@@sukknn Just because the government declares Dindigul, Kanchipuram and Kumbakonam as corporations, they don't become a large city. For that matter, even Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh have labelled many underdeveloped, overpopulated, dusty, stinking towns with pathetic infrastructure as corporations. A big city should have the necessary infrastructure, services, amenities and aesthetics that make it one. Also it should have a mature population with a decent civic sense, open mindedness and progressive mentality. Going by that, Tamil Nadu has 5 "big" cities - Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchchirappalli and Salem. Kerala has 6 corporations, but only Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram can be called big cities. Same with Karnataka, with 11 corporations, only 5 of them can be called "big" cities in the real sense. I don't even consider giving a city tag to god forsaken places like Kalaburagi & Vijayapura.
Odisha has broken out of the poverty trap, most of the eastern India students aspire to study in odisha thanks to Naveen patnaik's governance, otherwise it was really poor on par with Bihar
I am from rural part of Bihar. Let me tell you one thing,in past 10 year Bihar has grown significantly or I should say exponentially. Around 2013 ,my uncle sold lands at a cost of ₹1000 per decimal, today after around 10-11 years, it's ₹45000 per decimal. I am talking agricultural land in a village. Back then, even being living in a village tola barely away 1 km from NH,we didn't had rural pucca road,we didn't had power connection through poles,or cover wires. Today we have pucca road constructed under PMGSY and Power connection almost 18 hours a day. Bihar has sort of stabilized, but to a larger extent still today the majority of rural population depends on remittance sent by their labourers boys working in Banglore,Tamil Nadu,Delhi NCR,Mumbai, few to Patna. So,our growth of rural people heavily depends on remittance sent from other states.
Two more generations of UP and Bihar will become labourers. You guys are good voters . Your representation in Lok Sabha will also increase and South will lose it. And then you guys can amend Constitution also. No need to bother about South India because their representation will anyways decrease. Keep breeding. UP and Bihar is the Africa in India.
Instead of developing only tier one cities let’s move to tier 2 and tier 3 cities so that economy is inclusive and evenly grows. For example Tamilnadu has nine to ten cities the industries have been moved so the development is taking place all over the state.

I think the CM of WB should take the consultancy services from Mr Sanyal. He is a very knowledgeable human being and his knowledge could be utilized for the betterment and upliftment of Bengal/Kolkata. He should be hired for providing economic growth policies for WB. If PK could be hired by WB (Party) for Election/Roadmaps for TMC policies, then why Mr Sanyal cannot be hired for WB's economic growth? We need to understand our priorities.
he will recommend stopping or limiting freebies. he will also recommend streamlining proceses and removing bottlenecks. both are fundamental ways in with her party generates black money. efficiency is like poison to tmc. its like asking fungus to clean up the filth on which it is growing.
Problem with WB is that their leaders are at the most street activists and not statesman/ woman. They basically caters to them selves and party cadres rather than serving the state. Neither they bother to develop the state. Their concern is to remain in power at any cost . That’s why they focus on controlling rather than development. It’s not that they didn’t have good and competent people to run their state. E.g: Amartya Sen. Amit Nandi of FICCI etc but eventually none could deliver due to lack of vision and good intent.
I think Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal should write a book on Continuous Process Reforms, so that future generations can also understand and keep on resolving these ongoing problems. Mr. Sanyal, You are doing very good work, please keep at it, as along as you can 👍😊
Goa and Sikkim must now concentrate on building knowledge economy. Given the lack of performance by Bengal and rest of north east India, Sikkim can be an educational hub. Similarly, Goa can become an education hub, given the fact that both its neighbours Karnataka and Maharashtra are industrial states, Goa can become a great educational hub!

