    The pixel fold is a GREAT DEVICE! I was a very long time Samsung user. The pixel fold is my favorite device. I have had an excellent experience. I am still pixel-elated. I have been able to customize my device to the level in which I like to use my phone. This phone has never missed a beat. Awesome experience!

    I totally agree. Seems that people would say more about something negative rather than what is "good" about anything in life. With that said, I am not sure about what to say. I own a Pixel Fold since August. I like it's size, and current aspect ratio. I like that it is a phone, with an option to use it as a tablet. I love that it's pure android, and the camera is great. What else would one say that would stand out? For me, it's just a damn good phone.

    I left apple for my Pixel Fold because it was half price and i didnt have to trade in my iphone. I love it. My issues all related to going from ios to android and not the hardware. I cant see going back from a foldable phone. Also the shape gives me happy retro vibes

    I've owned my Fold since launch and while I initially regretted my purchase a bit, I decided to keep the device around this whole time as I just couldn't seem to part with it. Even when I switched to other phones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I found myself back on the Pixel Fold fairly quickly. Most of the gripes I had with the device were solved through updates. At the end of the day, the phone is very good and I'm fairly happy with it.
    Wishes for PF2:
    - Better chip of course
    - A snappier hinge/less visible crease
    - Better cellular modem for better reception
    - Louder speaker, specifically for phone calls

    I love the Pixel Fold. Despite being one of the many helpful of the Duo devices, I find myself liking the folding screen. Although, I use it much differently than I used my Duo 2. I do find that I miss the intuitive multitasking of the Duo devices. Other than that, the only thing I really miss is the physical dimensions of the Surface Duo but, it's close enough where I am not turned off by it.
    With that said, it's been hard letting go of the things I liked about my Surface Duo 2. I hope Google pushes out some feature updates that optimize multitasking for split screen and multi-windows. Give users a more customizable experience. Choice is always a good thing

    I love my Pixel Fold. I previously owned a Duo 1 and 2, a Galaxy fold 2, 3, 4 and just about every other flagship phone. Love the form factor of the PF. I use the front screen 90% of the time and it opens when I want more. Unlike the Galaxy Folds where I felt like I had to open it every single time because the front screen was shit or the duo where it just didn't even have one.

    I've had mostly iPhones all the way back from the 3G up to the 13 pro Max. I've had the LG G2X, the Note 8 and the beloved palm pre. And this is my favorite phone. It feels like I have two devices in my pocket at once. I find the outer display to be dang near perfect. Maybe next time slim the bezels down but other than that I find this phone to be almost perfect. I will say it's the only foldable I've had extensive use with but I've used other foldable from friends. I feel like most of the issues are glaringly obvious like the tensor G2 just getting too hot. It seems confused sometimes on what signal to use ie. LTE or 5G ultra wide. But can't if it isn't a fun phone.

    Pixel Fold is for those who care about software. MEANINGFUL software. It's also a device for those who enjoy seeing a device get far better than when it shipped.
    I've have the Z Fold and the Open. The Z Fold basically just have to open it to do anything. I thought I was ok with that. Once you have a Pixel/OPO you realize you just want a regular phone that opens when you NEED it to. The Open has some great concepts, but has software issues I just won't tolerate including notifications not coming through and limitations with the multitasking.
    I was not a fan of the Pixel Fold until I bought it. Then slowly I started to love it. The way the software handles the front and inner display as two halves is the best I've seen for compatibility. If you have an app that can't resize, this is a dream. It's the only phone that handles those apps perfectly since you can force them to stay in the front screen size when opening the phone. Don't buy it for the hype...
    Try it for the hype.

    • @hobbitpsi
      @hobbitpsi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've had Oneplus phones since the 7, and yeh Oneplus' biggest problem is software issues and always has been, like I remember the one bug that always frustrated the hell out of me was Bluetooth connections would always drop and disconnect. I've had the Z fold 3 and 4 and like you, thought I could handle having to open it for about 80% of phone usage, but that got annoying after a month. So... My next foldable is probably going to be the Pixel fold, but since it's been several months since it came out, I might just wait on the Pixel Fold 2 and that Tensor G3 chip that will more than likely be in it.

