The best way is to find a used one. It’s not uncommon to find them for $1,000 or less. Verify that it’s really a 383 before buying. Throw new bearings in and anything else it needs and you’ll have a 383 for 1/3 of the price of a new one or less.
@@Wpbandy A lot of them are externally balanced with a 400 sbc flexplate and balancer. Both have a counterweight on them. If it’s internally balanced you’d have to measure the stroke, no way to tell externally.
