Good morning. When applying the sticker on the platter, is the goal to line the sticker up with one of the 'notches' and, if so, which one? The notch at 12 o'clock or the notch at 2 o'clock? Or does it simply not matter when I place it? There are little white markers at the 12 o’clock position and 2 o’clock position. Was just wondering if there were landmarks I could use when lining up the platter marker. Thanks. Thanks in advance!!
Great Content as always! I totally agree with you. I personally prefer a more simplified workflow and only 2 channels. The more buttons and knobs and features are fantastic, but for me just leads to confusion and worry about hitting the wrong button when mixing. Rev7 works best for an ol school cat like me.
Carlo thanks for all of the great videos you post! I've been dj'ing for a long time and working on getting back into it along with my live sound engineering. Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new. I want all of this in a standalone with 12" platters, the ability to put efx on stems and all the bells and whistles of the Prime 4+. Yes, all of them lol... Until then I'm sticking with the Prime 4+. I know no one reading this cares. But a man can dream.
Denon used to make standalone CD/USB players with 9 inch direct drive turntables. Denon DJ SC-3900, they work with CD, USB, HDD and MIDI, aswell as analyzing with Engine DJ. Denon still makes direct drive variants of their own flagship media players, SC-5000M / SC-6000M
@@djcarlo oh god ok im still rookie level with ddj 200 but no laptop only djay app on android tablet ..so i guess ill need to upgrade im tired of searching acapellas for certains songs, when you can just isolate it with a button 🤗
Hi bro, I hope you are well. I want to ask you, based on your experience, which one would you prefer for a DJ who doesn't use scratching as much, but rather in wedding presentations and such. Which one would you choose? RANE FOUR PERFORMER OR DENON PRIME 4 +
Fantastic video! Are the Performer's jog wheels plastic or metal? They look plastic yet you state at 2:39 the Performer is entirely metal. I tried the Rev7 earlier this year and returned it immediately due to the jog wheels being plastic and feeling extremely cheap and flimsy. Thanks again for the awesome video!
The top is the only plastic part if I recall right. The rest is either high-grade plastic, or metal. I'll need to check again, but they felt very sturdy
That's a constant in any tech industry I'd say! Cars, phones, gaming consoles, etc. Take this from a guy who was rocking a Nintendo DS all the way till the Switch came out haha
How is the jogs for beat jiggling ans spinbacks? Learning some more turntablism and scratching is why I want this unit over the Four... do the slip rings let you tune the feel for good backspins?
very cool video, thanks! I'm also thinking about buying a new set. The motorized platters really convince me because I come from analogue turntables and the range of effects and other possibilities are enormous in this model. However, a stand alone system also really appeals to me, especially because some can already stream via wifi. Does anyone know if there is a stand alone system with motorized platters too?
So far, no. From my perspective, the market is too small for anyone to release a motorized standalone. Plus, I'm assuming the costs would be astronomical haha
@@djcarlo thanks for your response. I should probably just try non-motorized platters. As a turntable DJ, I imagine that I'm missing something in the haptic feeling, but it's probably just a matter of habit.
One important question, at least for me, regarding the feel of the motorized platters...on the rev7 I found it quite hard to sync manually by touching the sides of the platters, slow down is no problem, but push forward/faster was difficult. I'm an old vinyl junkie and on the 1210s we had the spindle in the middle or we could slightly push the top of the vinyl or give it a smooth push at the metal on the side of the wheel if you know what I mean. Everyone had his own technique for it. I found it hard to get the feeling right in this regards on the rev 7, it was not as precise and forgiving as I was hoping for. I know we have the plus and minus buttons, they do their work and they do it good...but...it feels wrong to me to push a button to match the speed of my tracks. Is there a difference between the Performer and the Rev7? Is it "easier" and more precise on the Performer? 😬
Truth be told, there's barely any difference from how I felt it. I actually mentioned that at the start of the review. Nothing can really replace the feeling of a couple of 1200s, especially with the middle spindle to "catch up" with the beats if you ask me
How can I know if motorized platers are the best or the worst for me? Can you compare the four and performer platers? I never played with turntables so I don't if I going to have a better experience or if I should buy a rane four
Do you like how your non moving players are? Then stick with it! Moving platters (in my opinion) are for those DJs who prefer scratching and juggling! But if you don’t scratch, don’t consider it!
