That 1798 large eagle is amazing. So what, it is a details grade. There is not a single person here that wouldn’t love to have that in their collection. It’s now protected and you have a fantastic coin. When I get my coins back if they come back details I am disappointed, but then I study the coin some more and try and see what the graders are looking at. I’ve only been collecting/stacking/hunting for 2 years so this is still a learning process for me. All in all some great coins for your collection, congrats!

About grading: Claims that grading companies favour clients who send large inventories of coins for grading are entirely speculative in my view. NGC and PCGS both have 'guarantee' as part of the registered name of the company. For them to favour the bullion dealers, who are already favoured by the US Mint for those 'Early Releases', 'First Releases', 'First Day Of Issue' etc coins in bulk, this would make a mockery of the ethics of offering a grading service guarantee. It would be extremely unfair to individuals wanting to use the same service. It would make no sense for a business to discourage potential clients(dollars) in this manner. Lastly: these companies make their money grading coins; not trading coins. They are more likely to give a discount to bulk orders; just like any other business. Great subject to bring up, Speg. It was time to clear the air on that.
Wow! That 1798 heraldic eagle dollar is beautiful. I am putting together a US type set. This time I'm going for all graded coins, PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. I have stayed with all straight grade coins so far. I'd be proud to have a dollar like that in my collection. The eye appeal on it is great.
@Mrs Spegtacular im doing well, im as far back as capped bust in some denominations . It's getting more expensive with each certified coin now. This is my fifth type set, but the first time I've determined to put it together with all certified straight grade coins. It's going to take a while.
NGC used to put the "improperly cleaned" designation on the holder. So did that mean there was such a thing as proper cleaning? I took it to mean if they cleaned it, "conserved it", it was acceptable. But if you or anyone else altered the surface in any way, it was a no no. I have a few coins I would like to have authenticated but I dread getting the devastating "cleaned" designation!
Nice, I like coin grading results... I like locking in the value also on these... Bro i love those world coins! That saltwater story is great! Wow ms62 on the 8 Real! That 1798 is AMAZING! Beautiful gold coin! Fully hustled on that "cleaned" gold coin. Man that's crazy long, I had a 17 day turnaround time with NGC, but I did only submit 7 morgans... Thanks for sharing...
Hi SpegTacular! FYI... If you use window clings to cover your grades, you won't get any of that sticky residue on your coins slabs. Legacy $tacker gave me this idea.
Some really BEAUTIFUL coins Speg! As for grading....I will NEVER be hired as a grader...but I'm blaming my bad calls on my tablet screen....so there! Only called one... ONE! The peace dollar was correct...every other one was way off! I'm really surprised they didn't automatically call the dollar gold as ex-jewelry... quite surprised! Great video Speg! Looking forward to more! Take care, be safe and God bless!
Hi Jim i must say i was disappointed with your disparaging remarks about your coin grading skills. No one is born with these skills. Some are born with the aptitude to remember details and have excellent visual acuity but most people (even our current experts) had to study and learn coin grading from the bottom up. This takes time and hands on the coins. There is no reason you could not learn how to grade coins subjectively and accurately with just a few hours of reading and research. Sheldon scale graphic (pictures of grade scale condition AG-MS70) coin scales of the coin you"d like to grade help a lot when just starting out. You will quickly learn the visual grades most commonly found for each coin you study within a few numerical positions. As I conclude id also like to say that a coin cannot truly be graded from a picture or a video. Luster, strike and eye appeal can only be evaluated in person with coin in hand. A well educated guess can be made from pictures or videos but really no true coin expert would stand behind a grade of a coin in a picture. So keep going keep learning and you someday will be the best coin grader ever!
I belong to NGC...I like NGC....but I won't submit any more. The varied "handling charges", costs in general, and the fact they won't cross ANACS has soured me on submitting. PCGS is just as bad cost wise, but at least they'll cross ANACS.
You had a 1793 Spanish coin graded but taped over the NGC number. I wanted to see what they valued the coin (8 Reales) at as I've got a 1782 of the same coin.
