Yes gimme beginner hacks please. Since I started watching your channel I've wanted to get into Mario hacks, but they're just not accessible. Something to get me started would be great. Especially if they're really funny troll hacks.
Seeing GPW2 at GDQ is still one of my favorite runs at the marathon. Also, watching your playthrough was what got me hooked on your content. Hope to see your full playthrough of future rom hacks like that one!
Nice to see you give Invictus the credit it deserves. It really changed the scene (for the better), and it seems like there's not enough people being aware of that.
Scripted content? Top 5 video? Top tier editing? You're becoming a proper TH-camr. You've grow up so fast it's truly beautiful lmao . The only thing I miss is those longer episodic hack uploads where I could watch a more manageable cut of all your fails and eventual success on each level. I know it's not what gets the clicks, and I know the voice over on hacks is much healthier for growth, but I know this new style is gonna play out in your favor too. Looking forward to seeing what you continue to put out! Thanks for all the great content over the years. My personal favorite is your dark souls content from a while back. I really enjoy it when you step away from Mario every now and then.
I don't have the skill to play SMW ROM Hacks, but this list seems pretty solid. In terms of viewing, Invictus and GPW2 are second to none. One underrated thing about both of those, is that while they have a lot of "chocolate" (non standard SMW features for those who didn't watch lol), the creators don't make the mistake of just adding mechanics just to add them; they serve an interesting and intentional design purpose. Just because you *can* do something custom in SWM doesn't mean you *should* and both Juzcock and Barb nailed it.
I want to say Dode playing GPW was how I found your content - I had no idea the hack was named for someone at the time, and it was quite the pleasant surprise. Watching you work through GPW 2 was wildly entertaining and probably still stands as my favorite series you’ve uploaded here. (Glad to see Invictus and Celeste made the cut, too, with Lumi as an honorable mention.)
I paused the video before you got into the list to make my guesses (in order): GPW2, Celeste.smc, Invictus, Luminescent, & Baron of Shell. Glad to see I got 4 out of 5 right. Great list!
Getting to see clips of these amazing classics is wonderful, a bite size reminder of the wild rides we've had. I still remember the first time watching Invictus, it was definitely crazy. Never knew what to expect.
Invictus might be the most important ROM hack since the original Kaizo Mario. It's a close race with Super Dram World. Dram World brought Kaizo to the mainstream, but Invictus changed how we thought of a Kaizo hack forever and just blew open the floodgates of what was possible by taking away just about all restrictions.
I’ve never played a rom hack before. But watched a bucket load. Celeste, lumi and GPW2 are my personal favourites. Maybe when GPW3 comes out I’ll be tempted to dip my toes into the rom hack water
@@jayleno2192 Facts. I remember watching Poo play GPW1 and thinking "that looks fun" lol. But by playing it as my first rom hack, it made me not really want to play any more rom hacks because I realized how bad I sucked.
I have only been able to beat the first level of GPW2, but I have to agree it is so great. I have so much fun watching videos of people playing it and I use the Compilation Barb made for it as a pick me up when I’m feeling down. It always makes me laugh and brightens my mood.
I still love Fly me to the Stars, I feel like most hacks that do have cape levels aren't nearly as interesting or visually stunning with great flow as pretty much every level in FmttS.
Invictus had such a lasting effect on me not just for the amazing mechanics and level designs, but I downloaded the music from the Lake Bodom level to put on my spotify and never skip, the music was such an important piece of the hack
Honestly, what Barb did with GPW2 is waaay beyond what anyone could expect from a rom hack. Even if you ignore the amazing level design, music, aesthetic, secrets, etc... it legit has the most bonkers and elaborate puzzle I've ever seen in a videogame. Period. The man could walk home and retire after this one. But no - he'll be back for more. F*kc you Barb
Celeste is my personal favourite. Super Dram World 2 is another of my favourites. Honourable mention: SGDQ last year, the level by Furpy Barb that would rotate the screen and adjust the size of the objects? Easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen, even if it's not really a full hack.
