I like how the actors onscreen are clearly speaking English and were dubbed in Japanese later for the sole purpose of being subtitled.
Very Chris Cunningham
I've seen this video about two dozen times over a decade now, this is the first time of me knowing this, because of you. Thanks for making me feel like the biggest dumb ass in the world. Next your going to tell me, that Santa was actually real the whole time.😒
Cannot be unseen :( Thanks for ruining this video for me.
@@muzakdeep what
The only music video in the world, where sub and dub became one.
Fun fact, until just recently, I’d been searching for this video for nearly 2 decades. I saw it once as a child on a crappy CRT and would very occasionally remember it and try to search for it but could never find it. Convinced it existed I continued searching only to have the journey finally come to a lead thanks to 3seconds of video (not from this video) and the mention of Chris Cunningham in a video about claymation horror. From there I just searched through every video he directed until I finally found this one, knowing that what I remembered match the artistic style of that director. In hindsight, I think a lot of my artistic tastes were established and informed, at least in some way, by this one odd video I’d only ever seen once.
Did you by any chance see it on that old music video request cable channel The Box on Halloween? That’s the only place I’ve ever seen it outside of TH-cam.
type Lee Hardcastle, maybe close to your taste, hopefully.
Glad you found it again. 🤘
That's funny because for some reason this track has always stuck with me so every few years I'll lookup Squarepusher for this track
His Monkey Drummer video is always a wild one to me :D
What an absolute luxury it was growing up with things like this. :3c
Man, I sure do miss Chris Cunningham vids...it just doesn't get much better than this.
Chris Cunningham is a true legend in the music video industry.
From a time when you could actually be weird for the sake of being weird as long as the "product" was good.
I mean this and Come to Daddy, masterpiece musicvideos.
@@Exera80and all is full of love Bjork, Portia Head too! He will always be a pioneer.
@@MichaelOdomwest16thAvewhat happened to him? Had/has loads of talent. Should have gone onto feature films like his peers from that era. Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek etc
@@georgemulford2910 I’m with you, it seems like after 2008 he just went silent. I have his dvd set, it’s one of those things I revisit every few years….he literally got me into Aphex Twin before I knew the genre.
Window licker is amazing. After his DVD I didn't see much of him. Shame as he is one of the best film directors
just realized the dog is saying "nah sounds alright m8 sounds like goldie" ahahahah
Wondered what that said.
been trying to fig that out for years.
@@urilevi9575 "Oh, yes quite a sound(music), a bit like goldie" with obvious misspell in Japanese.
Don't sound like Goldie through lol....but then....Judged by colour, Kaiser Salsek, Hyena I or Chico - Death of a Rockstar....Demonz...hmmm.
@@Raydensheraj that's the point, it's Tom taking the piss out of people who have probably said that line to him about his music
the low-budget vintage japanese horror vibe of this video is absolutely crazy, along with the amazing music that gives me goosebumps every time i hear it.
one of the best music videos ever made. this is one of the videos i always waited for on mtv. growing up there was nothing like it.
same. and once it was on i couldn‘t decide if i should watch or dance.
There is still nothing like it
When was THIS ever MTV fare??
Only saw it on M2 myself
@@phoenixdavida8987MTV Europe
Chris Cunningham is a fu***** genius...and Squarepusher too. My favorite video since 1998.
6:29 One of the best moment in music history
@Behelit Both songs were released in 1997 and the Big Loada EP which COMS is on was released a few months before the CtD EP.
The video for CtD came before COMS, but the vocal audio samples in COMS all feature in the original track released the year before.
@@3rdStoreyChemist He actually says "I'm the fucking the fucking daddy"
It was famously said by Ray Winstone’s character in Scum, after going ham with pool balls in a sock.
This album is when music peaked for me. Nothing else really topped this era. Hats off, Mr. Jenkinson 🎩 💨
What? It's from an EP and it's not even Squarepusher's best from that era by a long way... are you confused and thinking this is a song from FMWT or Hard Normal Daddy?
The fucking break at 4:13 is absolutely insane, wow.
I remember watching this video on MTV's "120 Minutes". I'm glad I could remember the name Squarepusher, I haven't seen this since the late 90's! I remember the kids under the sheet with the dog's head sticking out at top. LOL Good memories.
Have you seen videos from Aphex Twin? They're neat!
@@konsumer Yes, agree
Amazing stuff. Britain really does produce some talent.
I'm also loving other various UK electronica based acts like
Aphex Twin, Autechre, Four Tet, Burial, Unkle, Massive Attack, Forest Swords, Allflaws
Get into Boards of Canada as well mate, it’s a richly rewarding experience.
@@shane54nz thank you. Will check them out