Sir, Successful businessmen have been politically connected, whether in a state or central government, and they have paid a high price for this connection. We need more apolitical specialists with unrestricted authority to put an end to this chaos.
It was not social justice politics, it was the proximity of sea route for Chennai which has made a significant city even before that! Investment in education by Kamarajar helped a lot. Privatization of education by MGR boosted the higher education! Social justice warriors simply watered down education in govt schools and creates less qualified people hence the fight for NEET.
I would actually disagree on having one super city driving the economy of a state as it increases regional inequality. This is a classic case in Karnataka where Bangalore is exceptional but the rest of the state has lots of catching up to do. I would argue that TN and Gujarat’s models of having multiple high level cities is more sustainable and equal.

Odisha's maritime is far older than the cholas. Please read up your history. There is an entire area named Kalingga in Java. Forget that , an entire kingdom of Kalingga was established in central Java based on the ancient Kalinga Kingdom that too in 500 ce. Cholas came much later(9th century onwards). Ever wondered why there was such a blood bath for Kalinga? It controlled the seas. The bay of Bengal was called as Kalinga sagar. Even Chanakya has mentioned the trade several times. There are many similarities in the culture found in Java, Indonesia and Odisha. Heck we even celebrate Bali Jatra ( Journey to Bali). Many few people know because we odias do not show off, but boita bandana is a festival which we celebrate, which is unlike any festival in India completely dedicated to the maritime history, similar festivals are celebrated across Indonesia, Java and Thailand. Sadhabas were known for their maritime skills. And I donot need to write about the link between Kalinga and Sri Lanka, refer to Mahavamsa when you get some time, all due to the maritime prowess of Kalinga. And I may add Lothal, Gujrat is even older than Kalinga when it comes to maritime trade. It's from the Harappan times! It's not always about South and North. Odisha is in the east btw. But do not bend facts. South had trade routes nobody denies the same but there is incredible history found everywhere. Be humble.

Bravo Mr Sanyal you said it right good students of West Bengal are all moving out of Bengal and less educated semi literate those doing odd jobs are happy as they are enjoying government beneficiary scheme along with whole family doing some odd jobs and earning enough then there need. The victims of today’s Bengal are literate mediocre middle-class sacrificing all ambition aspirations . In Kolkata illiterate carpenter earns Rs 40,000 a month and Graduate or PG person earns Rs 15000 a month in shabby small business houses. Unless we create good opportunities for mediocre middle class through industry or expanding our IT sector nothing is going to change It’s high time our political leaders fall in line and accept the reality and work towards the path shown by Mr Sanyal
Its not Telangana that did well, but erstwhile Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu....Now we are throwing challenge to all the states of our country that Andhra Pradesh will reach top 3 position in less than 10years....We are coming massively...
He has outlined the problems, yet once again, we see no real solutions. Successive governments have failed to create a solid blueprint for restoring West Bengal’s lost glory, allowing its decline to persist. Ironically, certain so-called intellectuals seem to find a strange satisfaction in publicly criticizing Bengal, perhaps to enhance their reputations. But has Mr. Sanyal, as a noted thinker, truly identified concrete areas where West Bengal could once again lead and contribute to the national economy as it once did? Pointing fingers at the people and government for engaging in protests and sloganeering falls short of addressing the root issues. We must remember the historical impact of Bengalis in India’s renaissance-challenging social inequalities, advancing education, and producing countless freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for our country. Post-independence, however, successive governments drained Bengal’s resources, diverting them to other states in the name of socialism. Instead of creating shared prosperity, this approach has left Bengal economically vulnerable, while nations like China, though we may disagree with their system, have demonstrated the transformative power of effective policies. It’s time for an honest reckoning, one that goes beyond superficial criticism and seeks genuine solutions. We need a collective movement to address the structural issues and unlock Bengal’s potential once again. Let’s be clear: calls from certain sections of the public for undemocratic measures, such as imposing President’s Rule or orchestrating a public coup as was done in neighboring Bangladesh, are not the answer. What’s needed is a committed, constructive approach that involves all stakeholders-government, intellectuals, and the people-in charting a realistic path forward for West Bengal’s renewal.

