This is the first time my 1979 Cutlass has been started in over 10 years. It came from the factory with Oldsmobile 260ci V8 in it. I swapped in a stout little TBI 350 and TH400 into it. What rockers are you running on these heads and were you able to achieve true mid-lift geometry?
PRW rocker arms. I used longer pushrods to achieve proper geometry.

My 95’ F150 with the 5.8L did not come with MAF. It was produced in May of 95 and I bought it in June.
I’m thinking of getting a 350 and boring it over 30 ,I want to make 450-500hp.what would u recommend for this build ,thinking abt a 383 stroker .Im new to this
383 with 10.25:1 compression. XR282 cam. RPM Airgap Intake. AFR Enforcer cylinder heads. That gives a proven hp number of about 470 on an engine dyno.

The best way is to find a used one. It’s not uncommon to find them for $1,000 or less. Verify that it’s really a 383 before buying. Throw new bearings in and anything else it needs and you’ll have a 383 for 1/3 of the price of a new one or less.

@@Wpbandy A lot of them are externally balanced with a 400 sbc flexplate and balancer. Both have a counterweight on them. If it’s internally balanced you’d have to measure the stroke, no way to tell externally.

I'll take an obs or s10 or Tacoma for my driving, I only drive when I need to and it's not every day or far either. You can make an older 90s compact pickup truck be real nice and reliable with the correct maintenance and tlc, sure it might have check engine light issues but it's old and it's alive, it starts up and drives. Cheaper than a monthly payment.
I have a 85 Cadillac Seville 4.1 fwd is it possible to put a LS in it?
That’s a tough one. I’m not sure if it’s feasible, but maybe someone else will chime in. They did make fwd Impalas and Monte Carlos with a LS4. Not sure if those would swap over.

Every time you change your oil put a 2 drops of new oil on the battery terminals and the corrosion will stop. I had the same issue, started doing that haven't had to clean them yet.

What rpm is this idling at?
Craye engines fall under a different category other than what came from the factory. Crate engines usually have the fuel pump mounting boss and hole drilled for the fuel pump push rod. Cause crate engines get installed in older vehicles that use a carburetor. The gm catalogs would say this in the notes. Warranty engines are usually crate engines and also fall under the other than production engine category.
You are the first persons that says anything good about 193 heads. They are swirl port heads and pretty useless for anything other than stock.
Stock they flow worse than Vortec heads and 882s, but they flow about the same as the 305 HO heads. That’s not great, but mild porting and they’ll outflow the old camel humps. Charles Servedio on TH-cam has ported them to flow over 270 cfm on the intake side.
I purchase new a 1978 Diablo, black on black, red trim.($5950) It came with a factory Z28 motor, Muncie 4 Speed, 373 gear. I was beating the heavier Trans Ams on the street. I loved that car . Except it was real squirrely to drive in the rain. I spun it around a couple of times just hitting 3 gear on wet. Extremely dangerous car. It was turning in the low 14s 1/4 mile pure stock on its factory Goodyear G60s. The speedometer only went to 80 mph. I brought it all the way around to 15 on an empty 2 lane black top and it took both lanes to keep it on the road. It would have been a great stock collectors car but I sold it when I got married to put the wifey into a 79 Corona Luxury Lift-back and myself in a used 3/4 ton pick-up for my work.

Found a 1996 f150 4x4 for 6k (Canadian), 200’000 km and no body rust. Runs and drives but was sitting for 3 years. Is it worth taking a look at?

That sounds like it might be worth a look. All of the engines for these are rock solid. Check to make sure it still has good coolant, because I’d imagine up there it gets very cold. Also see if he’d let you get it running in his yard just to verify everything.
I have a 305 that Dyno at at 435 HP on pump gas in a 72 nova with a 700 r4 and a 3.73 posi and it's a blast on the street
Found a 1994 xlt supercab long bed with the 5.8l. Only 106k original miles. Think it’s worth for 8k and for a daily? How’s the highway comfort with these?
Doesn’t sounds like a bad deal these days. I think they’re pretty comfortable on the highway, but you’ll probably have to be the judge of that when you test drive it.

I bought a 96 lx 4.9 manual shift 4x4. Still driving it today. No cons. Doesn't hurt that it's been garage kept and taken care of it whole life.

Also, having the box of parts at the back is smarter because of the rear window, when i bought my elco, it had no rear window. The used glass from a junkyard was 650$ and the install was 400, so watch that back window
The rear windows are a very odd shape. I can imagine it being difficult to find a used one…

They are Hylift lifters, formerly known as Johnson. The best ways to get them directly, is from an engine building shop, or on eBay.
It's gonna be 'a little difficult' because youre practically laying down. Set your seatback almost straight - look at a bucket seat.
I put a stoked 305 into my wifes 74 nova that was built for a sprint car long ago. 334cid. She pulled hard hard all the way to 6500. Fun car.

@@Larstappen The install isn’t very hard. You install them from the bottom. The hardest part will be getting the rest of the exhaust system to connect to the collectors of the headers. You’ll probably want an exhaust shop to do the latter part.

96 trucks are OBD2, makes troubleshooting the now ancient sensors easier. As far as I know, these were the only OBS trucks that were.
I just got a mustang with built 351 c4 trans and 456 gears and 33 inch tubbed out tires can I drive on the hwy
With tires that big, your effective gear ratio is 3.59:1. You shouldn’t have any trouble cruising 65 mph. With my tires my effective gear ratio was 4.23:1.

That Duntov grind cam is what turned the old 283 engine into such a beast back in 1957! It was great in the 327 as well and was the basis for the later hydraulic L82 camshaft in the 350.

A 12” converter. Might be a little small for the cam, but the cubic inches should bring the curve down some.

Yes it was! I think the most expensive items were the cam and lifters and they were inexpensive.
I lost track of the number of times I used the term. If it wasn't enough, here we go- this is a budget build.
