Something about pressure increasing stem cell activity and his telomeres lengthening. I'm not sure how long the benefits last once you return to the surface, but I think it's worth experimenting. I am currently living in Okinawa Japan. Part of the reason I think people live so long here is life is slowed down. Everyone walks places and the food is so fresh.
I saw that fella on diary of a ceo and somehow missed his age. I thought he was about 64 and looked 54 and I thought not bad at all. Then I come to find he's 44! I'm four years older than him and I don't even moisturise my face and I look younger 😂😂😂 I feel great now 😂😂😂❤

The problem with the "blue zones" is the same problem as Arizona. Back in the 1950s to 70s, lots of people with environmental allergies had doctors recommend they move to Arizona, due to fewer allergens. They did… and brought along the problem, by planting lots of trees and flowers to make the place look nice… thus increasing the allergens. If people move to "blue zones", they'll bring along their unhealthy lifestyles, thus defeating the point.

There really isn't any evidence that the "blue zones" actually exist. For example most of Okinawa's records (including things like birth certs) were destroyed during World War 2 so there was no real way to verify the claims of those who said they were very old. Once the cohort of people who could pass off as being born substantially before WW2 died off, the life expectancy of Okinawans plummeted.

My grandfather, a conservative Mennonite farmer, recently died at 104. He never drank alcohol, worked or volunteered until he died and had a close knit family and church community. He survived a heart attack at 90 years old and lived another 14 years. The man was a legend. He lived his whole life in south central Pennsylvania on the East Coast of the United States. He survived the 3-Mile Island incident, was born during the 1919 pandemic and survived the COVID 19 pandemic. Lifespan feels like a crapshoot, maybe you can take precautions to guard against some risks, but chance has to be a huge factor.
Well 3-Mile Island wasn't that big a deal as far as radiation. He probably received more wind blown radiation from all the testing done in the 40's-70's.

Tech bros hate the Grim Reaper cause he's so egalitarian. It's impossible to become immortal the moment you're conceived because one's genome can't be rewritten anything beyond a blastocyst. Only babies conceived artificially can there be some designer kids with significantly longer lifespans. Technology is usually agnostic and usually very helpful, but billionaire immortality is seriously dystopian. Many people who are millionaires (just a couple million, not tens or hundreds), are very much middle class. MAKING a million a year and HAVING a million are very different things. Making a million is rich, having a million is just having planned for retirement in the US.
Many Japanese seniors depend on the money from their monthly"social security" checks for survival. Losing this money can be devastating for a family, often seniors themselves. Because of this, it's not uncommon for someone's family to conceal their relative's death for *decades* not to lose the needed income.
I think Emma hit the nail when she mentioned "trends". if you want to do buccal fat removal to have a more "streamlined" face, that is fine I guess. but when you are doing it because all your peers are doing it and you need to fit in, or because you want to look like your idols to feel you have the same worth as them. that is when it starts becoming unhealthy. the problem is that the beauty industry trives on that, on showing how if you don't fit you are nothing, so you need to spend your hard earned money to fit.
A few years ago I saw a 'Horizon' programme (iirc) on ageing, and one of the researchers said that he believed that the first person to live for a thousand years is alive now!
I'm with Emma when it comes to eating the rich, so long as the meat isn't too fatty. That said, whatever their personal reasons might be for their actions, it's very possible that some useful medical information, useful to the rest of us, could emerge from their efforts. So in a sense they are subsidizing medical research from which we could all potentially benefit. Personally, I suspect they could do a lot more to benefit society if they put that money to more directly positive use. But we have no effective mechanisms for forcing them to do so.

Okinawa is an island far southward (26N) from mainland Japan. They tend to have a laid-back attitude toward life, at least compared to most Japanese. When the rest of us Japanese learned about their comparative longevity, the media's response was "By golly, it must be the food!" I mean, Okinawan food does have its benefits, but I'm guessing it's the warm climate and lower stress levels that do most of the heavy lifting.

It kind of reminds me of a short story written by one of my favourite czech writers. It´s about a guy who not only wanted to be healthy, but to become the embodiment of health, so he moved to a town that, according to his research, had the best birth vs. death ratio in the country. (Spoiler alert for fellow czech literature freaks) He became ill the second he entered the town, just to be told that people who had to live in that damp and miserable place usually travel out of the town when they feel it´s their time, so they can escape just for a moment before they pass away. And that´s the only reason the cemetery is almost empty. Who want´s to live forever? Forever is our today.

