I appreciate y’all making this video. I just graduated from nurse practitioner school this month and live in Alabama. The reality is that I don’t have the time nor will to hunt, so it’s just gonna have to be secondary for me. I was wanting to get a bottle to celebrate with and it also be worth the investment, so this video was perfectly timed. Thank you!
Agreed. No bourbon with an age statement of less than 20 years is worth $300. If you don't have an age statement... it shouldn't be above $100 IMO. If you are ashamed of the age of your whiskey then don't charge like it's a premium product. When bourbon is trying to charge more than Macallen per year of age they screwed up. I've tried a ton of whiskey and VERY few bottles taste that much better than most barrel picks that are made up of 8-10 year old MGP. Corn doesn't evolve very much after 8 years in a barrel. There is a mountain of great whiskey at $60-70. For a bottle to be over $100 it should be 10+ years and good, or INSANELY good without an age statement. Stagg drinks like $60-70 whiskey. EHT BP drinks like $80-100 whiskey. GTS $100-150, WLW $100-150, 4 Roses LE... $100-150. Those are good bottles but they aren't the best whiskey I've found. I've had dozens of bottles that were $80 that beat the unicorns.
I would do almost anything for a single rickhouse! Honestly the best pours I have ever had! I am going to have to try and find one at the price you are talking about! It would honestly make my year! I LOVE that bottle
There is a big difference between secondary, online store and bourbon museum prices. I normally see Stagg for around $180-$200 in the secondary groups. BT released tons earlier this year and prices have gone down.
I would luv to have tried but when they started going for $300 plus they became dead to me like all buffalo trace products had already years ago. Good but not worth the price of admission now sadly. Barrell is about to be added for.mismanagement and was becoming a fan of there chord but they are starting to become greedy like the others. Inflation is real and im.betting the brands that are price gauging and encouraging secondary pricing will be like 1980's bourbon....dead f Michters, buffalo trace, Weller, etc. Wont wait in line , I won't be entering there drawings anymore and for damn sure wont be supporting any other brands connected to their bs
I haven't had a Stagg or an EHT Barrel proof and though I may pay a little over MSRP if I saw them, I am pretty content regularly getting Elijah Craig Barrel Proof at retail which are still even older than the others without the 12 year age statement...
Online places are not the secondary markets. Secondary markets are illegal, invite only online groups. You have to do things like post some words and all prices as images instead of text.
Solid video idea and definitely should keep doing these! The pirate bottle Elijah craig is underrated on secondary to me and honestly the 117 series has dropped. HAS B3 was a hitter batch and it’s everywhere right now. M10 Rye is also undervalued
Agreed about pirate bottles being sleepers on secondary. For how good the whiskey is, you’d expect the price to be double what they currently are. Just like how presidents choice used to be such a sleeper on secondary a few years ago at like only $350
Why are you encouraging distilleries and liquor stores to charge more for bourbon? Bourbon is already overpriced but the secondary markets. Do not agree. One bit with you on this topic.
Just be patient those prices are about to tank in the next year ..I think we will see some of it this summer . Anyone charging over MSRP is gonna have to adapt or not sell whiskey
So I have a good friend selling off his bourbon collection and I’m rarely new to bourbon (like 1 & a half years). I was curious if there was a way to get your opinion on what I’m looking at and see what your thoughts are price wise? Is there a good place to message you?
23b is the first Stagg I tried and I HATED it at first. It was terrible and turned me off of Stagg. Then I had a sample of 23A and loved it. Went back to the 23b after it had been opened for 5 or 6 weeks and it was AMAZING. Tastes like a grape Jolly Rancher to me.
Screw stagg. Ecbp is better and they dont encourage price gouging like that buffalo trace multinational corporation that is mostly concerned with shareholders. Im also starting to see american brands.that make their best products for europe or japan, so f jack daniels and blantons(bt) And bottles that start at $199 ....looking at you four gate your just another kentucky owl in my book their days are numbered i predict
Michter's 10 right now is Early Times distillate (from BF) aged by Michters. In two more years, it will be Michter's distillate instead. That will be interesting.
Where'd you get this info...cause it def taste like brown foreman just barreled differently ...and it's far tastier that way but I was never sure..they Barrel at a low proof and let it come up to whatever they think tastes best..they don't water it down
Various sources including history of Michters and Fred Minnick and the published mashbill. But in the next two years it will flip over to Michters distillate. Michters is a very very young distillery with an old name and great distillery tours/tastings. But the good stuff is still contract distilled.
@@blakestah yeah I knew it was contract just didn't know exactly who...where do they get there rye cause it's also phenomenal..I got to have a couple pours of the new ten yr 2024 it's so good
I hope they keep BF under contract while they work through getting their own distillate up to snuff. Would hate to see what happened to so many great small distilleries when they go from MGP to their own juice and totally kill the quality of their products..
@@brettheiner7125 I am pretty certain BF discontinued contract distilling. Michter's is really detail oriented in their aging process however, so if they can distill decently they will have a good product. But their product will taste more like the low-end Michter's plus age, and less like BF.
Guys love your channel and rely on your opinions and palate. I’m starting to wonder whose side you’re on when you are talking like $375 and $450 like that is a regular price. Feel like you’re selling out and driving the price Up. Truth be told probably a little like some other things shouldn’t be a bottle over $50 or so. If y’all keep talking how these 10x prices are acceptable it will just drive it out of site for the regular guy. Disappointed. Believe you’re being supported a little too much and forgot about the regular bourbon guy. Actually I think it’s about to correct itself at some near point but who knows with over seas markets and all. Still enjoy just wanted to put my two cents in.
Just got delivered from online through Old Town Tequila the Stagg 23C today. Man… this is so good! This is my first Stagg! I got it for $250 and it’s definitely worth it! Just started my bourbon collection a few months ago and this is by far the best bourbon I’ve poured thus far.
That's an absurd price for Stagg. I would go $180 on an exceptional batch and maybe $120 on an average. I would rather do the work to get a couple close to MSRP, $60..
I don’t mind paying. I have bottles in my collection that lasted over 8 years. This Stagg will be any different. I don’t drink like that. 🤣🤣🤣 Glad I have it though 👍
I don’t think their little ole channel is really encouraging anything. Also, the secondary market prices are coming down more than 50% from where they were last summer. Stop getting yourself all riled up and just buy one of the hundreds of bourbons you can find on the shelf for under $100, especially store picks that a lot of people overlook.

