I don't want any of this "Kaizo" garbage. I don't want some stupid thing that you have to play each part of a level 300 times just to memorize the thing because it's not that it's hard, just a stupid memorization thing. Good hacks are just new levels that are well designed.
Thanks so much for the love for 2kaizo2learn! This is a great list, and I'm loving the comments already. Always great to see people getting in to kaizo and to see how eager the whole community is to help them out!
Good list! :) One thing I would say, as someone who tried that path (had to stop due to life issues... it happens haha) is don't treat Learn 2 Kaizo and Kaizo Kindergarten as things to "complete" before moving on. Good chunk of the later stuff you will not see until you start digging into much tougher hacks, and can really wear you down if you're inexperienced. Treat them more as a thing you come back to when you need to learn/practice things.
Man thanks for this, kaizo Mario has been one of those things that seems fun but also way too intimidating to just jump into, so I appreciate the recs on where to get started
This could not have come at a better time for me, i've just started my journey into smw kaizo and it's been a bit rough here and there since i went from learn 2 kaizo, to the quckie worlds, to super ryu world 1. I wasn't sure what to play next, so this guide is a great help. Appreciate the recommendations!
Thanks Poo! I’ve been watching you play kaizo for so long when I jumped in I started with quickie 1 because I though I understood the tricks in kaizo, but lemme tell you, I got them intellectually, but in no way did I get their feeling. Took me a while. The yata at the end I of the game was so worth. Thanks for all the top tier gameplay
I absolutely appreciate these videos that address some of the questions that Poo probably gets in chat multiple times every stream. I do have to say though that I prefer Poo’s conversation style over this narration style. I think that this would work better if he talked about these topics with an outline of everything that needs to be talked about and then it gets edited for clarity by WeSkill. One time I needed to record something and I didn’t like how it sounded when I was reading it out loud directly. So I did three rounds of going over the script and then recording myself talking about everything in the script as best I could remember it. By the end I had enough takes to combine into something that sounded a lot better to me and took less time than what I was taking trying to follow the script perfectly.
@@WeSkillNow you’re welcome! Of note, this was a lot easier for me to do when talking to someone. Even if they just sat there and said nothing made it a lot easier for me. But everyone is different.
Damn I’ve been watching these beginner videos so much that I’m not even a beginner anymore! Crazy to think 3 years ago I beat quickie world 1 and I’m still learning everyday about kaizo. Btw just so you guys know, the skill doesn’t leave. Grind and you will get better at kaizo
This was a good video, I love that this is the exact list (minus sequels paired) that was suggested to me when I started Kaizo a couple years ago. I would love to suggest Robfeather, Ryu World, Cindy World, and Ey Juice as hacks to hit before Akagore. Akagore will help you perfect regrabs, but you will be on it for at least 60+ hours. Kaizo is so good.
Thank you so much my man! I purchased a Snes and just bought my sd2snes on the net, waiting for it atm! And this video is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I can`t thank you enough!
I appreciate the video and the recomendations, I think a lot of people watch and feel like trying. For me tho, it didnt really work out because while I like hard platformers, I suck at precise inputs. For example, at Learn 2 Kaizo eventually it has a room for a double shell jump, that I actually did, but then it later is required at a stage but I really cant do it consistently enough to be able to enjoy the experience. I played trough Celeste, played all B and C sides, and then when the extra chapter came, requiring those dash-into-ground-jump technique, it was over for me. Whenever I see a lot of shell juggling I have the same feeling. I enjoyed a lot more playing games like The End is Nigh, which can be hard, but not because of the inputs but rather the precision of the movement. But nonetheless, I really enjoy watching people like you GPB and the rest of the amazing community playing kaizo, its really awesome.
Thank you. I have been playing SMW since it came out, and also played harder hacks such as Second Reality. But whenever I tried a Kaizo, it was way too hard for me and I could never clear a single level. I have all the patch files for all the games you recommended and I will complete all of them and then try Dram World.
Just to warn everyone, while Kaizo Kindergarten is 2nd on the list, and it has a treasure of knowledge that will be helpful for you to learn, it is much harder than all of the others besides Dram.
I've played all of these hacks but not in this particular order, I started with Quickie 1 and 2, then Kindergarten and then Learn 2 Kaizo, but gave up on Dram World for the exact same reasons you mentioned here. I should get back to them from the beginning and play these in order.