The controller is awesome, but the layout is what turns me off still ( I have no use for 4 channel any way), I'll stick with my Rev7 (You can use the scratch banks for Stem Separations by Mapping them, which I did and using clear protection around faders to protect the paint) and wait for Pioneer counter-act with their new surprise, we should already know its coming, it just a matter of time when.
Ohhhh, what don't you like about the layout? And fair point on the mapping, but I still feel like Pioneer should actually solve that paint problem instead of us consumers needing to buy more stuff haha
@@djcarlo The layout of the pad buttons not being in the middle but I understand what they did in regards or it would kinda been a clone of the REV 7 but four channel, So I understand them to keep as "Rane Distinguished Quality" from others, besides that its still a nice controller. The Rev 7 I'm cool with for now.
i have a flx4 and im looking to upgrade. should i go for the flx10, or the rane four? or should i spend all my money and go with the new rane performer?
Lol these ns7 comments are getting out of control. The performer is literally the ns7IV you're asking for. Numark is InMusics budget / consumer division. Rane and Denon are their prosumer brands.
OK. I have an Amazon account and I bought my rane 4 from them about 2 weeks ago that I'm sending back tomorrow for the performer but when I search on Amazon for the performer it doesn't show up but you have a link that shows up stating delivery July 10??? How is that possible that doesn't show up in a regular search???
I honestly cannot answer that as I really don't know. It might be a regional thing! My friends in The Philippines can access the link, but it doesn't ship over there, so it might not pop up in a search as well :o
Hey DJ Carlo! I’m a beginner and would like to specialize in R&B music like Soulection DJs, can you make a beginner video for R&B transitions please! Thanks!
Youll just need to follow my basic transition guides! I know they all use house/EDM songs, but the same transition techniques apply. Check out my video on mixing songs with no intro too
Hi, as the Rev 7 has such a week pick up when you let go of the platter, it's disappointing to hear that the Rane Performer feels the same... And.. yes I've tried using 2 pioneer slip rings & after market slips but in reality the R7 feels nothing like a SL12! The only way the R7 can be used is to hold the 7" platter with the lightest touch when you let go! Unless you enjoy watching the platter slowly trying to play catch up & equalise the torque from the motor below. It's catch 22... You can achieve a quick pick when only using a single slip ring but you lose the ability to perform a 4-beat spin back! Long spin backs & quick pick ups are very important to me in my performances. I'm so tired of being asked to play out on these Mickey Mouse toys on
Nothing can really replace the feel of genuine turntables, but I wouldn't call these ones toys. In fact, I can still do some pretty fun routines with these guys, without much adjustment! Maybe the feel of motorized jogwheels just isn't for you 😊
I'd actually consider higher end controllers to be professional equipment! But if you mean CDJs and mixers, the tutorials and techniques I've put up, like beat matching, cueing, transitions, etc all apply
@@djcarlo Yes. the issue of software, file analysis and the technical side is the same. I mean limitations on players such as three hot cue points or four hot cue points. The displays of older players are not colorful and do not have such a clean waveform view. Which gives us mixing mainly by ear. As we know, not everyone can afford the CDJ 2000 or 3000. The CDJ 900 is expensive and does not have a color LCD. I'm learning to mix on a denon sc2900 and a djm 800 mixer. I also have a ddj 400 but I prefer to mix on my denons. now it's a lot easier for the DJ. and I'm making it difficult for myself... Valuable tips from you would be useful. You are a very good teacher.
I just want spinning platters for the occasional non TT session...like the occasional ftee gig for benefit or personal block party Is the performer or rev7 recommended for a better feel, or would the rane one suffice?? My norm is 1200 mk5s with rane 62 mixer
@@djcarlo yeah just saw it on the Website. thanks for telling me, thought about buying a rev7 when it released but as im a rb user and didnt want to switch to serato i stuck with my xdj rx2. Might have to think about that now, i really enjoy using motorized jog wheels...
That's the last wall Rane has yet to breach, but realistically, a processor that can really do the dirty work for stems (main selling point of the performer) would drive up the costs even further
I have a question, on the rane one we all have this problem with the fx pad get broken so easily that we have to open it and fix it with glue and trim and was a hassle. Is the fx pad solid, and in a good quality?
