I like how Conner manages to maintain a perfect middle ground between a serious review voice with a professional way to narrate things, and his usual casual conversational way of talking; it's a very cozy style.
Not me freaking out when ProtonJon popped up because I literally just got done watching TRG not long before watching this. I'm glad to know about the history of Kaizo now, because I had only ever heard about it before. It's kinda fun seeing people thrive for a challenge so much that they play something that's nearly impossible.
I've heard of the Kaizo mods for Mario games but I never played them. (I don't like to be stressed when playing video games, it defeats the purpose) I'm sure that the Kaizo theme influenced kaizo courses in the Mario Maker games though.
They are VERY tough and grueling to get through. But the feeling of clearing a particularly challenging level or hack is the most rewarding thing I've found in gaming because you fricken earned it.
Great video! Cant wait to watch more. No biggie but at 2:13 you said "Electric gaming monthly" the magazine was "Electronic Gaming Monthly." No biggie, keep making great videos
SMW Rom Hacks > Mario Maker I grew up playing these hacks on my jailbroken PSP so I could play them on the go. That shit was wild back then for me. Fun times man.
I cannot fathom the amount of nostalgia your intro was able to awaken with the old youtube, internet explorer, and fucking azureblade49. I truly miss this early era of youtube so much. Curious if you ever watched Sonikdude101 (now Antdude92) and his early lets plays?
Kaizo Mario is something that probably would still exist even if you went back in time and stopped its original creator from making it. I've heard about it, I've seen gameplay of it, but I'll never play it or any levels from Mario Maker based off of it because it takes away the fun you're suppose to have with video games. I'll never understand why some folks want to torture themselves with level designs that look like the came from a crackhead. I'd like to *keep* my sanity, thank you very much.
Hey ConnerTheWaffle, here's an idea for a future ConnerTheWaffle video for all of your lovely ConnerTheWaffle fans out there; a ConnerTheWaffle feature-length-long multipart retrospective call: Conner's Sonic The Hedgehog Fan Games & ROM Hackstrospective Extravaganza!!!!
i remember playing a game like this (it was basically the same thing except a free browser game a mario game made to be bs as possible) this gave me so much nostalgia.
Hello my fellow Connor I am a og fan I'm pretty sure it was so long ago but when I click on your channel again I felt a big amount of nasolga I don't now when but I think it might have been right around 500 or so subs but I might be wrong but anyways I love your channel
A few things that separates Kaizo Mario from the rest: - It can be completed by an expert platformer. However it will provide even the best players with a very stiff challenge (about as much challenge as we plebians face with a normal game) - The level design is very good. If you are in the top 0.1% of video game players it is a very fun game to play with very clever gameplay ideas. - The TAS are entertaining to watch. However for full enjoyment it's more entertaining to watch a "playthrough" TAS (which completes the levels as intended, with no regard for speed) than an optimized TAS. Very few Kaizo hacks score on all 3 fronts Something like Pit of Despair, Pit of Death, and Item Abuse 1-3 qualifies on the latter 2 fronts but no human can complete them. Not even with slowdowns and savestates
When i was a kid I used to have a good time with mario hacks like Demo World, TSRP but then i accidentally played "Luigi's Adventure". It was my biggest piece of suffering ive ever played as a 9 year old and its not kaizo.
I go back and forth enjoying to watch this stuff but given that the main players of it anymore don't get the frustration. They know all the tricks and techs so it's never a get stuck on a spot for very long. It is interesting sometimes but a lot of times it just seems boring especially with so many super Mario maker 2 creators being the same people.
No, no no no no don’t you dare accuse all of us of using save states to beat these rum hacks I’ve never once never ever ever once used to save state. I like how you rhymed "fans" and "hands" top tier work 9.8/10 Game of the Year
Man, this really took me back. Thank you.
That transition into ProtonJonSA's video hit me HARD.
Amazing thumbnail!
Before I saw Kaizo, I was introduced to Brutal Mario, a derivative of Kaizo Mario. Ever since then, I have taken some interest in Mario ROM hacking.
You’ve played brutal mario world, nice.
@@bingobo2551 Actually haven't played it. Just watched videos showcasing almost all of the bosses.
@@SmokeTheHorsehog you played brutal mario too, it was my first and favorite mario rom hack game ever
@@doumanepower-up6501 Like I said, didn't play it. Watched boss rushes of it.
Super Mario World Hacks have the same feeling as DOOM Mods, they are very important and pleasing to play
Happy New Year Connor the waffle

So Super Demo World was released on 9/10/2001..... one day before.

Electric Gaming Monthly, the most esteemed gaming magazine specifically aimed at electricians :P

Now i want to know which is harder to beat:
Mario: The Lost Levels, or Kaizo Mario?
This does bring up a question in my mind, which is the hardest OFFICIAL Mario game?
I used to watch Sidbladeko's videos of the Kaizo Mario World playthrough series in the 00's
Hey Connor how's was Christmas?
what Super Mario World remix did you pick from 1:28 to 1:41 ConnerTheWaffle i would like to listen to the full song.

super demo world came out on sep 10 2001
1 day later

Conspiracy Theory: ROM hacking butterfly effect'd 9/11. Crazy the first rom hack released 9/10/01.
and a day later plane mario happened
WAFFLE MAN
When you make another dk video?
We did it garage gang hub is featured!
Young, shaven Barb
What was that Rom Hack that resembled the first Mario vs. Donkey Kong game?
4:59 Yikes... Super demo World was released 1 day before 9/11, well not the game, just the ips patch, but still.
Oh my god this video just made it dawn on me that "Retsupurae" is just japanese engrish for "Let's Play". I feel enlightened.
Okay I've only made it 9 Minutes in and I just want to say thank you really thank you now I'm gonna finish the video!✌️😎✌️
They also made a kaizo pokemon which is quite good. Still waiting for kaizo kirby so i can watch connor lose his mind XD
Now mario maker can make kaizo mario levels
The test didn't that hard
The test:
Bro the first ever rom hack was made a day later after 9 11💀
The Romhacking Community is a perfect example of "If X can't make Y, Then we will make Y"
Just remember:
If you used save states, you didnt beat kaizo mario
Yep, but for a newbie that is the best tool to learn to play.
Azureblade was my first love
demo world came out a day before 9/11
Whoa
If you think that this is the hardest one, you haven't searched enough
I can get lil Wayne's lollipop as a ring tone in 30 seconds!1!!!!1!!1
5:00 oh shi…
I'm 38 and still think Mario 3 and Mario 64 is way better than Super Mario World
