I cannot imagine paying $270 for a bottle of booze, or $170, or for that matter $70. This is crazy time folks. I am happy with the bourbon I buy for $25-$60!

I think I've commented this before, but I'm done with allocations. Especially Buffalo Trace. And especially Blanton's. This year I'm only buying store picks and local distilleries (I live in GA). The only exception will be the raffles or offers from my local store. And even then, I'll opt for something I've never had before and absolutely won't overpay.

Old Elk, I have had at least 5 different bottles and it’s just doesn’t live up to the price I paid.

I’m with you on most of your picks. However, I can’t agree on the Bakers 13 and the Bookers. I always have a steady supply of Bookers. To me it’s a great whiskey at a reasonable price. definitely agree on high west and Whistlepig. There’s so many other good ryes out there rather than whistle pig that I see no reason to pay the price. I used to be a huge fan of high west especially the midwinter night dram but now other places are doing the same thing with more character and at a lower price

MSRP speaking, anything above $80 falls within the rule of diminishing returns for me. There are so many great bottles out there that won’t let you break the bank and still won’t let you miss anything that is “too good”.
    Nice review!

  • @100puremustard5
    @100puremustard5 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Dang! I though I would agree with more... but it seems you both don't like aged dark, rich oak in your bourbon 😂 NO Baker's 13, No Calumet 16, No Gatsby. Now I will say these are cheaper than what you paid (Baker's 13 $130, Calumet 16 $115 @ Costco, Gatsby $220) and I did not buy the Gatsby. Also Calumet took some time to open up for me, but once it did WOW! one of my favorites. And knockin 1792 FP??? It's $45-$50! I do agree with everything else, especially the Booker's and Mid Winter Nights Dram. The Woodford BP is $109 at Costco so not out 100% yet on that one. Definitley not your best list guys (for me) 😂😂😂

Agreed, first pour of a store pick was fantastic. I was a little surprised by the duo’s comments on flavor profile since the full proof had a complexity with the heat mentioned. The heat’s there at 125 proof but it’s worth the price of admission. (Got mine for $49.99)

I'm basically in agreement with all of these. Cal 16 is a great bourbon though. Not only is it really freaking good, but there is nowhere else where I'm going to be able to just walk into a store and buy a 16 year age stated product for MSRP. And at $10/year, the price holds up. Great whiskey, great availability, not a price gouge, it's a win-win-win.

I stopped buying finished bourbons about two years ago. It was a good choice that I don't regret. I stopped buying any bourbons about 3 months ago. It was also a good choice. Now I just take the time I was hunting to invite friends and neighbors over for a pour or two. I'll buy again but bourbon is full on beanie babies for adults and there isn't a single one I have missed buying in the last few months that I think about. My wallet is thanking me as well.

I’ve been complaining about 1792 Full Proof not delivering enough flavor for the proof for years.
I was sad to have a friend ask me if he should pick up a bottle of MWND and having to tell him that it was just too expensive for what it is. And that is true pretty much across the lineup. I hear the latest Bourye is really good, but it’s distillery only, so I wouldn’t know. Maybe you need to live in Utah for it to be good…

The Willett 8 has very similar taste to last year's Old Fitzgerald 8 BIB, so if you like that flavor profile, it may actually be a deal. Retail for Retail, the Old Fitz is the better deal. Good luck finding one at retail, though. The Willett can be had for 235-250 and is much more common to find.

They blinded many tequilas and had many surprises. Especially when it takes the wind out of the hype brands. It's needed when publicity in any shape gets a hold of your wallet, then come regret and disappointed when it doesn't line up with what someone said. I'm a beginner. Kind of. But when an $80 bottle of something is a let down compared to a $50. You scratch your head and are shy next time.

Makers Mark….every bottle I’ve ever had just tastes like I put a raw oak stave in my mouth. Agree with the Bookers.

1792 FP at half the cost of old forester FP and way more findable. That said, my 1792 also drinks hot…never been able to find the old forester, but when bringing price / availability in it doesn’t seem like the best comp

I’ve tried the last two Boss Hogs and I think the WP 12yr is the best by far:) my Calumet 16 is just not that good, my Sam Houston 14 is really nice! My 1792 full proof is sweet and not hot at all, I haven’t had a High West that I’ve liked yet. Never had the Gatsby?

I agree, the calumet 16 just doesn’t do it for me. I’d buy a RRSB, KC12 and a host of other bourbons before I’d buy other calumet 16 - and save a ton of cash.

Great bottle picks for bourbon to pass on. I would never buy any whiskey because the bottle looks cool. At the end of the day, the bottle gets tossed in the garbage. It's just marketing for more money. Great review.