That's okay. lol what i meant was a beat matcher? i swear i saw one on dj controllers. i guess what it does on the controller is well, make the songs i have on where the music is stored and match the beat for you. Does that exist on any dj controller? i wrote you a novel. lol sorry but i just wanted to make sure i saw what i saw. 😁
@@djcarlo that's right, a BPM where one song blends into another? It automatically beat match option or am I mistaken? I'm still a beginner. Going to save up for a Rane performer or pioneer something. I'm still looking.
I mean we all know that Pioneer (Alpha Theta) will release a new Rev revision with 4 channels, new faders, new effects, dedicated stem controls, etc...
Of course! The FLX10 followed the Rane Four (though the 10 was just the next iteration of the DDJ 1000). But the burning question is: what's the price gonna be?
@@djcarloyou and I both know Pioneer pricing for their flagship products is always at a premium. They don't have to price to be competitive because they've established such a loyal fanbase of DJ's/producers throughout their existence. They've established so many different ranges of controllers for every type of DJ's budget. I'm going to say the price for their new 4 channel Rev revision controller will be in the ball park of $1,699. What say you?
Probably higher actually. Given that the REV7 dropped at $1900, adding 2 more channels and stems buttons is probably gonna push it up by at least $500 I'd say. But still, I'm ready and waiting to see Pioneer's (and even Numark's if ever!) answer
@@djcarloyou're probably right. I can def see Pioneer (Alpha Theta) pulling the classic new iPhone Pro/Pro Max pricing shtick when it comes to them introducing their new 4 channel Rev revision controller. Also, the Rev 7 (new condition) is still holding strong at $2,000.

Now I have to relearn how to beatmatch due to the moving platters
It's a new challenge altogether, but it's fun isn't it?
I just got the Rane 4 and I’m happy but I love this too
The Rane Four in itself is an excellent controller!
These Rane controllers work so well with Virtual DJ
Indeed! They were designed to work best with Serato, but VDJ works great with them too!
I want all of this in a standalone with 12" platters, the ability to put efx on stems and all the bells and whistles of the Prime 4+. Yes, all of them lol...
Until then I'm sticking with the Prime 4+. I know no one reading this cares. But a man can dream.
This will probably happen in the next 10 years! Dj technology is moving forward!
Lol are you going to every review and posting the same comment?
@@atypical_blk_guy lol... Yes, yes I will. 🙌
@@atypical_blk_guy Noticed that too.
take my money now! wowza NICE! great review thx
Awesome right? They tried to hit all the notes with this one!
@@djcarlo Hi Carlo, is this mapped for virtual dj yet?
So no more searching for accapellas since you can isolate them 🎉🎉
Yup! Well, it's actually been possible since 2022, and moreso with the Rane Four last year. But now, with motorized jogwheels, even MORE is possible!
@@djcarlo oh god ok im still rookie level with ddj 200 but no laptop only djay app on android tablet ..so i guess ill need to upgrade im tired of searching acapellas for certains songs, when you can just isolate it with a button 🤗
Are we going to see a standalone CDJ with stems soon? It seems like controllers are miles ahead of standalone players.
Hopefully! The way things are going, it'll probably happen sooner than later!
Hi bro, I hope you are well. I want to ask you, based on your experience, which one would you prefer for a DJ who doesn't use scratching as much, but rather in wedding presentations and such. Which one would you choose? RANE FOUR PERFORMER OR DENON PRIME 4 +
Prime 4+ if you don't need to scratch!
Ok pioneer and hercules. Time to step up to the plate !! Let's see what you guys come up with ! What a beast of a controller. Awsome review Carlos!!
I've got my popcorn ready for their clap backs!
Damn and I just got the rane 4 2 months ago
It's still a good controller! It does like 90% of what the Performer does too
The faders stick when you add a little bit of pressure left or right, are there fader replacements for this board ? Who else feels this?
Ohhhh, I didn't feel that. Might be a side effect of the new way the channel faders were designed.
It's so fun, my first setup since 1200s in the 90s 🐇♥️
Indeed! Just all in one, solid machine. Way more convenient to bring around! Haha
A lot of people have Rev-7’s now. I wonder how many people will sell it for the Rane Performer. I know I won’t.
We'll see! There are also a lot of people who don't have the REV7, but are looking for a motorized jogwheel controller now
Nice work, I like the video, you be killing it
Thank you! So, what did you think about the Performer?
