I think the biggest issue is their silence and/or lack of answering a question they had to anticipate being asked, which is "why is the most expensive phone you sell not getting these features and if it is, give us an idea of when". The silence on the matter is where I am frustrated with Google. There is NO WAY they couldn't have anticipated this question coming up from people who paid $1699 for the Fold less than a year ago and are now seeing features roll out to phones half the price. Just communicate better with your customers. I don't feel thats an unreasonable request. As always, great video Shane.
Communication would go a long way. Even on the tweet about circle search, just say something like " and coming to Pixel Fold in the following weeks" something like that.
I believe Google is not used to seeing people as their customers. Normally, their customers are the companies paying for ads. People are mostly the product itself, not a paying customer.
I'm afraid this understanding sits very deep inside of Google, that's what I find scary about Android. That's also why I always keep one iOS and one Android device in parallel.
This is a really good video and a great example of why I follow your TH-cam channel, Shane. You're the only person I've come across who daily drives foldables and gives fair praise and criticism
Personally, I think they shipped the Fold undercooked but they have added to it and made it a better device, not that it was a bad one to begin with.
And tbh, trying being a Pixel Tablet owner, that thing got Android 14 and clear calling in Duo and that's it.
How many new features and updates has the Z Fold 5 gotten? What about the OnePlus Open? What about the entire life span of Surface Duo? I think Pixel Fold hangs in there pretty good.. lol
Any idea of when we will be getting Bard? I've been using it and it's so much better than Google assistant. My dad was recently hospitalized and had many scans done and although I do have a medical background my knowledge on medical terms are not plentiful. When I asked Bard to interpret the records in a way I could understand it did it seamlessly. And it just so fluid. Hope to hear from you.
Brilliant synopsis Sir. Thanks 🙏🏼
-Me : How many videos is it possible to make out of 2 devices ?
-Shane : Yes.
Hey Shane, just want to say I love your videos and thought provoking nature as a folding phone junky. I especially like your BALANCED viewpoints of these folding phones. It shouldn’t be lost on us how amazing this technology is in general. (zfold 3,4,5, pixelfold, duo 1,2 owner)
Thank you!
Thank you Shane for mentioning "dual interpreter mode". I'd been watching for that feature to be available, but was looking for it inside the Google Translate app. I wasn't aware I had to beckon it via Assistant. (*note to Google, make it available via the Translate app as well. 🙄)
Two main features I purchased my Pixel Fold for were app pairs and "dual interpreter mode". My Pixel Fold experience (which I was already very pleased with) has improved greatly since I watched your last two videos (this one, and the one about APP PAIRS via the Be Nice app). Thank you so much! I hope when you're able to get past the snow at your house you'll enjoy a hot drink on me! ☕
The way they implemented it is silly lol
I know, right? Now I just have to remember the phrase "Hey Google, open Dual Interpreter Mode". Doesn't exactly roll off my tongue. 🙄 Maybe it will after I use it a few times, but I'll probably forget it in the time between uses. Ugh. 🫤
Thanks!
Totally hear you out I absolutely love my pixel fold since launch but I am debating about getting the pixel 8 pro until pixel fold 2 comes out this year... 😅 The pixel fold was just a disappointment but still great all at the same time. I really hope they give it the tensor G4 and just don't mess up again I'm sure they learned but I got a dilemma I'm dealing with. The pixel fold definitely has gotten better after android 14!
@shanecraig what would you do? Hold on to the fold or get the pixel8pro unit fold 2 comes out?
Literally the first minute of the video really summarises how I'm feeling currently.
I just want to know if there's a Pixel fold 2 coming and will it be lighter and thinner?! Will we get the latest chip set?! Will we be able to use icon packs with the pixel fold 2? Enjoy your Pixel fold my friends 😁😎.
All indication is that a Fold 2 will come. G3 is likely.
@@scaryifliteral if it's better than the one I have right now, pixel take my money lmfao.!
My guess is that They don't have much to offer, so they're saving all their AI perks for the next Fold2.. then after, it will trickle down to the original Fold. :p
They have been doing great got the best pictures and software experience running Android 14 beta QR2 Google is way ahead. Also the camera has Pro controls now I can change the ISO ,White balance and others like shadows too.
Well, you also have to state at this point too and Mitch and Samsung Samsung does the same thing with all the S lines they get all the stuff first and then sometimes it’ll trickle down to the fold flip lines but all the ass lines get the stuff first, then it trickles down, maybe to the flip fold Same thing
9:00 nice you read invincible :0
how do you like the comics?
I actually just started it, good so far!
