I would like to see someone do some Galalith production using casein. I have attempted to produce Galalith using the very old German patents but was unable to get a decent product. For some reason in the United States you can't find calcium caseinate so you are forced to produce casein from milk and clean and clean and clean it which is a big hassle. It's not even worth it if you ask me.

Can you please tell me the curing temprature for the phenolic resin coated on the abrasive cloth as I convert the phenolic resin from powder to liquid by using methanol?
A test tube is filled with 2 cm of resorcinol. Water is added until it is covered. Next 2 mL of formaldehyde solution (25-30%) are added. The test tube is heated until the resorcinol has dissolved. Then 4 drops of 10% sodium hydroxide solution are added. It is mixed with a wooden stick and if it doesn't react at once, it is heated again until it begins to bubble slightly. The heat source is then removed and it is mixed until is solidifies.
can this experiment be reproduced using phenol instead of resorcinol? because I get a very different reaction maybe my concentrations are off for example my phenol is crystalline and a couple of centimeters in a test tube is going to equate to more phenol then if they were in large chunks You have any suggestions I would like to make this exact resin

My phenol is very pure as i did 4 distillation/decarboxylation and I use only very high quality reagents I am lookin into melamine now. the acid is very very cheap and the reaction is supp osed to yield a very hard transparent plastic This whole topic is starting to bug me lol. apparently some of these reactions yealed the precursor to the plastic that then is to be heated under pressure.
+Clown Whisper I didn't know that these resins are able to be transparent. As far as I know these resins have always been coloured (mostly black) with pigments. I know that urea also forms a resin with formaldehyde, but it is white.

I'm getting a bill soon so I'm going to make a pressure vessel that I can heat in test this theory. Random Experiments International I cant type much because im so sick so that last post was voice recognition and I CANT even make it out bUT ON A NEW NOTE I just did the glacial acetic acid formula and changed it up a bit. it evolved into a white foam rubber like product. I doubled the experiment amounts and added 3ml of ammonia chloride. then instead of catalyzing with concentrated sulfuric acid I made a 50% dilution an slowly added it drop by drop shaking for a while between drops. I also kept the solution at around 70c I just now tried to burn a small chunk of the white foam and it did nothing. Fun stuff

It doesn't matter if there is more than one hydroxyl group. All do react similar to phenol (the compound), so they're often used as a non carcinogenic substitute for it.

I'm pretty careful not to get anything on my hands and they keep my fume hood turned up towards high but it's still a little unnerving I have been searching for a crosslinked that'll leave me with a semi porous substrate so far I haven't found anything suitable. once I find the correct resin composition I want to try to impregnate this mixture with graphing for a specific purpose. I am no chemist so this is a hit and miss proposition for me

Phenol Formaldehyde resins are also used in an epoxy (Novalac) for acid proofing. It's bloody horrible stuff though.