    • @elho001
      @elho001 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, software is the thing. Apple and Samsung make great harware, but are made almost to entirely unusable by their software.
      The notifications on OnePlus is the overzealous power management - yeu can work around that by locking apps in the task switcher. Unfortunately I can only lock 5 on my OnePlus 8 Pro and thus came to the point that the only option remaining for my next device would be a Pixel.
      The OnePlus Open seems to allow at least 8 apps to be locked though, which would be acceptable to me.
      How does the OnePlus Open handle apps that do not want to resize?
      From what I have seen you can choose for each app to be put into a 4:3 or 16:9 pillow box besides full screen. While more options including arbitrary dimensions would be better, this does sound a lot better than "front screen size" which would be very small pillow box that made the foldabe pointless.
      Personally, I am very convinced opening the phone for evey task is fine, because even the largest slabs are too small for me to use comfortably and fluently.

    • @hobbitpsi
      @hobbitpsi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@elho001 Opening the phone for every task sounds like a good idea at first, but in my experience it gets incredibly annoying after a while. Basically like to do little things you'd need to open it up as opposed to just using the front display. This is why I like the wider outside displays from the pixel and oneplus as opposed to the Samsung Fold. The Z Fold outside display is so narrow that I fat finger everytime I simply try to reply to a text.

    • @elho001
      @elho001 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hobbitpsi Thaanks for the reply. I am aware it is an extra step to unfold, but to me it is trying to find the lesser evil - even on a large (by market standards) slab phone such as my OnePlus 8 Pro typing (in apps that will not go landscape) is a major annoyance with quite some fat fingered typos that I always activate the magnificaton for to iron them out and get the cursor in the right position.
      On the go, I hardly do "little things" - any message that is not super urgent I nold off replying to until back home and can use my tablet.
      Among the larger things is e.g. consulting outdoor maps in OSMAnd, or searching the web for some info. Those two should do excellent on the square inner displays compared to the 20:9 visual slits that slab phones turned into, but given the price I am also trying to find out how using some apps that lend themselves less to the square screen would be like.

    • @hobbitpsi
      @hobbitpsi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@elho001 Honestly you'd think maps work well on the bigger display but the problem maps apps have with the larger fold displays is even though it stretches the entire screen it doesn't center like on a slab phone. Your marker will be on the right side of the screen and it centers like it's on a slab phone while the rest of your screen shows the rest of the map.

    I really like my Pixel Fold but it's not my daily driver. I do use it for some things, MSFT Teams, for example. I just found that since I use the outside screen of fold devices more than the inside, that I preferred having that screen taller.
    For background, my path from Z Fold 4 to Pixel Fold to Pixel 8 Pro was as follows. Between the Z Fold 4, which was my second Z Fold device and my last of many Samsung devices, the Pixel Fold form factor is night and day better for me. There's no question that I wouldn't buy a Z Fold, both because the form factor isn't as usable to me and because I prefer the Google ecosystem and Pixel devices.
    One reason that I prefer the Pixel Fold form factor over the Z Fold is the aspect ratio of the outside screen. For me, the Z Fold's tall narrow outside screen was a major shortcoming. It was just too narrow for typing and too narrow to use to see any documents, Although I used the outside screen of my Z Fold a ton more than the inside screen, which I really wanted for productivity and media. However, I needed to go to the inside screen much more than was natural just because the outside was too narrow. That wasn't how I wanted to use a foldable, however.
    So, I decided to try going back to a slab. Since I hadn't bought one for some time, I went back several generations to the Note 10+. As I found myself using mostly Google apps and realized that I would probably prefer Pixel, so I got the Pixel 7. When I realized how much I preferred Pixel, my the Pixel 7 was promptly returned and upgraded to a PIxel 7 Pro. My Z Fold 4 moved on.
    I would have bought Pixel Fold at launch if I could have, but it wasn't available in Canada. Because of how much I used the outside screen, I really wanted the Pixel Fold. I figured that hopefully the 2nd generation would be launched in Canada, so I continued using the Pixel 7 Pro. Eventually, I decided to jump thru hoops to buy the Pixel Fold. I really loved it and thought I'd keep using it. However, after many months, I realized that the larger slab was the right form factor for me.
    The realization that the 7 Pro would be EOL long before the 8 Pro and FOMO resulted in my upgrading the 7 Pro to the 8 Pro with a great Boxing Day deal.
    So, Pixel 8 Pro is my daily driver. I also don't think that I'd buy another fold, at least until the next generation of foldable technology. Since my Pixel Fold is my secondary device, which I still use for apps like MSFT Teams. I put the beta on it, which is another reason that I use it as my secondary device, to play with the beta, so it's not an expensive backup device, or one that I'd sell.