I love Sanjeev Sir's to the point & straight facts. Also loved he mentioned Odisha's Balijatra History, people are taught about, Ancient India & its naval prowess much less, so Odisha's naval history is even less covered. One point I see is, while agreeing with Sanjeev Sir's views on Kolkata to get revived, I personally & many of my friends from Odisha, Assam & West Bengal, don't see Kolkata, being the anchor point for Eastern India's growth. What is happening or should be the goal, is the multiple small to medium anchor points being driving eastern India. Kolkata is too much in mud, when it comes to political, economic, forward thinking etc.... Cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Guwahati, Ranchi etc..... will be much better than multi-diseased affected Kolkata, let Kolkata sort its own mess, which is easily going to take 10+ years if not less, considering if everything goes smoothly, without the current political scene that is damaging West Bengal. East can't wait for Kolkata to gets it act together & then move forward, time for other states to work hard & be on the development path, when eventually Kolkata recovers, east will, hopefully have multiple anchors & not just one. I only wish for Kolkata's recovery, but its also prudent to know the mess is so deep, it will take considerable time, effort, energy & dedication, and the change will only come when local people take the charge for real & not submit to TMC's goons & past CPI's act, which was similar.

A big city should have the necessary infrastructure, services, amenities and aesthetics that make it one.
Rohingyas and bangladeshi also grown

We are beginning to have a serious debate and concern about the absolute necessity of economic growth and rising economic standards. The alarming thing is the abysmal thinking about these things at the state level. I do not see these among state level politicians! Politics at the state level is the politics of personal and family aggrandisement.

This system of voluntarily closing company offers big industry to close shell companies. Very smart move
Culcutta busines was controlled by Marwadis. They moved to mumbai or delhi. May be the reason.
I am from West Bengal and what he is saying is absolutely truth.Left and Tmc ruined Bengal. They are extremely antibuisness.

@The Neon Show - The day India removes its rose-coloured glasses and steps out of its colonial shadow-recognizing that true independence means making tough decisions for its own future-is the day it will rise once again, like in the days of the maharajas. Then, its billion people can truly take their place in the global community of nations.😎
Thank you sir, for mentioning Southern-India (which actually it is)and not south-India.
In an army formation HQs, I did a similar thing by "deleting" about 700 useless Reports & Returns. So much saving of energy, time, stationary, headache on both ends as well.
Hi Sanjeev, hope you are doing good and praying you do well.
Let's be very clear, if you want India to prosper, Southern and Western states along with Lakshadweep Islands & Andaman Nicobar Islands should simply get separated from Northern, Eastern & Northeast states. 45cr people in South West contribute more to our Economy than 100cr people in north & east regions. South Western India should become India/Bharat while North & east should become Hindustan or whatever they want.
He is absolutely right.
It's always an enriching experience to listen to Sir and an even more admiration for the work that he is doing, especially corporatisation of the government sector.
About Goa, there's more to it than tourism, it's also about the culture and ancient architecture of temples and the religious fervor with which certain practices are still maintained. Here though it's the North and South - Goa divide that persists.
Also a special mention needs to be made of Switzerland and many such European countries which have a place on global map mainly because of tourism and dairy farming - there indeed are some takeaways for us as a nation
India needs Administrative reforms more than Economic reforms. We are still administrated by the same bureaucratic structure that the Britishers used to Loot India and make it into a pauper state from the second largest economy we were during Aurangzeb era.
Sanjeev Sanyal is trying to tinker at the peripheries of administrative reforms. A complete over hall is required. For example the Thanadar, Tahsildar and DM system of administration needs to be changed where these officers are not held responsible for any mistakes they make and hold power without responsibility, they have no responsibility to enhance growth. And are rarely punished but have a secure life long security.

1. Continuous depreciation of INR against USD and its consequences particularly on direct tax-paying middle class.
2. What do the direct tax-paying middle class get in return after paying 30% direct + 10-15% indirect taxes?
3. What policy changes are Government thinking of to increase the tax base?
It definitely feels nice to see India growing up on several parameters but at the expense of what? Honest tax-paying salaried class?
