I am now a household of one, and one cat. I try to keep it to around $30 p.w. including toiletries for me, and $10 for the cat, including cat litter, litter tray liners, wet food, and dry food. Her dry food is the Hills Science Diet (as per vet's advice), which costs round $72 for 4kg. That lasts around 3 months. It's getting harder. I mostly buy ingredients, rather than any ready made or prepared foods, although I do have some tinned items, like tuna. I make my own bread (65c per loaf). I don't have to cater for other people's tastes or wants, which must increase the grocery budget for families. My one vice is coffee, and I buy the pods from Aldi. I prefer to shop at Aldi, but do get some items they don't stock from Woolies - but only when they are on special. I like to see what other families buy, especially those with school age kids. I spend 300 weekly at woolworths and dont get even close to this much. But hubby drinks too many energy drinks and eats into my budget. Im gonna go and check out Aldi.