    Well I had the OnePlus open for about 30 days and I sent it back and I still have my pixel fold. I did it for numerous reasons that I'm not going to list here, but just know that this is why. If you really want to know the truth about these devices, you have to pay to play. You need to get these devices in hand for yourself and then thoroughly use them and make the judgment based upon your lifestyle and what works for you. There were a lot of things I really loved about the OnePlus open. Some of these things I really wish Google would use for themselves. However, my experience was always better using the pixel fold.

      @hardyanjan121986 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      It would be helpful if you can list down those reasons. I returned the fold because of the battery life and the experience using the letterbox shaped apps on the main screen. And now I'm using the pixel fold for the last 2 weeks and have been loving it very much.

    • @thetruthstand
      @thetruthstand 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hardyanjan121986 Here are the reasons why I sent back the OnePlus open:
      The Google Assistant, particularly the voice to text, is the best in the industry and I absolutely must have that because of the way I use it frequently on a daily basis.
      Tabletop mode on the Pixel fold is far better than on the OnePlus open. I can use tabletop on the outer screen and the inner screen.
      I just prefer the simplicity of the Google software experience. That is not to say that there are some settings and features on oxygen OS that I didn't like and wish Google had, but I still prefer the simpler os
      I prefer it split screen. Open canvas is a little clunky and overrated. I like how Google's split screen function works the same no matter what app you use. Open canvas was inconsistent.
      I also noticed that there were connectivity issues with the OnePlus open when I used it in my car. It would take a while for certain websites to load and it was consistent. The same websites had no problem opening on my pixel fold.
      I prefer the form factor. The outer display is the best of all of the folding devices because of its usability. This is a very underrated feature of the pixel fold.
      I understand all of the reasons why people like the OnePlus open and it's a great device. But I already have a folding device that I spent $1,800 on and I was not going to spend another $1,700 on a device that would have been my third device because I also have a pixel 8 Pro.
      This is what I mean. When I said earlier about lifestyle. The OnePlus open just doesn't fit my lifestyle. But that display was awesome. I love not having a crease and also that it opened flat. There is a lot that Google can learn from the OnePlus phone. With that being said, I still prefer my pixel fold because it fits my life better.

      I had Sammy fold 3&4, moved onto superior experience with surface duo 1&2, then waited for Oneplus. Found out the aspect ratio to be disappointing as they wanna be a better Sammy instead of a better Pixel, which leaned more normal width and closest to a surface Duo.
      So I rejected the OnePlus pre-order and went with the Pixel. Never had any early issues as I ran the beta from day one. For me Just superior day to day experience over others.

    For me my Pixel Fold is by far the best phone i've ever used, everything just works great, love the aspect ratio, and love no longer needing a tablet as my Pixel Fold has replaced my tablet entirely, and really processor is fine, processor power is a moot point in modern phones IMO, we're well past the point of it mattering anymore, well outside of gaming, of course I also will never touch gaming on my phone since mobile gaming is mostly just gambling with added steps and no chance of winning money, I use gaming devices for gaming, mainly my Steam Deck now.

Everybody won't like or prefer the same aspect of a phone, it's subjective to everyone. The Google Pixel foldable phone is a great phone it's just that the unfolded form is not fully ninety degree. That's a kink that need fixing for the next release. And the Pixel foldable should adopt a similar model of OnePlus Open multitasking functions and features. And finally Google Pixel need to optimise it apps function and eliminate letter boxing. The Xiaomi mix fold, OnePlus Open, Google Foldable and Samsung Foldable are the main folding phones that is making big highlights today and each one is relevant for different reasons. 😎💯💪🏿👍🏿

    The pixel fold is my first fold and my first Android flagship since 2019. I prefer the pixel Android experience and love watching it evolve on a foldable. I’m a tech nut and knew that the PF wasn’t the most refined device being a first gen fold from google and I have no real complaints about the fit and finish of anything about this phone. Tensor isn’t a max perf cpu. It’s a security suite and machine learning SOC which I honestly really like. The g2s security tops any current iPhone and I love that being a systems admin. Funny how none of the reasons I would cite was in there - reason deciding to wait for future incarnotions back then was it not opening 180 degrees (I now know it does with force, but I now also know how nicely the OnePlus Open snaps open) and looks like a prototype that was slapped together half assed, which at that price is a turn off. Oh, I do like thick bezels actially, you need to hold the thing, after all.
    If I had it, I am sure I would like it and the cited reason was the extra screen size it provides unfolded over a slab.

