    XP Forge, which appears to be in the USA, is now selling some of the MC miniatures "epic" Napoleonic on their website. They have the same groupings as the stl file, which means the lots aren't usually convenient for unit sizes, especially cavalry. There are many useful figures, perhaps the most interesting is the Bavarians. This is possibly the most popular minor power army, probably because it's colorful and can fight on both sides.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to see places are picking up the commercial licenses, shame they’re not selling them as more rounded units though. The range his getting quite big isn’t it, I’ve just purchased the Spanish and the British Peninsular files, he’s a busy man.

    Nice update - the skirmish stands look great 👍. The 3D figures seem to fit in very well and, once painted up, I find it difficult to tell them apart. No manufacturer ever seems to have everything we want and so having the option to get ranges filled out is brilliant.

      Thank you. I’m really happy to have found these, I imagine I’ll be able to fill most of the gaps in the range that I need.

    I'm looking forward to your review of Soldiers of Waterloo.
    It is my favourite period of history, but sadly I have only ever known Black Powder. Back in 2008, fresh from A-lvls, when I started the hobby it was the only thing readily available to me. My friend and I used to juke it out with roughly coloured pieces of paper, haha! The glory days!
    It would be nice to try a new system after all of these years!
    EDIT: I must correct myself. We started Warhammer 40k in 2008, then moved to Black Powder in 2011.

    Nice work Stuart, always great to see the updates.
    My own Waterloo project is changing in line with Mike Tyson’s comment that ‘everyone has a plan until they get smacked in the mouth!’
    Separately I’ve been working up to a Black Powder ACW game of Wilson’s Creek that I played a couple of weeks ago. I can now field a painted Union force of 16 infantry regiments, 3 Cavalry regiments (mounted & dismounted), a Skirmish regiment, 16 artillery stands and 2 Artillery limbers + appropriate Command bases. I couldn’t fit any more on the 6x4’ table if I tried and if I did some of those units wouldn’t roll a dice all game.
    I have both the British and French starter boxes but I’m now nervous of further investment because as I use three bases to a Battalion I’m already at 13 infantry battalions per box. Add cavalry and artillery and I’m at a table full already. The 3D printed MC 95th is probably the way I’ll go as I really only need 1 sprue of Highlanders (and similarly Old Guard) to round out my armies. - especially with the recent WI Prussian sprue to add to the British.
    My Epic ACW experience suggests that I’m not trying to create the 7th Wisconsin regiment in July 1862 after they received a resupply of forage caps (but not before); more an ‘oh that’s a nice Union force and are those Zouaves…..’
    Building forces for a 10’ table game that I’ll never play is a pointless exercise so I’m now going to really compress my British to those that faced D’Erlon’s attack and my French to D’Erlon’s forces; no more than 16 infantry battalions plus calvary and guns per side.
    Obviously I’ll buy the RHA limbers if Warlord make them?
    Looking forward to your rules review as it’s always good to have alternative ways to play an army(s).

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m with you on project size, I’ve got way more models for both this project and ACW than I’ll ever need for my table size. I’m definitely thinking less in terms of painting them all, to painting for a certain project, then adding further different regiments when future battles and campaigns attract me later. British wise I’ll probably end up with separate 100 days and Peninsular armies.
      I’m hoping my copy of Soldiers of Napoleon arrives tomorrow, I’m looking forward to having a read.

    Another excellent update,the lights and rifles are excellent. I received a copy of Soldiers of Napoleon a couple of weeks ago and having read through them I really like the look of them. No lists for Peninsular or earlier yet but it’s not too difficult to work out your own. The concept allows for solo play pretty well and they look as if they have a lot to offer

      Can’t wait for my Soldiers or Napoleon rulebook to turn up, hoping it can be my weekend reading. Maaaaaaaaate! Please don't self efface so. Your uploads aren't boring, detailed waffle is bread and butter pudding in Geekhalla, keep pouring the ambrosia duuuuude and you don't neglect the nectar either (photies and footage)! The posts, you post, clearly are about wargaming as a passion. I personally can't recall ever meeting a gamer who wasn't detail O.C.D'd about minutiae...[miniatures do that, it's ok so long as one admits one has a problem] Who out of non gaming circles could read a rules set and be excited (ooh charts and stats)?! You are detailed and comprehensive, never boring. I must admit I do skip to the eye candy [sweet-tooth, my eyes are bigger than my paint brush syndrome] then I restart for the settle in long watch. However the quiet modesty is rather nobly charming. So, I guess I'll let you off this time. ;)

    Great video as usual. Someday I might check up on the 3D printer, but for the moment (and the foreseeable future) I have plenty to paint.
    BTW, you should be able to use those Dutch militia for Portuguese and Spanish (in their regulation uniform) after 1812. I have no idea how universal the new Spanish uniform was, but I must beleive (some version) become common at some point since it was being supplied by Britain.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 🙂
      Those Dutch Militia look really versatile, the uniform/sculpts are plain enough that they can be painted as many things. By the sounds of things he will have Spanish, Portuguese and British Peninsular stuff out by the time I get around to it, but if I’m sure there’s a Pugh now for me to make do.