My favourite hack is Invictus, for the reasons you stated. It revolutionized the hacking community. It's also super entertaining to watch, which is what I do (I don't play rom hacks, though I can see myself trying it sometime in the future). Plus, I love Juz so much.
No mention of the original kaizo but great vid otherwise. Just my opinion, but 100 rooms of enemies is slept on. I thought that would pave the way for some boss-rush hacks but they just didnt arrive.
The GPW2 compilation videos will ways make me laugh. Especially the reaction to that charging Chuck. Luminescent is a bias for me because the creator is from Quebec and it's nice to see a home grown hack recognized because it was amazing.
Or even the original Danger Zone. After all it REVEALED so much as to what could be included in a game. And I feel had the best graphics out of all of these.
I'm a low-mid level player and for me the most enjoyable hack I've played is Chain Reaction. 15 levels with Motor Skills?? Love it, and the replay value.
When I Saw "GPW2" as 1st placed I shouted "BIAAAAAAAAASED" then Poo just said "this is not biased". is his list, and is ok, GPW2 is a must play if you are playing kaizo. nice video, and waiting for the beginner ones video.
I know right, there are literally dozens of regular hacks that are way better, this video literally should have been titled Top 5 Mario Kaizo ROM Hacks of all time. it's borderline crazy to think any of these are above say the remakes of the second reality project hacks. Now, THOSE are art and push SMW to it's literal limit squeezing out pretty much every megabyte possible. If you haven't checked them out there is a trilogy called Mario Gives Up and they present a pretty solid challenge that isn't just ripping your balls off. The TSRPR, TSRPR2 and Mario Gives up 1, 2 and 3 would probably be my top five. I'm not sure of the order though.
I’ve beat Grand Poo World 2 and Invictus and they’re in my top 3, along with Hark 2 as my current number 3. Haven’t played the others in your top 5, but they all definitely belong there. Perhaps Hark 2 could be added to your honorable mentions list, but I have a feeling if everyone tries to add one your honorable mentions will be a list of its own. 😂 Awesome video!
While the video title does a disservice to some non-Kaizo ROM hacks that paved a lot of the way too (notably JUMP team's work), the video itself is clear enough that it's a kaizo list so nbd I guess. :)
Is "Chargin' Chuck Norris" honestly a more common name than "Clusterchuck", or did you just want to keep this video too purely family-friendly to say that one?
Definitely biased on that last one, but it probably is 1 or 2 anyway. Shoutout to The Joy of Kaizo, Super KeK World 2, and Super Diaonal Mario World 2.
0:57 remains the best port on SMWC, an ORIGINAL song by Lui37 (called Hydrothermal Hallow) AND is uses original samples...meaning it could have been in the original SMW (technically)
I mean I think we knew what was going to be number 1 LOL. I’ve beaten a few Kaizo Hacks (Started with GPW1, no save states. Great decision I know lmao), now I’ve played a few more to prepare myself for GPW2. My end goal is to beat GPW2 before Barb releases GPW3, assuming I don’t keep getting sidetracked with my new addiction now: Randomizers
This is my video about the best beginner friendly Kaizo hacks: th-cam.com/video/1QlYibSxr5U/w-d-xo.html
I was going to say Learn 2 Kaizo for beginners, but fair. Looking forward to the beginner hacks video~~~
can't believe 4th Chamber didn't make the list, truly an absolutely brilliant hack with the strongest aesthetic I've seen in a SMW hack to date.
Yes gimme beginner hacks please. Since I started watching your channel I've wanted to get into Mario hacks, but they're just not accessible. Something to get me started would be great. Especially if they're really funny troll hacks.

Have you tried easier hacks like Quickie World or some of the Standard hacks? Going straight into GPW2 is a bad idea for anyone.

Getting to see clips of these amazing classics is wonderful, a bite size reminder of the wild rides we've had. I still remember the first time watching Invictus, it was definitely crazy. Never knew what to expect.
S tier content. Don’t know where Poo will end up, sports commentator, host of a talkshow, anything, but it seems to be just a matter of time.

I doubt that GPW3 will be approachable for a beginner. Even a lot of the easier kaizo hacks like Quickie World are very tough for a beginner.