I have the Pioneer Ddjsx2 since 2014 but this one is so fucking awesome #Flawless love it ❤️🇲🇦🫶
It's intense! This has to be one of the biggest drops of the current decade if you ask me, especially if you're an open format DJ
would installing an innofader still be better then the mag fader?
I’m not a fan of the innofader. I prefer the mag fader!
Xd they releasing new controllers and im still here struggling trying to save and get the FLX4
That's a constant in any tech industry I'd say! Cars, phones, gaming consoles, etc. Take this from a guy who was rocking a Nintendo DS all the way till the Switch came out haha
Long time viewer, first time commenting. Your review style, editing is first class. I really enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you so much! I really wanted to go over and beyond when I started with this channel, so im glad the efforts are worth it 🤩
Like my rev 7 more , having pads on the mixer is a way better workflow . I also have my pads mapped to stems so its exactly the same thing .
That's fair! I do enjoy the pads being in the middle too for scratch routines, but I'll have to admit, the Performer puts up a good fight!
Great video. I’m glad I bought one. 😁
Awesome! Can't wait for yours to arrive 🤩
How is the jogs for beat jiggling ans spinbacks? Learning some more turntablism and scratching is why I want this unit over the Four... do the slip rings let you tune the feel for good backspins?
Yes they certainly do! Check out my exhibition video, but to make things short, they feel amazing and work as any other turntable.
very cool video, thanks!
Thx for a great, and informative review. God bless kababayan.
For sure! More of these coming soon pre!
Thank you so much for the information ❤❤
You're very welcome! Hope you enjoyed the review and like the Performer!
imagine doing your 3style world mix on this (if you still have the song files haha)
Easy! That would be fun hahaha
This is the first non-Pioneer controller that I heard of that is Rekordbox compatible.
Oh, you must've misheard. It's mainly for Serato, and the mention of Rekordbox was about the REV7
@@djcarlo Oh, OK. Thanks for clearing that up. My bad lol
Nothing can really replace the feeling of a couple of 1200s, especially with the middle spindle to "catch up" with the beats if you ask me
@@djcarlo thanks a lot 👍
If you love Serato DJ and don’t like scratching get the Four. But if you love Serato DJ and scratching, get the Performer
@@djcarlo so i shouldnt get the flx10? I should only Think about the rane four?
Sad that Numark had abandoned NS7IV. InMusic is always prioritizing Rane now since they’re acquired them.
Lol these ns7 comments are getting out of control. The performer is literally the ns7IV you're asking for. Numark is InMusics budget / consumer division. Rane and Denon are their prosumer brands.
I have to agree! The Performer is pretty much the current iteration of the NS7, though with the screens on the jogwheels
Probably because of Ranes’ reputation of build quality being more popular than the numarks! Numark lost its reputation in the early to mid 90’s!
Is the Performer have better and faster processor than the Four?
I'd say so, just due to the extra features
Now which laptop should i use to perform with this beast ? M1 is enough?
Yup yup! Just make sure it's got a good RAM on it
hey man can u do a mix on the rx3 planning on buying it soon i really want to see how it is
I did one some time ago! It should be under one of the Mix With Me videos
Check out my video on mixing songs with no intro too
Does unlock serato dvs if you plug your turntables in?
It should! I wasn't able to test that function out yet, so ill get back to you there
no it doesnt! extra 100 dollars/pound that was one thing i wasnt happy about! i have 2 reloops they sure look nice either side tho!
I approve it!!!!
Great controller, isn't it? One of my favorites!
I’m trying to pay attention but that Daytona keeps taking my eyes off the ball. Awesome watch!
Hahaha, glad you appreciate my little tan line cover 😅
I'm so tired of being asked to play out on these Mickey Mouse toys
on
Nothing can really replace the feel of genuine turntables, but I wouldn't call these ones toys. In fact, I can still do some pretty fun routines with these guys, without much adjustment! Maybe the feel of motorized jogwheels just isn't for you 😊
RaneOne did not have screens on the Jog. Where did that come from?
Did I say Rane One? I was talking about the Rane Four the entire time! I don't think I mentioned the One at all in this video
I understand your question. Here’s your reply: Rane got inspiration from pioneer’s rev 7 - first motorized dj controller with a jog wheel display.
It has 4 decks at the same time but the jog display only shows you 3?
Can it display all 4 decks simultaneously on the jog screens?