    Great job as always! I'm loving the 3D printed stuff. It's quite amazing the level of detail that can be achieved even in 10mm. The technology has advanced so quickly it's astonishing. I haven't ventured into it yet due to temporary money constraints. But I may try it out later this year. As Paul Brockhurst said below, it's quite wonderful to see a fellow gamer so engrossed in something they love, you don't ever need to aplogize to us for that! Believe it or not, I've had a number of your videos playing on my phone while I'm painting, just because your voice is so great to listen to while I'm working on something.
    Oh, also...I've been calling you "Stewart" for the past several months. Is it actually "Stuart?" If so, my apologies!
    Will make sure to use the correct spelling from now on.

      I’ve have plans to do just that. I’ve been buying equipment and lighting to hopefully make it viewable, and extra cameras for different angles. It’s mostly me needing painting time to get enough done before I can start, will likely be a couple of months yet, especially with kids summer holidays fast approaching. I’ve got lots of ideas though, hoping to make them entertaining.

    The Dutch militia didn't have flank companies as far as I can tell and the Dutch Jagers wore Austrian style uniforms so those Austrian line from tat MC bloke would do the job for them.

      @@MiniatureRealms I've been looking at the same brigade as it was heavily engaged at Quatre Bras which seems to be a good starting point for the 100 days. Also have a look at the battalion strengths on that brigade, as the Jagers in particular were a big unit of over 800-men which makes them a large battalion in BP, whereas the militia were often much smaller units which may save you painting some bases.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been thinking of revisiting my plan now that I have the 100 days book, some of the scenarios look like fun starting points. There’s loads based around the area I was looking at as well. I could obviously have done all this myself, but they’re good to work from and add a bit of history back with exact OOBs.

    Great video as usual and great to see the 3D print options expanding to plug the gaps. The 'Soldiers of Napoleon' sounded quite interesting although I'm not really a fan of card driven games in general, I'll watch the recently posted batrep that Ralph Astley did on YT and see whether they put the game on too much of a random auto-pilot footing. What really puts me off about them though is that it appears that an entire section of the book dealing with pre 1815 seems to have been omitted despite another section dealing with the same period is there! It essentially refers you to an army list / details section that doesn't exist in the book, down to what looks like sloppy editing. The list aspect of the missing section wouldn't bother me so much but all of the other information that is essential to setting up the game etc for that period is missing too. Pretty poor really. This is not supplement material we are talking about, it's a section of THIS BOOK that is just missing. Not that interested in paying for half a rule book, particularly when international shipping comes in at a whopping £20! £50 for a partially complete rule book!

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you 🙂.
      I’ve watched Ralph’s review and battle reports as well, though admittedly the later in chunks with interruptions - it’s hard for me to find 3hrs in one sitting unless I’m working, and then I miss bits as my concentration is on work. I did find the description of a turn on Warwick’s blog, and the downloadable pdf description of a turn available from Gripping Beast pretty useful for getting an idea on gameplay and how the cards worked. I’m completely ambiguous on cards in wargames, I’ve played games where they’re perfect, others not so much. So far with this I’m very interested, the main question when I read the book will be around period flavour and if the rules restrict freedom to play historical (or fake historical) scenarios, rather than just being driven by the cards. My initial impression is that the cards are there to provide a way to introduce recourse management, they do this with the orders and rally functions and that looks good, it’s the special events that will need to balance well for me. I’ve got some thoughts on this that may not live up to reading the book, so will save it for the review.
      As far as the ‘missing section’/editing errors/list omissions, personally I’m not worried from what I’ve seen from Ralph’s review. If it’s just missing background/history for the earlier campaigns then I’ve got countless resources for that, it’s not so important in an historical wargame. I wonder if it wasn’t maybe cut (along with some related lists) as the book got too big for the printing budget. Hopefully will be later supplements, but it’s the core rules of this that will be most important to me, I’ve still never read the army lists section of Black Powder as I don’t intend to use it much if at all. Right now Napoleonic Wargaming isn’t a club game for me, so the need for a system of balanced lists isn’t required (yet). As for the editing errors I’ll wait and see. Sadly we see it a lot from all wargames companies, some better than others. I have a lot of sympathy, often one man companies who can’t afford professional editors, so it’s down to them and the play tester friends very often. I’m not saying we should have to except really bad levels of it, but its a symptom of the size of the industry, and I’ll reserve full judgement until I’ve read it.
      Shipping cost wise I’m with you, I wouldn’t be spending that right now either. Pandemic and post ‘B’ word shipping costs have become a genuine game changer. I personally think they should do a pdf version, but from what I’ve heard I’m not sure it’s going to happen sadly.
      …and while writing this it’s just arrived. 🙂

