They dont exactly get a chance. Eddie Howe did, and took it with both hands. There was a time were we had plenty managers in the top flight who were English. Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan managed Newcastle at the top end of the league.
I think the lack of coaching in the UK. Spain has a lot of Uefa licensed coaches. The cost in the UK and even Ireland is absolutely extortionate and is affecting the English and British game in general, sadly.
Enzo Maresca at Chelsea is single-handedly destroying the "English coaches don't get chances" narrative. We all saw what Potter and Lampard did at Chelsea when they were given the chance.
I was debating this being put in the video. Rioch is half-Scottish and half-English and represented the Scottish national team. However as he was born in England and still classified as half-English so I decided to put him in still.
Just look at Gareth Southgate, 2 out of 10 for me. Poor manager. Too defensive, parks the bus & hates trying to attack That’s our standard right at the top of the uk pyramid so imagine what happens below it A certificate doesn’t make you great. I talk to many managers across the board. Our managers have to be brave & think outside the box rather than copy pep guardiola. Also our football is dying as top level require athletes not ballers
Facts. Also, the reason that England reached to two euro finals back to back is due to luck and their good players. It wasn't due to Southgate's coaching.
Big Sam is a good manager but he's never really been given the chance, Bolton didn't have ambition for the champions league that's why he left and they was no reason for Everton to sack him he got them a top 8 finish after keeping them from relegation. With leeds he only had four games to save a club and with the england job the fa didn't give him a second chance and it was arguably a set up with the press being there.
There’s plenty of good English managers. It comes down to what you contextuaise ‘good’ as. Case in point: Sean Dyche. Yes yes, brexit football bla bla bla. He got Burnley from the championship into Europe. But we all pretend Dyche is a dinosaur and Marcelo Bielsa was a better coach at Leeds, conceding 4 every week. Eddie Howe got UCL football and battered PSG with Newcastle. Sam Allerdyce was instrumental in bringing in the sports science and fitness routines of modern footballers to the prem. So much of the English contribution in management gets VASTLY overlooked by people, because the premier league has been more or less dominated by 5 managers: Ferguson Guardiola Wenger Mourinho Klopp In that order. What about Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson? 😢
Completely agree with you mate, especially when you say what is contextualised as “good”. Plenty of “good” English managers exist just not plenty of “good enough” it seems. Brian Clough and Sir Bobby Robson (may they rest in peace) are the kind of men we wish we had today in modern English football management.
@ Honestly I think in that regard, the prem is a victim of its own success because of the international management. Chelsea will give Enzo a try, but can you imagine Utd or Arsenal going for a top up and coming English manager from the championship or whatever? Its just not sexy, y’know?
Oh yeah 100%, a Championship manager would never be selected as it’s not the “norm” and it’s not the thing clubs do and we are so use to the stereotype of a ‘world class’ manager from overseas. If a Championship manager came in to a big Premier League Club I think most fans would start complaining before they even watched a game or understood the mangers skill or tactics. They would see where he came from and assume the worst.
So much of the English contribution in management gets VASTLY overlooked by people, because the vast majority of managers are foreigners. There, solved that for you.
Yes I meant Clough (I normally spell names phonetically on my script and must of missed it frustratingly). He’s been incredible at Mansfield! I am of course aware of his dad, who was an alright manager I guess. 😉
This is a load of BS. There’s just as many English managers abroad than Germany and France. There’s loads of former pros who are pundits across Europe too. LOL. Worst vid.
More English managers stay in England compared to European managers who stay in their country. That is a fact. This is all backed by factual evidence. If you’d love to weigh in your reasoning on why there are no English managers and try to produce a video yourself then be my guest.
@ Wrong! Just Google English managers abroad and find transfermark. Then you’ll discover how wrong you are. There’s more English managers than French and German outside of their countries LOL. You are factually incorrect and it took about 20 seconds of effort.
@ I don’t need to name them. Just Google ‘managers abroad transfermarkt’ and they are all listed. Then toggle to Germany and France to see there’s fewer LOL
They need to go to do coaching courses while playing football during summer break.
Especially at grassroots and at lower levels. Or even have scouts that scout future managers and have some sort of scheme created.
They dont exactly get a chance. Eddie Howe did, and took it with both hands. There was a time were we had plenty managers in the top flight who were English. Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan managed Newcastle at the top end of the league.
Oh God, this nonsense again... what did Potter and Lampard achieve with their "chances"? Howe, good as he may be, has Newcastle in mid-table.

Boss Quality Vid
Thank you!
You have to go back to the 80’s for Arsenal’s last English manager. Bruce Rioch who is pictured is Scottish.
I was debating this being put in the video. Rioch is half-Scottish and half-English and represented the Scottish national team. However as he was born in England and still classified as half-English so I decided to put him in still.
But yes you are right, the last “fully English” manager was Burtenshaw in 1986
Wow, didn’t know that about Rioch. Fair play. Great vid btw 👍
Thank you, comments like that convince me to keep going!
The English play too much kick and run soccer. There is little attempt to control the tempo of the game which is essential for tactical excellence.

No mention of Kieran McKenna?
He’s Northern Irish. But a very good manager!
@@ThatFootballCommentator He was born in London, brought up in Northern Ireland, lived in England since age 16yrs.... destined for the very top
fair enough, certainly seen his skills with back to back promotion. Cannot be underestimated or under-looked.
The not wanted in Europe 😅
Who’s Nigel Clow ? Did you mean Clough (pronounced Cluff) ? His dad was a decent manager, ever heard of Brian Clough ?
Yes I meant Clough (I normally spell names phonetically on my script and must of missed it frustratingly). He’s been incredible at Mansfield!

They are,nt good enough, facts, 😮😮
Yeah but why?
@bnk777 when was the ladt time n English manager won the PL, let,s start there
How's zidane a good manager,he even a manager..the video is definitely not worth watching..
So you think winning The Champions League three seasons in a row is easy? That requires a quality manager and Zidane was that manager.
It would be easier to admit you watched 15 seconds, commented and left.
What crack are you using brother?