If I recall, the display will only show the actively selected channel's wave form.
thx this is really cool however I am waiting after new controllers with the stems function from pioneer
Indeed! The FLX10 only has 3 stem functions. Serato can do 4 different channels, so I wanna see if Pioneer will add more buttons
Dj Carlo. I suggest you make a series of tutorials on how to play on professional equipment. what do you think?
So tha diference between rane fou and rane performer are the platters?
The biggest upgrade? Yes. Though there are many more I've covered in the video
@@djcarlo cause i already got mi rane four. So I dont need to change it . The rane four its good?
I just want spinning platters for the occasional non TT session...like the occasional ftee gig for benefit or personal block party
Is the performer or rev7 recommended for a better feel, or would the rane one suffice??
My norm is 1200 mk5s with rane 62 mixer
The Rane Performer would be the closest I'd say
Since when does the rev 7 Work with recordbox DJ?
I believe there was an update a few months ago. I mean, finally, after 2 years, right?
@@djcarlo yeah just saw it on the Website. thanks for telling me, thought about buying a rev7 when it released but as im a rb user and didnt want to switch to serato i stuck with my xdj rx2. Might have to think about that now, i really enjoy using motorized jog wheels...
Does this have a mic talk over option? Where the music lowers when you talk on the mic?
I believe so, but let me check again. I recall the Four having it
What program recommended for downloading music???
I recommend checking out record pools like BPMSupreme, Crate Connect, and MyMP3Pool
I wish they made a standalone unit
That's the last wall Rane has yet to breach, but realistically, a processor that can really do the dirty work for stems (main selling point of the performer) would drive up the costs even further
Mr carlo ..help me ,better ddj 400 or flx4?
Go for the FLX4
@@djcarlo thanks 🥰
Does it work with DJay IOS
For now, not yet natively. But, the dev team from Algoriddim says it's possible to map it to Djay Pro
@@djcarlo thanks for the info
Pioneer needs to come back with their clap back for the flex 10
Right? I've got my popcorn bucket out hehe
@@djcarlo but seriously record box just updated to 7.2 and there is still no improvement to the stems what is really going on?
Would the rane performer work with the rane 12 or 6000m?
Yup yup! Plugging them in to channels 3 & 4 should make 'em work
@@djcarlo and what about the rane12 please
I have a question, on the rane one we all have this problem with the fx pad get broken so easily that we have to open it and fix it with glue and trim and was a hassle. Is the fx pad solid, and in a good quality?
Fx pad for this and the rane four I’ve been using have been pretty solid
@@djcarlo thank you so much for your answer, thats help a lot. This performer is a beast.
I have a question DJ Carlo, Should I buy the Pioneer Dj Flx6-Gt or Hercules impulse t7?
Both are good! Depends if you want 4 or 2 channels!
@@djcarlo Thank you so much? 😊
Fire!!!
Gotta love the Performer for all that it has to offer!
Now I’m pissed I got the Denon Dj Prime 4 plus because this has Stem controls and much more damage
Ngl, this controller goes hard. But the Prime 4+ is great on its own merits too!
Sorry to ask a silly question but, does this controller have a BPM matcher switch, knob? Just wanted to make sure thank you. 🤔
I'm very sorry, but what do you mean by BPM matcher? Like sync? I'm not sure if I understood the question right haha
Hi carlo.
İ decided to buy ddj flx4
İ am a beginner
Is there anything you can suggest me?
Many of my videos here detail what to do as a beginner DJ! Check out my basic tutorials 🥳
@@djcarlo thank youu
I'm glad you answered me
I mean we all know that Pioneer (Alpha Theta) will release a new Rev revision with 4 channels, new faders, new effects, dedicated stem controls, etc...
When do you think this will happen? Thinking of ditching my Rev 7 for this badboy i need 4 channels!- but knowing my luck il buy and pioneer will announce the Rev 10😢
I know this is off topic but what two record pools do you recommend? I used bpm supreme in the past.
Crate Connect is another good one!
@@djcarlo create connect is good 👍🏻. Thank you.
Hey carlo whats the best setting for reverb on rane four to sound like the djm or serato fx??
The build in Reverb effect is great! It actually sounds like the DJM ones, so just set it to your favorite parameters
@@djcarlo ive tried all parameters cant really get the actual effect to sound like the djm on its regular setting + 40%