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MiniatureRealms If it was background material that was missing I wouldn't be bothered (I have more than enough material to bother reading the 'back of a fag packet' summaries included in rules). From the review though I gather it's the actual army lists for the period (the army structure was quite different) along with their various structural limits that are missing along with, even more importantly, all of the information that is needed for the rather complex pre-game set up which is pretty essential to actually playing the period in question. It essentially renders the period unplayable from a rules perspective. So we're not talking a few typos and missing junk, if my understanding is right it's a VERY significant omission. Increased postage costs are a problem for every company too, some just seem to be able to manage that issue a lot better than others. £20 to ship these rules from Gripping Beast while Chain of Command from TFL, a similar size / weight I suspect, just £10. BIG difference. The combination of these issues will put the rules in the 'Pass' tray for me.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely totally understand your reasons, especially the shipping, not sure why prices are so different. I know some companies have different shipping rates offered based on how many parcels are shipped, some probably choose to take a higher ‘hit’ on their margins, but it’s a real problem right now, and clearly leads to unhappy consumers.
      As far as the rules go, it’s an interesting point you make and it will help me balance my view on things a little in my review, as I think we come at it from different perspectives (which is great and useful for reviews). For me it clearly says it includes rules/lists for the 6th and 7th coalitions, it’s on the back of the book very clear in the blurb, so I guess that’s where I get my expectations. However I completely understand those who would like a more complete set all in one book, with a wider range of lists included. I’ll certainly been hoping for Peninsular War themed profiles and lists in the future, but I’ll be more than happy to purchase a supplement with this in while others may not.
      I remember Ralph saying he expected lists from 1805 in the book because of the first line in the rules saying it was for that period, but my interpretation of that was more that the ‘core rules’ were designed for that period, not necessarily the lists, the joys of interpretation eh? 😂 Ralph could be correct though, and those rules were written and removed because it was too big and they didn’t change the date. The short description on the Gripping Beast website doesn’t say what lists are included, only 1805-15, so that could lead to disappointment, but as said, the back of the book is very clear.
      If I line the rules and think I’ll use them a lot I may reach out to Warwick Kinrade and see if he wants to come on the channel to discuss the game further. Thank you for your thoughts though, interesting and informative as always.

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MiniatureRealms Absolutely. I'll be watching out for your review, it may well clear the missing information issue up or, worst case scenario, confirm it is indeed a problem. I have no problem at all if rules are sold in way that makes it clear that the main rules cover A-D and that E, F, G and H will follow as supplements, codex style (albeit I wouldn't be inclined to buy them). What I would take exception to though is rules being sold as covering A-D but turn out only to contain A & B. Given what you say about the back cover though, it could very well be an interpretation issue.
      Final point for me about them, while the cards have clearly been tailored to provide Napoleonic flavour there are only a limited number of them and ,even with shuffling, I worry that they would become repetitive to the point of being predictable, that would get old real fast.
      If you haven't done so already General d'Armee by Dave Brown are also a superb set of rules, pitched at Division / Corps level, Napoleonic specific and figure size / base agnostic. They are of the more 'modern' rules type too from an author who really knows his stuff.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good point on the cards, I’m very likely going to grab some card protectors for them, and I may well be tempted to customise some to suit my games at some point (can add a sticker to the protector rather than the card), can add scenario specific things then.
      I’ll have to take a closer look at General d’Armee as well, I’ve heard good things.

    Hi Stuart, fantastic as always. I contacted Marco a couple of weeks ago to see if he could print 16 in no. Epic scale small 15mm British skirmishers after seeing yours but he came back saying the cost to post would be 200% of the figures to print and therefore a no go. I do not have a 3D printer or know anybody who has but was wondering if you would be interested in printing the 16 British skirmishing in return for perhaps sprues of epic French/British/cavalry/infantry or I also have the buildings that came with both the French and British starter sets that I won’t be using.
    I have loads of the above extra and I would love to swap in return for you kindly printing the 16 British skirmishers that you showed which I love. If you could do this kind deed in good faith I can send sprues of what you might want or the buildings to you before you post the miniatures to me so as you know I am genuine here.
    Please let me know your thoughts and no pressure but would be extremely grateful. Had a look at green grey miniatures but keep getting directed to Facebook which I am not on and as u can probably guess I am not a techy person so 3D printing is above my pay grade 😂.
    Look forward to hearing from you .