The call themselves "Party for scholarly rejuvenation research" in German. The poster went "Say, where you want to live in 800 years?" and further explained the party strives to invest in research that makes us live for several millennia.
Ahh, the Loma Linda Blue Zone. They are the outlier when it comes to alcohol consumption, they don't, at all. Even at communion they use grape juice, not wine, as two millenia ago grape juice was harder to obtain vs wine which could be obtained at any time. My source? I was raised SDA in Southern California right next to Loma Linda lol. I'm out now, my time and money are for: my family, my friends, and myself! I still help out with charity, but nothing ever tied to religion as they tend to put conditions on receiving aid.
Even if all the anti-aging measures actually work, it still won't stop someone from being mangled and burnt to a crisp in a car wreck, or any traumatic event that results in death. Lots of folks do in fact end up expiring that way, not of natural causes. I acknowledge that I might go out that way even though I prefer not.

My grandfather, a conservative Mennonite farmer, recently died at 104. He never drank alcohol, worked or volunteered until he died and had a close knit family and church community. He survived a heart attack at 90 years old and lived another 14 years. The man was a legend. He lived his whole life in south central Pennsylvania on the East Coast of the United States. He survived the 3-Mile Island incident, was born during the 1919 pandemic and survived the COVID 19 pandemic. Lifespan feels like a crapshoot, maybe you can take precautions to guard against some risks, but chance has to be a huge factor.
Well 3-Mile Island wasn't that big a deal as far as radiation. He probably received more wind blown radiation from all the testing done in the 40's-70's.
Actually the red wine thing we’re pretty sure most of that correlation was from that some non-wine drinkers don’t drink wine because of pre-existing medical conditions and conflicting with medications they’re taking for pre-existing conditions and once you adjust for that most of the effect disappears…

The idea of the super rich living forever is genuinely horrific. Imagine the ten richest people alive today living forever, hoarding more and more wealth and resources, taking more and more from everyone else. Forever. As of 2020, those ten richest men possess more wealth than the bottom 3.1 billion people in the world combined.
Millionaires were super rich back when touch tone phones were a new thing. In 10 years they'll be middle class (if thats still a thing by then).
Many people who are millionaires (just a couple million, not tens or hundreds), are very much middle class. MAKING a million a year and HAVING a million are very different things. Making a million is rich, having a million is just having planned for retirement in the US.

Many Japanese seniors depend on the money from their monthly"social security" checks for survival. Losing this money can be devastating for a family, often seniors themselves. Because of this, it's not uncommon for someone's family to conceal their relative's death for *decades* not to lose the needed income.
I think Emma hit the nail when she mentioned "trends". if you want to do buccal fat removal to have a more "streamlined" face, that is fine I guess. but when you are doing it because all your peers are doing it and you need to fit in, or because you want to look like your idols to feel you have the same worth as them. that is when it starts becoming unhealthy. the problem is that the beauty industry trives on that, on showing how if you don't fit you are nothing, so you need to spend your hard earned money to fit.
A few years ago I saw a 'Horizon' programme (iirc) on ageing, and one of the researchers said that he believed that the first person to live for a thousand years is alive now!

I'm with Emma when it comes to eating the rich, so long as the meat isn't too fatty. That said, whatever their personal reasons might be for their actions, it's very possible that some useful medical information, useful to the rest of us, could emerge from their efforts. So in a sense they are subsidizing medical research from which we could all potentially benefit.
Personally, I suspect they could do a lot more to benefit society if they put that money to more directly positive use. But we have no effective mechanisms for forcing them to do so.

Okinawa is an island far southward (26N) from mainland Japan. They tend to have a laid-back attitude toward life, at least compared to most Japanese. When the rest of us Japanese learned about their comparative longevity, the media's response was "By golly, it must be the food!" I mean, Okinawan food does have its benefits, but I'm guessing it's the warm climate and lower stress levels that do most of the heavy lifting.
Far south? It was within single engine aircraft of Kyushu, maybe on a one way trip. It is say the distance between Washington DC and Atlanta Georgia.

It kind of reminds me of a short story written by one of my favourite czech writers. It´s about a guy who not only wanted to be healthy, but to become the embodiment of health, so he moved to a town that, according to his research, had the best birth vs. death ratio in the country. (Spoiler alert for fellow czech literature freaks) He became ill the second he entered the town, just to be told that people who had to live in that damp and miserable place usually travel out of the town when they feel it´s their time, so they can escape just for a moment before they pass away. And that´s the only reason the cemetery is almost empty.

The call themselves "Party for scholarly rejuvenation research" in German. The poster went "Say, where you want to live in 800 years?" and further explained the party strives to invest in research that makes us live for several millennia.
Ahh, the Loma Linda Blue Zone. They are the outlier when it comes to alcohol consumption, they don't, at all. Even at communion they use grape juice, not wine, as two millenia ago grape juice was harder to obtain vs wine which could be obtained at any time.
My source? I was raised SDA in Southern California right next to Loma Linda lol.