I'm a mario noob, I started L2Kaizo today and did around 800~ attempts on the test #2 level that was featured in this video (the guy who said "pretty simple, right?") but I finally beat it before bed. Felt good.
I have played some of the hardest hacks in Celeste and have over 1k hours in the game itself. I have always wanted to get into kaizo mario because i grew up as a child with an SNES and Super Mario World playing on an old box TV but i never knew where to start. Hopefully this will allow me to begin that journey and let me experience something new. Celeste is still my favorite game of all time but its time to branch out.
personally i disagree with Kaizo Kindergarten as the second kaizo you should play, in my opinion it is way too much technical information that you dont need to understand before you start playing around with your first few kaizo's, i think that if you practice with learn 2 kaizo and 2 learn 2 kaizo you can hold off on kaizo kindergarten for a while, so dropping that one from the list, keeping the reset in the same order, i would probably add invictus to the list at number 1, invictus is a great hack that starts off at a decent level for someone that has finished the other 4 and really starts to challenge you after a few levels, but super rewarding to finish
I agree that Kaizo Kindergarten is way too much science and not enough art for most beginners, it is actually better when you have some experience under your belt. I haven't played Dram yet, so I don't know where it falls, but there is no way that Invictus is a beginner hack. But then again, Akogare isn't really a beginner hack either. Maybe it is just that the video has a bad title, and instead should be called The Five Romhacks Your Should Play First or something. I think Orcus, by Jordan, is a great transition from the beginner hack to intermediate, along the lines of Akogare.
Real question and not a complaint. I always watch the content and enjoy. However, I work nights and have not been able to sit in on a live stream in a fair bit. Did you finish Ironbros, give up or take a break? Just curious because I haven’t seen an IB upload in a while.
This is a great video. I recently started playing SMW Kaizo hacks too (I occasionally played very light Kaizo in Mario Maker 2 for years) and the first one I managed to make progress in was Quickie World though after the three shell jumps in the cave level I found myself wanting a shell hack so indeed the first Kaizo hack I finished was Kazue World. Now I set my sights on 3 Islands of Shells and I occasionally try to make progress in the first level of Advanced Shells but I'm currently developing a nasty thumb ache which is already forcing me to take a short hiatus. Did any of you have similar problems and do you have any tips to avoid that?
Kaizo Kindergarten just about drove me nuts. I finally just had to stop playing it and play some other beginner hacks. Then came back and it was a bit easier. It all started because I thought surely I could beat the first level of one of the GPW games. I was so wrong lol.
I watched many videos in Tik tok about mario rom hacks then i started with l2kaizo, it took me 5hrs to complete then my first one was baby kaizo 1 and 2, then i started with kaizo mario world 1 and ultra kaizo, i havent tried ultra 2nd lvl yet bc i dont have time but i had alot of fun
Great Video! The only problem is that when i when to one of the sites, it redirected me to another website witch made me allow notifications, and it showed me a fake notification about me "having 5 viruses on my computer". luckily, i have a keen eye and it said that it was the website. Stay safe and have fun!
I love lists for beginners! I finished "learn 2 kaizo", Love Yourself, Quickie World 1 and 2 and Baby Kaizo World. Now I'm playing Sure Shot after see you and @juzcook playing.
I would like to ask you personal opinion. You see the only smw rom hack I have actually played and beat is Super Cindy World, in approx 1 hour. Based on that, which rom hack would you suggest I do next
Poo. could you make a video on how to play these hacks. from downloading the rom and putting it on the cart or into the SNES classic? I'd love to play these, but have no clue how to actually play them. Thanks!
I'm not playing on original hardware. anyone recommend a good ergonomic controller for SMW in general? (Emulation through Wii) (Currently using GameCube controller)
I hope this isn't becoming the standard upload format. I don't mind the occasional talking video (game release, etc), but I come for the game playing content.

I started Kaizo Kindergarten beacuse of this video. Now I'm mad, balding, my family left me, and I've lost all my friends. Thanks Poo!
Damn that was quick, took my wife and kids 2 weeks to bail after I started playing kaizo.
Should’ve watched Poo with your family.
Families that watch Poo together *stay together*
Damn all that happened in 3 hours
To be fair, Kaizo Kindergarten, Akogare and Dram are not really beginner hacks. They are more on the low end of intermediate.

I love how between this video and Barb's where to start playing video, we have a ton of options for learning to kaizo.
