Well for all the 4 door not likers, the V8 engine doesn't know if its a 2 door coupe or a 4 door sedan! lol. The views are unimaginably beautiful! Your enthusiasm and positivity helps all of us : ) Husband is quite impressed also! V8 Nova's are cool!!! The early body styling is better than the later years, and back then you could still get a convertible!!

The coastal fog is caused by the cold water meeting the warmer air. It can get pretty dense. Normally burns off by 9 or 10 o'clock. It is very pretty to look at from above...not so much to drive in! So glad y'all are just taking your time to be tourists. The Hwy 1 drive is spectacular. Your video is like a travelogue.
Nana will always remember the trip and reward y'all for her experience.

Correct, it takes longer to warm up the ocean water than the land surface, hence the ground fog.

Emily, your enthusiasm on this trip is so infectious, I had to get another booster shot!😀All kidding aside, I'm reacting the same as you. Those cliff side majestic views were clearly breathtaking! I'm reminded how similar it looks like the Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento coastline in Italy. Brings back fond memories! And the Nova looks better and better under that California sun. Take care my friends, enjoy and savor every minute, I am.👍👍

For love the of water on the east coast, you should come into Canada and check out either the rocks at Peggy's Cove Nova Scotia by the Atlantic Ocean or along the Fundy Trail Parkway from St Martins New Brunswick along the coastline on up to Waterford and Alma New Brunswick. Scenic views of the Bay of Fundy. If you love beaches and the water and coastlines you'll love these drives too. My sister loves the water and coastlines.

I really enjoyed taking this trip with you. While in the Navy I lived in Monterey for three years. 59 until 62. Then work kept me in Mission Viejo for 14 years. Texas for 18 years. Back to middle TN which is home for the last 18 years. I have been on your drive a few times. Sorry you missed 17 mile drive between Monterey and Carmel. Really beautiful back in the early ‘60s. I hope you have another video of the rest of the trip. You make it so much fun to see again. Happy you were careful while walking on the cliffs. They can be dangerous. Thanks for bringing back so many good memories.

Such a beautiful trip! You two are bringing back a lot of memories for me. My wife and I took our honeymoon down the coast from Seattle to San Francisco, two weeks of pure bliss, in a convertible Mustang. We returned to San Francisco four years later on our anniversary, and continued the trip down the coast, from SF to LA, again in a convertible Mustang. The only negative was that my wife was in her first trimester with our daughter, and she had morning sickness something awful along that curvy drive. Wonderful memories, though. She passed away unexpectedly one year after that trip. I've always wanted to take my daughter back to the west coast and show her the places her Mom and I got to see...

I live in Northern California next time you come this direction go from San Francisco to Eureka you would go up starting on Highway one I would suggest stopping in all the little towns, especially Mendocino. It has an incredible view. The town has wooden plank sidewalks in front of all the knickknack stores, and you can also go out to the blow hole near the ocean you can continue north on Highway one until Until it runs into 101 and then end up going possibly to the drive-through, Redwood tree in Ligget, continuing north, confusion, Hill, and then through the Avenue of the Giants. It is an incredible drive all the way up to the Oregon border. I would suggest taking as much of the old highway as you can when you’re on 101 it runs you through miles and miles of several hundred foot plus tall redwood trees that are absolutely beautiful . it does tend to be foggy along the coast like you had experienced down by Santa Cruz but it is always beautiful.

"that's when you know when you've cornered too fast!" ROLF
back in my college days, my buddy was driving a Volvo back home and lost a drive shaft (!) when we were going downhill. We knew this because the darn thing passed us ... since we were going 65 mph (the highway speed limit in Massachusetts) we wondered if we would get a speeding ticket because our "car", or part of it, was speeding ...

The section of the PCH between Carmel and San Simeon is known as Big Sur. It's one of the most beautiful drives anyone can take. When you get down towards the southern end, stop in Cayucos and go to Duckies Chowder House at the bottom of the ocean pier. Fantastic seafood. New England and Manhattan Clam Chowder, and insane fish and chips with your drink of choice. It's a great place to stop for lunch or dinner. I stop there every time I drive through Big Sur.

If I recall correctly, that coast road from San Fran to LA has been used twice as the final scene in a movie. First was American Gigolo with the sound track "Call Me" by Blondie. And the second was in Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner". Harrison Ford and his android girlfriend Rachael, played by Sean Young, take off down the coast road determined to enjoy as much of life as they can before Rachael's "time to die" arrives.
I remember being stuck by the contrast between the dark rainy city scape where most of the action happens and the brilliant sunshine they drove in.
It's ironic that you are driving a Nova along the same road. Cheers.

Seriously you two, do not swap out that 283. Awesome little engine that punches way above its weight. In a light Nova the lack of torque will not matter. The Powerglide however would probably be best swapped for T350. Then again the Nova is light so that super high 1st gear shouldn’t be a problem. My wife and I did the PCH from SF to LA a while ago and it was beautiful, apart from a parking ticket in Monterey. Thanks this epic series.👍

The PCH is a beautiful drive from Oregon on down. Now think how inhospitable it was for the mariner with it for a lee shore trying to beat into a west wind or find a safe harbor to get to with a gale blowing. Those rocks will rip the keel out and send you straight to Davy Jones's locker faster than you can say all hands on deck to shorten sail and come about!

Thank you so much for bringing us along on this adventure. As breathtaking as this footage is, I can only imagine how it is actually being there. The little Nova just looks like she was made for that type of cruising.

Coastal or Sea fog is usually a result of advection fog which forms when relatively warm, moist air passes over a cool surface.
When this happens, the cold air just above the sea's surface cools the warm air above it until it can no longer hold its moisture. This forces the warm air to condense, forming tiny particles of water which forms the fog that we see.
The impact, location and movement of coastal fog depend upon a number of conditions, including wind strength, wind direction and land temperature. If the winds blow in from the ocean, the fog will often rapidly cover the coast in a blanket of fog. If the land temperature is warm, the fog can quickly dissipate as the parcel of air warms. However, if the land temperature is cooler, the fog can linger for a longer time.

DAM YOU Aaron!!! Its 3 am and now I want a big ole beef steak tomato sandwich with mayo, lettuce, salt n black pepper and a side of Brussel sprouts sautéed in butter n garlic. and I have NEITHER!!! Our whole country has beautiful locations. The left coast has its own unique landscapes and sights not seen anywhere else. Like where I live. I am close to Letchworth state park in N.Y. and this place is absolutely stunning in the fall with all the colors. There is one section that has three huge water falls and one place with a railroad trestle crossing over 50 feet above the water. Then there is the Mount Morris Dam nearby too. There are several companies that do balloon rides during the season. Might be a cool thing to do for your channel at some point.

When I was in the Navy I was stationed at Point Mugu. It was about 45 miles north of LA. Part of my duties was driving people to and from LAX. Every time I would ask them which way they wanted me to go they said PCH. I only went about 60 miles or so north of there. I had a 77 280z 2+2 then and it was never happy.

Many of the youtube car channels do this drive up to Monterey car week, but they use this -drive as about 10 secs of B-real. Glad you did it justice.
