Abhirup Guha Roy, I salute you for the responsibility taken by you. One more point I want to add when we choose our representatives in democracy, it is clear that majority party will rule the state and party will also lift the aspirations of majority only then he will come in power again and again. Jyoti Basu did the same. He also done many great works in begal for majority. There are many state which are not industrialised but their per capita income is higher than industrial states because of other source of income, low population density, migration of people to other place for better jobs, enterprising nature and where political rivalry are detached from social rivalry and not so staunch. I am from Bihar and lives in Gujarat for 20 years and conclusively say that if Gujarat is developed the major reasons are enterprising nature of Gujarati, no hesitation in migrating to other country and state, high investment and low lavish expenses, solution minded, less social conflict. Of course better infrastructure electricity by govt have been given but this is also main demand of people here.

My former Bengali boss used to say that any Bengali who has made fortune has made it outside of West Bengal.
Edit: I'm not saying Mumbai or any other city or state is perfect, but genuinely thinks Kolkata have missed the bus somewhere which I am hopeful they will come back.

    Being a Bengali living in WB for almost 2 decade. Top 3 reason according to me;
    1. Partition
    - Most of our industrial region went to Bangladesh.
    - Value of ports in Kolkata decreased.
    2. Border issues
    - Illegal infiltration.
    - Illegal cross-border trade.
    - This results in stagnated growth in border areas.
    2. Left rule
    - Lack in proper ideology (or no vision).
    - Almost no development since last 30 years.

@Sujan Mondal brother,India's largest organised sector industries are in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka because their were no left and communist government in the past and congress ruled this states for majority of time which stayed away from appeasement politics in the name of welfare schemes.
So Maharashtra is largast contributor in direct taxes which is nearly 40% of total collected tax from states.
      Followed by delhi(11%) Karnataka (10%).
But in case of BIHAR(0.65%)- third largest population, UP(3.5%)- largest population, Bengal (4%)-fourth largest population. You can see that they hardly contribute to direct tax revenue. If you doesn't improve tax base and tax collection how the government is gonna get money for development and infrastructure.

In one of the above comments i talked about tax contributions from different states and in that how much our nothrn states like up, bihar, West Bengal are lagging because large percentage of population is involved in agriculture and primary base sectors.

Socialism in capitalistic economics is the way to go. Socialism on itself is an utopia that doesn't work because humans are corruptible..unlike other states such as tamilnadu which has socialistic policies but has capitalistic outlook to it too. @@yethir7327 true, it is a delicate balance. One needs to study what happens in US compared to Nordic states which have higher standards of living but virtually every piece of tech we see around originates in US and a miniscule amount from Europe. Even in the US the states that give the most handouts and where there are more taxes have the highest number of homeless people. Socialism succeeded only in the Israeli kibbutzim, but people left kibbutz as more wealth got generated and today because of a free and democratic society, Israel has the most tech startups outside US.

USA has also has had a head start in several departments, but then look at the nature of development right now, is USA really building its wealth? The salary growth rate has been slow and the inflation adjusted income value shows lesser buying power to people. And no, countries like Switzerland or more innovative that USA and have socialistic outlook to their structure too. To dismiss Nordic countries which have the highest happiness index and then making a point about produce alone as the prime idea dismisses the other parts of USA such as invasion, exploitation etc. I do not see where you draw this parallel while comparing when you literally see development in south indian states where the socialistic policies have done good

What are the prices of important medical goods and services which are so high cost there that people literally come to India to do their treatment. Because the society has build politically we are united to each other. You hv seen this TATA nano projects where lands were captured illegally and handed over to TATA. Whole state supported to this movement People from every villages, town join against TATA. There are multiple examples of that. But what problem with you is your society are not united. Divided into race, cast due to which no one care what is happening with farmers, vegitable vendors, labour, home less peoples. Not a single news network covers that except NDTV. Which expose the dark reality of behind richness of maharastra and gujrate.

The bullet train project so called "development" displaced hundreds of farmers from their ancestral land, there land has been forcefully captured. They were crying infront of news camera and screaming for helps but again no one to help them. The only solution is to push the communism in these two states. Then it will be clear like day light about how this two states becoming richer by political mafias like BJP.

Britishers used to cut the fingers of Weaver of Dhakai Muslin Saree, the then most fine Saree in entire world. Even there was a gteat Famine in Bengal in 1943 that was artificially caused by Winston Churchill. Still after the independence Bengal flourished a lot so far as the Industries are concerned under Congress era but people were starving. The wealth was captured by few Rich. Then the violent Naxalite Movement took place by 70s and Industries started to fly away. Uniformed People assume that the trade union of CPIM party stopped Bengal's Industrial growth but it's false. The reason was Naxalite Movement, much before CPIM came to power in 1977. Even Naxalites used to kill CPIM leaders equally. Jyoti Basu massively decreed Lands from big Zamindaars and Distributed them amongst Landless Farmers that is called the famous land reform of Bengal, unique in India. And Bengal again started to flourish. Still Bengal's GDP is higher than the average GDP of rest of India. Thank You for making this video.

Social polices have time and again brought down civilizations, cause of misaligned incentives. It does not incentivise innovation, but bigger government and imbalance of power which corrupt and power hungry people step up to take. It's a death spiral

Sad to say this but after todays election result, people of Bengal have rejected for a change, after suffering for so many years people should realize that gov change (Be is BJP or Congress) can get some changes to the society which will in turn make an impact on their children's future. There is no investment in Bengal for so many years, students are leaving the state to get IT jobs. I have many friends who are Bengali and they are supprised to see how developed Mumbai, Bangalore is. People are responsible they just dont want the change.

Bhai I am also from Bengal but living in Pune. Problem yahan ye hai k BJP ke paas achche local leaders nahi hain jo ki logon ki problems samjhe and address karein. Only hindutva mudda nahi hota, Bengal me real mudda industrialization tha, but unfortunately kisine address nahi kiya. Jaise aapke Maharashtra ke local leaders jaante the ke logon ko exactly kya chahiye, isliye itna developed hai Maharashtra.

During 2007 Bengal was leading in agri sector being top rice, vegetables and jute producers in the country. Then government decided ki bas agriculture se kuch nhi hoga state has to push for capex. Graduates are leaving the cities and going to other states. Asansol, singur, raghunath pur, haldia belt was selected. Mou were signed with compaies like Tatas, dalmiyas, Balajis and PSUs like NTPC, Bhel, DVC to make bengal a manufacturing hub. Increasing haldia port capacity would revamped the infa of entire eastern India. While cities were chosen as IT hub like Rajarhat, saltlake in South Bengal and siliguri in north bengal. The work did started with great response from the companies but land acquisition was the main problem. I am not going into politics. The Jyoti basu government use to practice such things like working more towards society than corporates. Land reform is an example where land from zamindars were distributed. Buddhadeb govt faced political dissent when opted for industrialisation.

Heard that siliguri has started again. And it would be turned into IT hub of North bengal. Rajarhat and salt lake has already progressed a lot. And plans of making a silicon Valley in New Town and Rajarhat is going on. Just hope development actually and not just stay on paper or initial phase.

Even though I am 19 y/o from Kokata. I didnot know so much about my state. Thank you so much for making us aware of the facts. Actually bengal has been politcally sound and the corruption in the last 10-15 years has increased a lot due to which the development of bengal has been affected. Big industries are no more coming to bengal. Whichever politicians come in power after this election should try to make things right and make imrovement. Also the young generation (including me) should start taking things i our own hand by starting big business and industries which shall employ a lot of people.
