I never tried drugs (nor do I ever intend to), but that makes perfect sense. It's like falling asleep on a jazz gig, dreaming about very weird things and then getting woken up by a drummer's solo.
i love how the transition between live and programmed drums is so seamles. plus there's lik a 50% chance we switched continents somewhere between these two live drum recordings
16 years ago this was the first song that thoroughly blew my mind to bits. Sent me to a different reality forever knowing that this song exists out there
If this genre and style is new for you, I have to tell you.. You've got a beautiful journey ahead of you Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Autechre, Oneohtrix Point Never etc... Just golden
ok, story time: so, there was a time in my life where i didn't think this was my fav idm song (at the time i thought it was analogue bubblebath by aphex twin). or my fav squarepusher song (at the time i thought it was do u know squarepusher). or even my fav song off ultravisitor (at the time i thought it was andrei). i already luvd this song, but 1 time i listened 2 ultravisitor in its entirety 4 the 1st time & it immediately became: - my fav song off ultrasvisitor - my fav squarepusher song - my fav idm song - my fav 2000s song &... - my 3rd fav song of all time. my 2nd fav song is sunday morning by velvet underground, 1st fav song is baba o'riley by the who. yeah just great job tom, great job.
Patricia dear child, as soon as possible I would buy a white horse and ride to your place. I would be your prince. I would save you !! Hold on my dear !
Mexican taco master nah i know exactly what he means, with the progression, you can envisage like a perfect next chord or note or whatever, and when he goes there, its satisfying to have had the foresight ^^
I see your point, It´s like when during a speech you think about the possible words to come and then they happen. Well I kinda receive an stimulating response.
well aint that what communication is all about, but its the feel of it that matters the most, like did you guess he was going to soak everything in reverb or to cool down down everything after etc etc ? dont overthink it, just know it and thats it
years ago when we first heard it a freind and I said it was superman flying over the world soaring higher and higher into the air and breaking sound barriers, but I like yours too ;)
this is the first song to thoroughly blow my mind to bits. Left me not knowing who I am anymore.. in the best way. Your description isn't even a metaphor for me. That's how it really is for me.... with a bass solo
I see you didn't read the release info at the time then 🙂 it said something like "although some tracks sound like they were performed live, things are not always what they seem"...and yes, I'm relatively old...
as far as i can tell this song has zero samples whatsoever! i really appreciate that, he's showing that he doesn't need to rely on amen breaks to get by
@@CatfishD He's not a drummer (at least not to my knowledge), he probably recorded a drummer in a studio and then sampled the drum hits, made a sequence out of them
@@CatfishD I wasnt aware, and given that fact its probably the more likely scenario. The reason i thought it was someone else who played the drums was because he often collaborates with drummers during live shows but i guess thats just because he cant play everything at once lol
Just heard this for the first time and I was blow the fuck away!!! I've been familiar with squarepusher and enjoyed a lot of what I've heard, but only recently decided to dig in and dedicate some space in my mind to take it in. Fucking phenomenal. And this is live 🤯
This is just one guy, right? How the hell does he do this!? Is he actually playing that bass? To what extant are the drums programmed? I don't even know how to process this music.
he is playing the bass. The rest is pre-corded, though replayed live with added effects, pattern shifting of all sorts. It is now not so difficult to obtain a "real" drum sound, although programming the patterns the way he does is extremely difficult and time consuming. Hope that helps.
William Clark yes. Very savant. He's like an engineer, a ph D in music theory and a killer bass musician. Check his bio. There's Aphex Twin which is a bit like him, although even more technical but less of a musician.
It sounds more complicated than it actually is. (he he) nah this is fucking mad man. Who are we. where are we. Who is really making this stuff. Im honestly trying to focus.
this music makes you feel something. not bout shaking ass, or selling cars or showing off how many bitches you got. it grows and flows take you on a journey
This is probably in my top 3 best Sqaurepusher tracks of all time. I really wish he would revisit the Style of Go Plastic, and Big Loada. After Ultravisitor everything was just kinda ok... and mediocre. In my opinion... the only thing even close to this he's done recently is Z-Machines - Music for Robots... which is practically a direct callback to this style [although unfortunately the Z-Machines drum kit is is very flat... and not nearly as lush as this]. It's also unfortunate that Z-Machines is just a one-off experiment.
Please check outy improv channel. Not as good as this but if you're into this you may like... I play every instrument you hear, i.e. doublebass, bass, guitar, violin, harmonica, tin flute, chello... except for piano and drums, and those I compose digitally...
When the acid kicks in and you're still stuck at that damn jazz concert
hahahaha that made me smile
Weirdly accurate description...Based on what I've read...lol
I never tried drugs (nor do I ever intend to), but that makes perfect sense. It's like falling asleep on a jazz gig, dreaming about very weird things and then getting woken up by a drummer's solo.
Don't fell anything jazzy. It feels that jazz now is a buzzword.

24 years ago Windowlicker did the same to me which eventually led me to Squarepusher.
Lll
So on the crazy off chance I'm in a police chase that will end in my death, this will be what is playing.
First time ive heard this song. I discovered squarepusher in general about 15 minutes ago. my life is changed.
try Autechre

yeah just great job tom, great job.
Update: this is my favourite song by anyone now
I just love how open he is with writing...its not about the machines people...its about the freedom to create...and plus its just stupid cool
this piece will always be masterpiece...
A pure delight. Tom Jenkinson,, you're a real gent and an amazing musician.
I dont really understand this music. But my mum keeps making me listen too it. I just want to play outside with my friends.
Listen to ur mum. And Squarepusher.
I hope your mum will set you free. Forcing one's taste is such a disrespect to a person and shouldn't be an action of a music lover.
I love it, but damn... you can't make people love things that you love. Just tell her you're not into it

Unbelievable progression! One of his best!
Shobaleader One played this live tonight.God it was beautiful.Glorious.
fantastic indeed!!!
seems to be a few from other shows, search Shobaleader One Tetra Sync and you ll get a few results!!
some of the key notes are predictable in very satisfying ways. its like hoping hes gonna take it there and HE DOES!
So, you were high? I mean, that was totally unpredictable for me, yet exquisite.

ceephax vibe lol
Sounds like the destruction of an old Universe imploding and the resulting mass and energy giving birth to a new Universe.... with a bass solo

Absolutely insane. Inspirational playing.
The ringmodulator! It burns!
Actually I think it was a frequency shifter now I come back to it. No lower sidebands.
Anybody noticed how the song starts out wit live audience on the background, but in the end there is not a single peep ... dat jaw dropping. :)
+Ernesto Epsilon Or maybe they mixed it out... lol
He probably got the idea from that one Charles Mingus record , where he is talking to an audience in the studio that isn't there.

Nils Frahm has "Says" like on KEPX and Squarepusher has Tetra-Sync
This track is cursed, my feet are moving by themselves!
Got to see this live last night it was fucking madness
Did he play drums live? I love the seamless transition from acoustic to drum machine. 1:56

beyond belief! makes my head spin

it isn't live, just made to sound that way ;-)
only the beginning is live recorded (I THINK), and everything else like the drums are sequenced, either way the transition is so good
When someone says "electronic music" - this is the song people should think of. Too obscure of a genre for the general public, but it's a fucking gem!
Bro, that's literally was in top 100 charts of UK. It's mainstream as hell.
@@Capewearer haha

exactly how its meant to feel , schizoid

yeah that whole era before he got too digital is badass /// Hard Normal Daddy etc. So musical!
angelic synths
As always, extreme sensitivity to bass and extreme sensitivity to everything in link…
