was the only FWD LS4 with the Impala SS and GXP. But if I did forget thank you so much for adding that, and sharing even more past FWD V8 history with your experiences! 🙂
Do a review on the ultimate sleeper car either the Ford Taurus SHO or the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Rspec sedan. I have one if you need to use it for your review.
What state do you live in? Those cars aren’t often seen! I’ve driven two 3.5TT SHOs and use to really want one. With a tune they can run high 12’s. I also drove a Stinger GT AWD around that same time, less sleeper in appearance but definitely much quicker than a factory SHO. Never driven the 5.0 Rspec but they look cool! 🙂
I actually owned two 2007 Monte Carlo Super Sport with the 5.3 L v8. They were pretty nice and pretty quick but yeah the front wheel drive was kind of weird on them. I ended up trading my last Monte Carlo Super Sport for a Subaru Legacy 3.6R
These 4T65E / 4T65EHD transmissions were known to have trouble holding the stock or elevated power levels. I would recommend searching the forums of these W body cars to hear from current owners what their experiences have been. When I owned a 3.8 V6 car that I supercharged, the transmission was rebuilt right before I bought it at 113k miles, so no tranny problems while I had mine. 🙂
Pioneer Blue Tooth Flat Screen Nav Stereo includes a Back Up Camera and its great on the 07 MC! Now all my rides have Back Ups! Bought new Jan 2, 2007, 65K and going strong.
Probably could, with enough money and know how. But the G8 is such an awesome car I wouldn’t personally butcher a new one, but maybe a totaled one. I recently drove a cammed 2017 Chevy SS that I’ll make public in a while. I really like those Holden V8 cars, lol. 😍
Man I miss the SS trim, the Cobalt SS turbo was an amazing little car, they could have really made something cool with an SS Sonic (super sonic), the Cruze would have been cool with SS treatment... even the new Blazer, an SS to compete with the Jeep SRT
Absolutely!! I have a more modern review video of the Trailblazer SS with FBO that I’ll likely make public this month. Ohh, and a FBO/cam Chevy SS sedan. Those are some fun SS models haha. 🤪 Thanks for watching!!
Here's the thing: Yes they should've kept it rear wheel drive, but since they didn't, they really should've put the 4t80 instead of the 4t65hd. I'm knew that the 4t65 could be the weak link, even though mine made it to 300k before it started slipping behind a modified series 2 supercharged 3800 (for 200k of those miles) and get rid of that DOD. With that being said, id like the lacrosse super
It was at the Twin Falls Subaru about a year ago. They also had a V8 Impala a few months back but I wasn’t able to make it to town in time before it sold. They get some decent performance cars in.
I love the style of these but slightly prefer the more unique front end of the 00 to 05. This looks like they just slapped the 06 Impala front end on imo but it's still very attractive
Yeah, I get that, the previous gen does look great! Although I rarely see them, I did briefly ride in a supercharged 3.8 Riviera today, that was neat. I also published my 2000-05 Impala sleeper video today. Man, I love W-bodies lol. 🤩
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I owned a 96 supercharged Riviera. I really miss that car! Wish they still made personal luxury cars but I know they no longer sell. Nothing but SUVs & trucks now. Very disappointing
That’s awesome! A few days ago I made a video about the 2000-05 Sleeper potential with a bunch of cool footage from other peoples builds, I’ll make that one public within the next few weeks. 🙂

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 No never. Can't buy it as I don't have garage. I park my 07 Pontiac G6 GT coupe on the street. I know it's a 6vcyl. Not an 8 but is still very reliable.
Cool! I have a '01 Monte Carlo LS. Love to see this SS on here. Good stuff!
Im glad you’re enjoying yours! MC’s are sweet. 😎
W body for the win!! I miss my 2002 Impala, lol. How have your transmissions been holding up?
@Automotive Anonymous it's pretty much new...about 28,000 miles. I had a brand new GM 5.3 installed too. There was nothing wrong with the old engine, I just wanted to replace it along with the transaxle at the same time. I still have the original engine. I love this Impala. It's the best car I've ever owned.
Beautiful car. Love it.
I love it, I have a impala ss also has a v-8
Still have mine had it since high school
That’s awesome! Was it your first car? 🙂
Thats such a beautiful example of that gens Monte Carlo SS.
Getting one before the summer over most definitely a sleeper 🔥
That’s awesome! 😎
Got one in late April this year. 1 owner 100,000mi. They are awesome to drive and very nice. Hope you get one have fun!
@@mattcronin3237 i hope so I’m looking for a sport red one haha