I disagree - some of these are orders of magnitude better than most of the bottles out there. Value, like palates, vary and are subjective.
I love old forester too.

Stagg is available for 150 on secondary? I've never tried it cuz I can never find it below like 225 lol.

Depends on the batch, but you can find all the 2022, 2023 & 2024 batches for $150-160.
paid $20 for a pour of ehtbp but dont know if i can pony up $250+ (lowest around here) for a bottle

Why promote insanely inflated prices? We should be working to get those down...
I think you guys do a great job on your explanations as to Why. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
I live in Louisville, what local secondary market are you all talking about because I would love to buy and or trade for some of these bottles
Probably Facebook

Awesome list. Zach is that OWA pick still at Merle’s?
I think it is gone but they have a new one coming.
Stagg is $60 now at liqour barn. At least that's what I paid last week in Louisville.

@@ThreeBZmaybe the craft guys but not the ones they posted, not a chance. These in this video will almost always be secondary.
It’s pretty easy to know why!
This video isn't really about what the distillerys should charge. It is more about what we would pay.
Just drink any one of the millions of great non allocated bottles. Stop chasing Pokémon. You are a adult... Then it don't even matter.
Great list guys! Buffalo Trace on shelves at Publix in southwest FL now, so looks like more supply is starting to show up.
From a BT rep: we've produced 25% more Buffalo Trace each year for the past few years and we do not yet see an end to our failure to meet demand.
By the way I’m in BG KY and have all these bottles plus some others but still have the belief.
Solid choices. Haven’t had the pleasure of trying all of them. Cheers

I’m finally seeing $140 Staggs around where I live. $299 EHT BPs too. Hopefully the crazy is settling down.
I would take a good 100 proofer over most CS anyday.
Not even close. I’d rather water my high proof whiskey down to my own taste.
Never had a stagg😢
What are some of the best secondary sources you guys buy from?
I've looked you years to find a Stagg in my area. It simply doesn't exist. I came across it one time for $600.
