    Always always!! Be sure to clean off the oil filter pad where the filter threads on to. Not very often but the old oil filter gasket can stick to the block. You screw the new oil filter, sometimes it will leak immediately. Or sometimes it’ll do what happened to my neighbor. He drove down the road about 5 miles it blew out. By the time he got to the side of the road he was out of oil and ground up his crankshaft.

    Hey next time you put in the intake manifold, you don’t have to remove the distributor. It fits with it installed.
    Also, if you take some old intake manifold bolts, cut the head off, and cut a slot in the top like a flat head screw, you can use them to guide the intake manifold into position and back them out after to install the bolts.

    • @Vaino_Hotti
      @Vaino_Hotti 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, SBF is great since the distributor doesn't go through the intake. Also using the cut off bolts as temporary studs really helps with keeping the intake gaskets in place.

    Check to make sure the old oil filter gasket didn't stay on the block. Also the coolant in the oil could've been from when you removed the old intake and some coolant leaked into the lifter valley.

  • @Captain_Solo

    Don't sweat it, I can't count the number of times I've had gaskets not go on right the first time. Since you don't know the motor's history double-check that the angle on your intake flanges matches the angle on your heads (it should but if the heads have been decked for more compression those angles can change). Also recommend making that high-temp RTV silicone bead on the ends nice, thick and continuous instead of dabbing it on, it's a bit of an art. Love from Canada!

    Anytime you do a intake manifold change residual coolant gets into the valley of the motor because you have water ports that run thru the manifold and into the heads and back into the block. Virtually nothing you can do about it except drain oil and replace with new oil. What you experienced is routine maintenance with this modification.

  • @rdspeedfab
    @rdspeedfab 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you kept the oil in the car while you removed the intake manifold, there’s a strong possibility that water got into the oil during the intake manifold replacement. I wouldn’t tear anything apart just yet. I would drain everything refill it and run it again.

    I love your videos, you inspired me to do the same carb and intake swap on my ‘66! It took me three times to get it right on my mustang. I used a big bead of black permatex on the front and rear of the intake manifold and a light coating surrounding the water ports. Let it sit overnight so it fully cures too! Also, when you are tightening the intake, do it a few times around to make sure every bolt has the correct torque. What a pain!

  • @thewhiteelephant
    @thewhiteelephant 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep, intake manifold gasket. I recommend Right Stuff for a proper seal. Be sure to drain the oil/water completely.

  • @2-old-Forthischet
    @2-old-Forthischet 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hopefully it's just the intake gasket. When installing an aluminum intake on to an iron head, it is very critical to follow some kind of torque sequence in stages and not just crank down the bolts in one step. Don't use ANY type of silicone sealant on the intake gasket itself. The sealant will allow the gasket to slip during the torquing sequence. I use to just use threaded rods to hold the intake and gasket in place first, then place install the bolts one at a time.
    If you're running points, junk them and get a light wave replacement. Just set it up once and you're done forever. I don't remember if you have an MSD box, but that thing is worth it's weight in gold.
    Good luck and happy motoring.

    Don't pull it apart ! You should just change the oil and see if you still get coolant in it again. You probably just drained some coolant into the block when you lifted the old manifold off. It's a pretty common thing. Also do you have GT40p heads on that thing? You can can tell because you will have 4 lines on the front of the cylinder heads.