Super nice car. I have seen the Impala's, but this is the first time i have seen a Monte Carlo.
That’s interesting you say that, I also notice more Impala SS models than any of the other LS4 cars! Thanks for watching! 😎
Yeah the 6th Gen version with the v8 was only made for two yrs. That makes this Monte Carlo a little rare.
I have a 06 Monte Carlo LT and it is definitely one of the nicest ones in the country. I haven’t seen one as nice or in as good of condition as mine. Wash and wax it every Sunday, garage kept and baby the shit out of it. I just hit 96k miles
That’s awesome!! 🤩
I had a 07 and I’m happy I got the aftermarket warranty because every 6 to 8 months I would need motor mounts because it has to much power for the front wheels . But I would but it again I miss it.
What a great car!
These were VERY big in NASCAR
Yeah, it’s sad to see them gone, but at least GM sent them off with a V8!
Looking at one myself thanks car looks good rides smooth
I have always liked these...FWD is fine to me because I know that the average driver can't handle advasive maneuvers in a RWD vehicle or drive one competently in bad weather.
That’s very true, lol. FWD keeps a lot of people out of trouble. 😅
No one ever confused a Monte with a GN in the 80's. They looked completely different from one another.
I have an older friend who owned an 87 GN for almost 20 years and he said on occasion people had confused for a MC. I’m sure almost all car enthusiast of that era know the difference, but their platform and silhouette is very similar. 🤷♂️😅
A GN has a Monte front wheel well and a cutlass rear. It could make anyone not really in the know think it’s which ever their favorite is.
I still love that styling
Picking up one this weekend with only 12k og miles!
That’s awesome!! 🙂
Crazy that they never made the Monte Carlo with a manual transmission.
nose hit!
We’ll stated! These are very unique cars from a cool era of time. I’m glad they exist. 🙂
It's not fast. This guy is a second or more off on his 0-60 and 1/4 mile
What an awesome rental car surprise, lol. 😎
When you say it's "lethargic" you're feeling the dinosaur transmission in action lol 🤣
My grandpa had a classic Monte Carlo and I saw one of these for sale so I’m thinking about whether or not I should get one 🤔
Man this one is really clean. Holy smokes
Yeah, it was fun to get to borrow!
I love the front end on the 2003-it was my first new car. It had a V6...a V8 would have definitely gotten me into trouble. ;)
compared to what a FWD el dorado? or a FWD oldsmobile aurora?
mann memories. My cousin bought one brand new it was red.
Oh I bet that was an awesome experience! I definitely miss my supercharged Impala at times, lol. 😝
Really wished gm kept the ls4 around to put in the fwd applications they have today like the traverse, Acadia, old impala( before 2020)
Absolutely! They already engineered it, why not keep using it! In a larger vehicle with more room to work on it and a better transmission I can only imagine the aftermarket it could have had! There could have also been a FWD biased AWD system made if that was the case. 🙂
Glorified Lumina . Hey i love it.
That’s an awesome story, thanks for sharing your experience and what the environment was like at the dealers when these were new! 🙂
I just found a 06 monte Carlo Ltz.smoth running ride.
I have a 2002 model with over 300 hundred thousand miles on it and still runs.
That’s awesome! Those 3800’s are sweet engines. 🙂
Jeff Gordan Won A Championship with This Car Let's Not Forget..
That’s right! 😎
I don't know of any other car with a transversely mounted V8. The car looks like it was well taken car of.
@Automotive Anonymous
You really have to be partial to the front wheel drive to do that to a car.
Good review!
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you appreciated it! 🙂
I have an 06 SS, I live in Colorado, the car does great in the snow, I assume it's because of the the extra weight of the v-8 .
Nice, and I bet you’re right! Thanks for watching. 🙂
Love mine same color too 58000 miles
Very nice! 😎
I honestly don’t mind it being fwd but is there a good transmission to swap in to take the power ?
Not that I’m aware of. Some companies like ZZPerformance or the WBODY store do or use to sell upgraded transmission parts, but I’ve never heard of a transmission swap with one of these. Other than swapping a 3800 series 2 engine to the 5 speed manual in the rear mid engine Fiero. 😢
You didn't find one of the cooler easteregg features the back seat folds doun for long packages have had 3 of these and love them over 120000 miles two thums up
Thanks for sharing this tip!!
cool car i have the 07 pontiac grand pirx gxp love these cars..
GXPs are sweet, I hardly ever see them though. Thanks for watching!
How does your 3.6R compare to the old SS Monte’s?
How's the transmission? I hear that 6th gen Monte Carlo's often have transmission issues.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 thanks 👍
previous owner couldn't put some exhaust tips on this before it got repoed?
Lol 😂
Lol the backup camera! 😂
Haha 😛
Pioneer Blue Tooth Flat Screen Nav Stereo includes a Back Up Camera and its great on the 07 MC! Now all my rides have Back Ups! Bought new Jan 2, 2007, 65K and going strong.
What are the lights flashing and cutting out
That’s likely just due to the camera settings and the frames per second that it captures footage rather than what the naked eye sees. 🙂
Imagine if Buick had this Platform for the GN and GNX also a newer Skylark GNX Stage 1,2,3
That would have been sweet! Buick sure has gone down hill in the cool department these last few decades. 😅
Nice video ✌️
Thanks! 🙂
AWD conversion possible?
With enough money a lot of things are possible. I never would have believed back in the day that people would actually RWD swap these haha.
I wonder if you could swap a rwd from a g8 into this...
Thanks for watching!!
Awesome
Here's the thing: Yes they should've kept it rear wheel drive, but since they didn't, they really should've put the 4t80 instead of the 4t65hd. I'm knew that the 4t65 could be the weak link, even though mine made it to 300k before it started slipping behind a modified series 2 supercharged 3800 (for 200k of those miles) and get rid of that DOD.
With that being said, id like the lacrosse super
Yeah, it’s a shame they didn’t do more with these platforms!
You said that was the only ls4 in a front wheel drive but the impala from 06-09 had a ls4 version
Oops, I don’t remember what I said exactly but yeah the LS4 was in that and a few other GM W body cars, like the Pontiac GXP. Thanks for watching! 😊
Where is this one for sale at?
It was at the Twin Falls Subaru about a year ago. They also had a V8 Impala a few months back but I wasn’t able to make it to town in time before it sold. They get some decent performance cars in.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 thanks. Got me wanting to try and find one….

There’s definitely a lot more you can do to this platform.
First being a DOD delete. Worst thing manufacturers do.
I don't want a front wheel drive car, especially a sporty type car. Chevy should have left the car rear wheel drive.
I easily beat one of these when it was new in my C5 Corvette, stock vs stock!