If you had to pick one would you go pixel fold or pixel 8 pro?
I have both. Fold all day
Developer option will give you that floating window for now. It works well.
I made a video covering this months ago, I can't agree that it works well.
@@scaryifliteralI meant as stand alone like having 4 floating windows, or 3, works ok for me, not native but can't complain.
Hello did you have a skin on your hinge?
No, I don't think I'd advise that.
Díky!
Thanks!
I didn't mean to sound negative. I am happy with my Pixel Fold as is. I just hope they update it to have the same options as the Pixel 8 pro. Including those features should not affect Pixel 8 sales but it could hurt Fold sales.
Again, I have to agree with you. Maybe statistically older/business people are the top % of fold owners. People who would get this phone for productivity. The flagship stiff phone is more for the younger crew? It's a bummer :( Maybe someday a Modder/Hacker will make a rom for it. IF Google dose not deliver it. I'm running Total Launcher to customize it to my liking.
I can't use the camera duel screen mode on my fold the phone crashes as soon as you click on it
Try clearing storage and uninstalling updates on the camera app and then let it install updates again
Works on my Fold without any hiccups.
One thing about ai wallpapers - they're a bit buggy on pixel tablet
I think Shane explained several times when commenting on Microsoft Duo - unfortunately, eventhough the Pixel Fold is the most expensive phone, it is not the most important product for Google so they can afford to neglect it - the people like us will buy it anyway as "pioneers" of the new technology and the mass customer is more focused on standard products. So it is "de-prioritized"... But let's not despair, it will come one day...
I'm bothered that these foldables are going to look so similar. That's part of the fun of foldables right now -- they're a little weird, kinda quirky & different from anything else on the market. Becoming homogonized to the Open so quickly is super disappointing
the pixel 8/pro features are just that pixel 8/pro features..at least for now. the same point could be said about the pixel 7/pro as they also didn't get the pixel 8's features.
as for the price of the fold... well it's a fold, in my opinion the price is paid for that hardware feature, and it's not a justification for having the latest software features (excluding promised os update and security updates)
i personally would like to see all features brought to all devices when a feature is software based, but that's google policy and for now you gotta pay to play.
Remember though, the Pixel 6 did get a ton of features from the 7. It's reasonable to expect the 7 to eventually get several of the 8's features as well. Saying they haven't isn't the same as they won't. Google is going to do what they always do and keep the focus on the new flagship and then quietly deliver lots of those new features to the older devices. Business as usual.
Where this gets sticky is with the $1800 phone. It will follow the same rules and track as the other flagships, while being like 3x more expensive, which feels bad.
@@scaryifliteral
a pixel 6 owner didn't know what feature would come to his phone, same goes to the 7 or the fold, one could only hope, but it's not guaranteed.
as for the price, i said my opinion about that in my previous comment.
I don't like or agree with google, i just accept that that's their way, unfortunately.
It has been said that Samsung will be releasing the AI features to other devices mostly those running the gen 2 CPU. I think peoples complaints are basically that they are not supporting the fold as well as the pixel 8 pro. The galaxy announcement where Google said these features will come to the 8 phones is what really set everyone off. Does it get updates, sure. But is it, being the current foldable in their lineup, getting the same level of support as their current slab phones which cost half the price? It's disappointing for people entering the year of the "ai phone" who spend 1800 and are left behind. Especially those buying it now.
I think this is specific thing is *mostly* a marketing problem. Obviously, I could be wrong, but what I've heard and what we've seen in the past indicate that the features we're talking about will arrive on the Pixel Fold just like what Samsung is doing. The difference is that Samsung is telling us and Google isn't, which of course leads people to worry about being left behind. Recency bias plus a negative confirmation bias take hold and we're on the road to doom and gloom lol.
Google needs to communicate much better.
@@scaryifliteral I think you're right about that. Most of the mentioning of the 8series is likely being done by their marketing team who, like you said, is in full pixel 8 mode now. Tech odyssey is always mentioning how bad they are at communicating. Almost as bad as Microsoft
I don't feel like your video is out of context. It is exactly what's wrong with what Google does to Android world, so much fragmentation. Features are often built specifically to certain phones (even though it should be for all). For things like the circle-to-search feature, there is no reason that those features are only for Samsung phones. I can understand if it is Samsung-only built such as Samsung Dex.
Lol it's their most expensive phone in there line up there should be no compromise
hell no bro, they should be giving us ALL features because this is the flagship phone. P Fold should get every feature imaginable plus more. they burn us and we will go other places
I get where you're coming from, but you're not going to buy another foldable where you're going to get what you want to this degree.
