    I work more on the electro-mechanical side of things and didn't even know about the inaccuracy of pressure gauges at their lower limits till you mentioned it. Had to look up Hooke's law.
    It'd be interesting if you could demo that in a video by having several different ranged gauges on a singe tank, and vary the pressure to show these differences in a direct side by side comparison.

    • @erupp5975
      @erupp5975 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mauricevandoeselaar it depends on the type of Guage it is. Guage for different mediums have different methods of adjustment. Guage used for measuring gasses usually have adjustment screws on the face and Guage used for liquids usually have a locking knob that can be turned to adjust the needle location. Sometimes its just as simple as opening a vent to release pressure inside the Guage if there is a temperature/pressure variation cause. Any Guage should be checked against a master Guage to verify its functioning correctly. Most can be rebuilt if there is any damaged parts causing bad readings. So don't just throw one away if its out of whack.

    • @gunner4544
      @gunner4544 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Ave knows this but for those who don’t, use a gauge range at 50% target. Ie if your system is around 50 psi, 0-100 psi gauge is required. It measures accurately. 0-20, 80-100 is getting error built in due to a few factors. In other words, don’t use a hydraulic gauge 0-3000 on your well pump. You won’t see a pressure. In enginerding, it’s called 50% full scale accuracy (FSA). If you can’t figure out what range to use for your application, here is a colouring book for Christmas… lol

    This made me chuckle, in the chemical industry when they pressure "test" valves with nitrogen, they pass (the test) but on a hydrogen line, they pass, out of every single orifice! Hydrogen will find any leak, even through Teflon. The enginerds found this out at my place when they cheaped out and bought the cheapest valves they could. Dealing with 40 bars of h2? Lasted but a week. And when the cheap relief valve lifted, it went off like a cannon, only an inch line but jeeeez. How do you make a team of engineers run like hell? Used their stash of cheap valves during breakdown shutdowns, and had to rethink to tight shut gate valves. Yet the plant the h2 comes from, (outside contractor on site) deals with it at 250 bars doesn't have issues. Cmon guys, operator (me) says ask them what they use, nah, don't listen to that guy, he hasn't got a degree.

    We used to do this as kids, but, not with pipes. We'd put the lye/water in a soda bottle. Put in some Al foil and then put a balloon over the opening. FIll it up, Tie it off and let them float away. Or, touch them with a lighter and hear the bang!
    Later on in a lab we would use He to find leaks in high vacuum systems. No, not H. We had too many heat sources. Didn't want to see the 'bell jars' explode :)

    I absolutely love doing an experiment like this. You never know what you're going to get and sometimes you are pleasantly surprised, even if it is a little risky. But there's still nothing like throwing a few ounces of sodium in water. 😜