    Super interesting video! Another thing to bear in mind is that a lot of your audience will be techie people that can be very particular about what they will and won't accept in a device. Whereas I'm pretty sure if you put a Pixel Fold in the hands of a typical real person out there in the world, I imagine most would think it's pretty neat but would understandably recoil at the high price tag and/or say the form factor isn't for them; but they wouldn't care about the chipset, camera or bezels because for most people what the overall package of what the Fold offers is decent. It reminds me of the gripes people have had with Apple over the years for shipping iPhones with 720p or 60Hz displays where most users will look at the screen and think it's bright and colourful, because frankly it is. Not that criticism of devices from the vocal minority should be thrown out but, as you say in the video, it's important to view them in the right context.

    Pixel Fold, without a doubt, is the best phone I have ever owned. It is a great replacement for me for the Duo 2. Not quite as easy for multitasking with an app on each 1/2 of the inner screen. However, it does the job very nicely. I get great battery life, speed is very good, and the camera is very good and has done a great job for me during the holiday season. If you look for deals you can find them for a lower price and for a great form factor and a great tablet view, for me, it is a value.

    The only thing I would say is the multi-tasking software can be improved by introducing a dock like the Samsung fold. I returned my Pixel Fold shortly after getting it, and it came down to 2 things. 1. The Tensor chip. Coming from an iPhone 12 pro max previously, the Pixel Fold didn't feel as snappy as my older iPhone. Not the experience I expected. Gaming wasn't great with noticeable lag in games like Gensin Impact and Honkai Star Rail which are the two games I play most on my device. 2. App optimization. So many apps were not optimized for the bigger screen it felt like a "what's the point" situation, and for the price, those two things just left me disappointed. Not surprised that a first-gen folding phone doesn't get it right. Hopefully the Pixel Fold 2 will fix a lot of those issues.

    I really like my pixel fold

  • @KrisRogos
    @KrisRogos 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really like my Pixel Fold, but there is certainly a lot that could be improved. And I actually think the screen ratio is one of those areas. Though I have not used other folding phones, so it is possible that had I tried the different ratios, they would suit me worse, but let me present 3 arguments.
    1. In the last 2-3 years, I had the Pixel 6, 7 Pro and then the Fold. With each upgrade, I've gained size and pixels, and my enjoyment of the device and the productivity it allowed me to have increased. I strongly suspect this would hold true on an even bigger device (provided the CPU/GPU/battery can keep up).
    2. There are a few apps where the experience is significantly worse on both displays. News and social apps are the big issue; on the 7 Pro, I would see the cover image and 1-2 paragraphs of text. The cover display of the Fold has the same width but is shorter, so the cover images are the same size, but the text cuts off partway through the same paragraph. The inner display has a similar issue; either the image will get even bigger, leaving less text (sometimes no text). Or there will be wider than usual margins on either side. I've tried several news and reading apps and websites while I still had both phones, and they all had the same problem: the way their layout was designed meant that the ratio of main content to "floating" menus, headers, still images, or worse ads was worse on both displays of the Fold than it was on the taller 7 Pro.
    3. I know a lot of people like the current form factor because it is more one-hand friendly, but I don't see that in my experience; I still need to shift my grip just as often because while the phone might be smaller, it is heavier and just as wide. I think what might be skewing the perspective is that if I need to use a 2nd hand on the Fold, I'll instinctively open it because I might as well use the bigger screen if I have my hands full. This turns the experience into a nicer and more immersive one and, therefore, feels better than holding a normal phone with 2 hands for no benefit. Still, it doesn't make the experience less frequent than it would have been on a phone of other proportions.

      You can midigate your issues by changing the scaling of the screen and changing the text size and finally adjusting the specific app's aspect ratio all in settings. So your points are pretty much already covered except for the weight of the unit, which is a personal preference issue.

    • @KrisRogos
      @KrisRogos 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Maxx134a Not quite; I spent a fair bit of time adjusting my settings and testing news and social apps; the scaling or text size can't solve the width-height ratio. Because most phones are tall and narrow, a lot of these types of apps scale to fill the width with images/menus/ads and assume this will leave more than 50% of the screen for text. The short outer display and the landscape inner display don't handle that well.
      The aspect ratio settings work only for the inner screen; all they do is add or remove the margin. Even then, this is the opposite of solving the dead-space-to-content ratio; in most cases, it makes it worse. Multi-column layouts, or the ability to change margins for media while keeping text edge-to-edge, are very rare.
      To be clear, I don't have a problem with the weight. The main point I tried to make there is that practically no phone can be one-handed comfortably. No one could touch opposite corners without changing grip on anything larger than the Z Flip 5's cover screen.
      I love my Pixel Fold, but it is a compromised experience. If the Fold 2 was the same size, I would probably skip it, but if it was taller or just otherwise larger, I would almost certainly trade-in and upgrade.

