    I agree, every collector should have at least one Sovereign. Personally I love the older ones, but all of them have so much history.

      Yes I have to myself agree with you. I collect only up to 1974, that being the last one that I am only interested in. I may sometime get the new ST George and Dragon type, but they are so over priced, its held me back. I am more interested in the half sovereign, and very interested in the Australian types, mintage figures being very low. And I do love finding over dates, which are much rarer then then the full sovereign.

    A great video showing the importance of buying the coin, not the case... I have a coin worth about 60 bucks, but if you were to purchase based solely off what the PCGS label says, it’d be worth about a grand.

    Great show of the various types of the "bland" (to some) sovereign !
    I love them, as the traditional design throughout history may seem at first "bland" but look deeper into them, the variations are truly enormous.
    Interesting to note that all those proofs were in plastic envelopes and not capsules, is there any reason for that?

    I prefer the OLD British Sovereign. You can pick those up at "melt."

  • @eldanno5970
    @eldanno5970 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ll add almost everyone knows what a sovereign is, even those uninterested in coins, at least here in Australia.
    I’d bet if I put a sovereign next to my PM lunars most would have no idea about the lunar but would recognise the sovereign.
    Things might have changed over the last few years with a lot of new people getting into stacking rather than collecting but the history of the sovereign makes it pretty appealing over modern coins imo. Really can’t see how you could go wrong collecting sovereigns even if your reason is to stack and just own gold, there will always be a demand you may just have to find the right liquidity options rather than just walk into a bullion dealer.
    Anyway just my thoughts

    What makes a sovereign so special. Honestly I think it's pretty bland it's just a simple design. Compared to some of the American gold eagles much more design and detail goes into the coin

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The American Gold Eagle is highly desirable. The sovereign is special because it has massive variety, minted all over the world, about 12 different monarch portraits. Massively difficult to find world Rarities. Lots of stories and folklore...