Thanks for sharing. - this was great! I will tell you your opinions are spot on. I think they are a better deal if you submit with a coin show. I also think that taking coins to a dealer to submit for you with their larger order is also a good way to go. Finally, since we live in FL (not everyone is that lucky) we can drive them and save on the shipping. i am also in the tampa area and they are in Sarasota. Gas could be a wash…. You picked great coins to submit. BUT, if you have more modern coins or coins you plan on keeping and not selling them ICG is a good way to go. Coin Guy likes them as well. They were started by some former NGC graders about 25 years ago. They do a great job and validate them and protect them the same as all the other services - for half the price. Also, they do not have pricing or price guides. This is nice since they have no reason to control populations. NGC is my favorite to collect and buy. Thanks again
I’m glad you said how they charge a percentage of the price for expensive coins , I’ve been saying this is a rip off and what right do they have to cash in on other peoples money like that for ages , that’s a scammer dog trick but you are the very first utuber who has admitted they do this thank you 👍
I miss my old coin dealer down south. He would send your coins in to be graded at a far smaller price than what you would be charged if you sent them in yourself ( of course you had to wait sometimes. He gathered many coins to be graded and then sent them in, but your savings were fantastic) Nice haul Speg. And thank you for sharing.
The Scratch Marks on the 1798 Draped Bust are consistent with silver reduction by the mint. The plug was probably too heavy. The rake like deep marks are typical of 1794 - 1803 coins weight reduction I've seen many. The 1804s were made in 1836 for a diplomatic mission for kings like Oman & Thailand. Big book on that journey.
You always have nice stuff. Funny I turned in 19 coins at a show. I was most upset with the cleaned ones. But then I also felt cheated by not getting a box. I spent 675
Send the common morgans to ANACs next time. The grades will be the same and they'll only charge you 13 per coin. The Gaudens really surprised me at 65+ . I saw wear ( from 5 o'clock to 8 o'clock) on the reverse that had me at 58-61 making me think it may have circulated. No one gives 60s anymore, you'll either be rounded up or rounded down. I'll need to review it to see how I missed so badly. The draped bust was beautiful. I have the same coin, also came back XF details from PCGS. Thanks for the share on the reveal.
The graders at ngc & pcgs are not told where a coin comes from whether it be a bullion dealer or an individual, this information is purposefully withheld so that graders can be as unbiased as possible during the grading process. The reason why Teddy Roosevelt did not want the motto on, Money could be used for immoral things. Almost reminds me of Roman Brothel tokens, and the story behind it, or the history. Basically the Emperor was seen as a god. The Cult of The Emperor. Tiberius did not want coins with the image of the emperor to be used for brothels. Do not know how true it is, but a cool take on history
its getting harder and harder to find a good place to sell silver or gold this time next year. say goodbye to currency. all you need is the mark .. no more subject to opinion...!

Basically the Emperor was seen as a god. The Cult of The Emperor. Tiberius did not want coins with the image of the emperor to be used for brothels. Do not know how true it is, but a cool take on history
Anything can be used immorally.
I thought they would put on the label restored something fishy
I think you have done better with PCGS. At least you would have gotten a plastic box. And better .service
Maybe next time I’ll try them.
So did you pay $75 each for the grade. Man that is a lot of money!
No it was much less than that. Although, the gold $20 Lib may have been close to that since the conservative effort they charged for
its getting harder and harder to find a good place to sell silver or gold this time next year.
say goodbye to currency.
all you need is the mark ..
no more subject to opinion...!
grading is not a joke. it cost allot.
Yeeeeeee

Sounds like your entire experience was shady af.
Some of it was really annoying for someone submitting for the first time.. shouldn’t have happened.
I feel like they’re rushing and missing steps.
Hallo sir
Hi
@14:37, Now, that's a beauty!
How long did it take to get them back?
It took just over 2 months.
I had them at the post office on February 1st and I got them back on April 12th.
@@Spegtacular Thats about what PCGS has been running as well. So at least they have sped a little bit hehe.
A few of those , you would be better off to crack out in my opinion 🤔