  • @Maxx134a
    @Maxx134a 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Bottom line is the usability. All the others do not realize that the form factor needs to be first, for usability. In other words the ASPECT RATIO is perfect. Outer screen for one handed use, and inner screen in landscape mode. Second comes software. None of the others have the AI, RIGHT NOW! Not any future update. The Pixel Fold has it, giving more features in text, transcription, call answering, and camera, and photo options. Having fast camera shot and best natural colors makes it even more solid choice. Only those with experience in other foldables know better and come back to the Pixel for a "daily driver". I myself wend from uber narrow zFold3&4, to ultra wide Surface duos 1&2, to finally settle on the PixelFold, and to be honest, practicality is becoming more important than specs, especially in our failing economy, so Google better do something really, really good for me to want to leave the current Pixel Fold, as it just tics all the boxes enough for keeping at least two generations. 👍🙂

    Yes the OnePlus is the best phone but Google is incredibly close to them. Perhaps the most unrealized potential. Pixel is the only true first Gen phone. I can see them having the best foldable this year. Let's hope they figure out pricing. Came out at price of Samsung when they should have released at OnePlus price.

    I loved the Fold until the Pixel 8 Pro came out. I keep going back to the 8 pro for the AI features.

    To me it's unnecessarily too expensive

    When people spend 1800 on a phone, most will say it's great or convince themselves of it

    I had the Pixel Fold for a few months as a second phone and eventually moved it to my primary. My issue is getting from iPhone to Android because I am so far in the Apple ecosystem. All of that aside, I think foldables are the future and I love Android and iOS. I had a Z Fold 3 and 4 prior to the Pixel Fold in addition to my iPhone. On the positive side the Pixel Fold felt very premium and I like the aspect ratio. It took great photos and still has the best outer display ratio in my opinion. I think the biggest negatives are the lack of a stylus, and the Tensor G2 is just too underpowered. Google did a horrible disservice releasing this device with the G2 only to turn around and release the G3 in the Pixel 8 a couple of months later. I also think Samsung's UI is better and I did miss using DEX on some occasions but that was never a deal breaker. I know a lot of people pew pew'ed the bezels on the inner display but for me, they just disappeared while I was using the device.

      Just keep in mind that waiting for the G3 would have meant releasing after the Pixel 8 and then at that point the G4 would be 6 months away just like the G3 was. Whether it's Google or Samsung, these foldables release midway through a processors life cycle with the flagship bringing in the new chip. This is just how it's going to be, it's always going to be 6 months away from the new processor. Just like Samsung's.

    I eat up all the videos made and the pixel fold. I'm am iPhone guy. I get a new pro iPhone every year. I have an iPhone 15 pro max. But, Apple did not have a folding device if they did, this is a different conversation. I like apple. I like Android, more specifically, the Google branded pixel system i watch the videos and read there comments because i want to be aware of'issues' if they pop up. I was a day 1 adopter and I'm still waiting. Overheating? The p fold overheated once.. In mesa verde in 106 degree temps. So did my car. I don't have on my phones, so, that's a wash. Camera are pretty good. Durability is pretty good. I live in Arizona desert. Same and dust has not been an issue. Bezels..huh? Cost being old? Flash, everything is old by the time it's released. Floating window, ok, that's a good one. Anyone with half a sense of using a device can work around multitasking, even on an iPhone. Bottom line, for me, does the device speak to you? If it fits, it's a pretty good, pretty great, fantastic device. If it didn't, then it's a'meh' device

    And pixel fold probably still doesn't have HDMI output. No pixel phones do

      Not quite that simple, the Pixel 8 has the hardware for video out, you just have to root and enable it.

    Had the pixel fold for almost 30 days at launch. Very disappointed. Didn’t like the inside display for its “cheap” look and feel. Didn’t like that using it folded felt really bulky in my hand for a small outer screen experience. Certain apps that I used were not optimized. I didn’t use split screen mode as much as I thought I would. Videos were fun to watch though. Ended up being so frustrated, I switched to Apple after 3 or years of Google and got the iPhone 15 Pro Max and am just happy that everything just works again