Surfing On Sine Waves by Polygon Window
everyone sleeps on Luke Vibert but he's legendary. Drum and bass for papa is an amazing album by him under the alias Plug.
Chris Cunningham DVD is a must
What the dog doin???
The 90's were peak electronica years.
this track is old enough to drink and it still bangs
From the time it was Friday night, all your homework was done and it was weekend and you put on MTV and saw video clips like this and you were mind fucked into total happiness!
Yes mate happy days. That was the era of other such epic videos like Aphex Twin Come to Daddy. And the uncensored version of The Prodigy Smack my bitch up.
Seeing the videos for "Come To Daddy" & "Teardrop" in the same night on AMP was 🤯
other than the fact this video fucks with my head to the point it feels like it's gonna explode I just love the fact that the guards are speaking English. it's then overdubbed into Japanese and translated back into English. WTF! Chris youre a legend
Legend 4 ever!
YES! I thought I was the only one who noticed this in the video!
to make it even more elaborate the dog is speaking a hybrid Grecanician Greek and Swahili language WTH
Love the akira nod too!
@@latenttweet There is absolutely no Swahili in there. Stop lying to these people. It's obviously a mix of the Samo and Marka language. I hope I don't have to explain to you why because it's obvious.
Chris Cunningham is the man! His vision in unmatched.
My favourite bit by far was the dog leg shaking bit. The editing and synergy with the music is masterful!
But the injection though 😂😂😂
Guitarists: "the bassist never gets the girl"
Bassists: 5:59
Bassists are cooler imo
Эту партию на басу исполняет сам Squarepusher лол)
The intro to this one truly fucks up my cat. He doesn't recognize where the sounds are coming from and thinks they're coming from outside. Job well done Tom!
2020; still one of the best music vids of all. 😎
For me personally, this was one of the points artistic creativity surpassed societies expectations. A true game changer.
Society is a tired and dull concrete block bereft of anything even slightly interesting. Creativity is where individuality flourishes
@@SamuelBlack84 yeah ok doomer. such asinine meaningless fluff. pretentious shallow platitudes help no one. All that fancy creativity and individually you speak of kinda exists within a society as they are composed of… you guessed it… individuals. I don’t even think you really know what the word society even means.
@@SamuelBlack84 what the fuck are you pretentious fuck babbling on about
@@urumomaos2478 Ooh. So much anger, so much hatred. I can see it frothing at the edge of your desperation for unspeakable cruelty
I haven't heard this in so long! It's as great as I remembered it.
ty rage for showing me this back in the day
Just fucking magic. I started with platinum breakz and progressed to here. The best education is free.
I haven't seen nowhere near as many music videos in the last ten years as I did in the 80's & 90's - and I know there are some amazing contemporary ones - but for my money I don't think anyone has ever surpassed Cunningham's work. A total genius, innovator and auteur. And a particularly perfect fit for the Warp artists he worked with, who were the same class in music as he was in film. Yeah, stating the obvious I know, but fuck me, just sooooo goood! Never get viewer fatigue!
A legend of chris cunningham...
Funny that some music videos are actually scarier than those new "horror" movies...

This is awesome
That's right.
YOU'RE awesome
Whoa, thanks for the great work Ryan!
Can you believe it takes until 5:58 for the main drop to come. Great track and video though. Akin to AFXs distorted breaks. So many drum patterns it's insane.
Classic!!!!
This video traumatized me as a kid lol. Looking back at it now this is awesome.
IM 42 now and still get flippin goosebumps hearing this
Kids don't know about this at all, only 30- and 40 somethings.
@A Fat Penguin Sure you do, because you've learned about it, but this is a rather forgotten piece (look at the number of views), It was shown on mtv in '97-'98 in late night programs, so it wasnt even widely known back then.
Aaaaaand i'm also 12.
@@ipiap Just like how the only people who have heard Mozart are 300 years old right?
I was 15yo when I watched this video the first time. Great Memories.
Holy shit, I was watching Reanimator and that's where the beginning sample is from and he copied the part where they are trying to get past the guard. Awesome finding this out 20+ years later
i love Re-Animator!!! how did i never notice this?!?!
My friend sent this to me in 2001 over MSN messenger. Life changed
bro same way I found him
In retrospect the best video of the 90s (not that I'd have doubted that back then)
Tough choice between this and Aphex Twin, 'come to Daddy' for my favourite music video!
i grew up with this kind of music
I remember seeing this when I was little
This..........is a classic.
5:19 Nothing more disturbing than a crazy looking little kid, and I love it. Amazing music video. Chris Cunninham is a genius.
I like how this is the best music and video ever produced.

mv and music is the goat
Homage to Aphex Twin at 6:28 ?
Andy Boily probably yes, also Come to Daddy directed by Chris Cunningham
Squarepusher's catchphrase "I'm your fucking daddy" comes from years before Come to Daddy. The usage of the word daddy on Aphex's side is probably to make fun of Korn.
You know they're good friends?
@@urfavoritehumanbean879 It comes from the movie Hell raiser!
@@urfavoritehumanbean879 actually "i'm the fucking daddy" comes from a 70s-80s British b-movie called "scum" that deals with kids in some sort of problematic kids school. throughout the movie a character who called himself "daddy" bullies / terrorizes / etc's the characters, so right before he gets killed the kid who's about to kill him says "I'm the fucking daddy" and then, I believe, hits him in the head with a baseball bat or something.
As for "let the bass kick" go look up that song by egma
