  • Warlord Games very kindly sent me some more frames for the upcoming Epic Battles Hail Caesar Punic Wars. I wasn't able to cover these in the first video so I decided to record another short one, cover some size comparisons that people have asked for. Also watch to the end to find out to win a full Pike & Shotte set.

    At the risk of enlarging my backlog i cant say no to more miniatures! Especially from such a great period. That being said, I've also ordered the Hail Caesar boxset so I'm really glad you'll be continuing to cover it.
    Best of luck doing the draw by hand!!

    I've almost finished two starter sets for the ACW and two of the combined Cavalry boxes for Epic ACW. Interesting to see how the scale has crept up. I have some metal ACW cavalry that I got second hand and was disappointed that they looked out of place. I intend to get a starter box for Hannibal and then decide whether to expand the Celts. Thank you.

    Great vid and some great looking sprues. I'd love to see if the ancients period had an expansion with a Phalangite frame for Epirus or the other Successor states. It would be a cool frame.
    The ECW is a great period for this scale. Given the small army sizes you can get away with a 1:1 ratio on the tabletop.

    • @simondrury7941

    Very excited for this but very suprised that the gallic do not get there own box they are already on there own sprues and are represented with enough minis for a box instead of spread over two. Going to be splitting a few boxes for a whole gallic army!!

      And honestly you can't even buy as many 6mm figures for the price😮

    Wonderful video - thanks! I'm a big fan of the Epic size . . . I wrote Warlord a few weeks ago that I felt they should print the sprues with 30mm widths so that the miniatures could be based on 30mm bases and be used with tonnes of additional rulesets. The 60mm widths of the castings make them only useful for a limited range of rules. I feel they would sell more of the sets if the sprues were cast for 30mm widths - they don't even need to include other bases, as fans could buy those. I understand that they would have to recast so many of their products that it is probably not worth the expense at this point.
    Now come on for Epic Medieval!
    Thanks for the give away, too. Very cool.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve not seen the rules or played Hail Caesar before, but can’t see why you couldn’t make whole army though. There may be the need to source other miniatures not provided, but it’s certainly something I’ll be looking into myself.

    • @johnoneill3654
      @johnoneill3654 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In the standard Hail Caesar rules there are several Celtic factions such as the Gaul's, Britons, Celtiberian etc. that are available to play.
      I've seen it said by the Warlord account on TH-cam that the Epic rules are essentially the same core rules at heart so I don't see why they wouldn't be available rules wise.
      As for models in the Hannibal box at least, there is Celtic warband units, skirmishers and cavalry which are the majority of Gallic units at least.
      From a quick glance at the army list book it appears that the core difference in Gallic units is keywords that make them from different tribes and alter their statistics as opposed to different models altogether.
      Hope this helps 👍

    Thanks for showing off the scale. When I first moved to the UK, I bought the Carthaginian PACTO box, which is 15mm. Would be interesting to see how they go together. Unfortunately all of mine are based on 80x40 bases. Do you think these ancient strips would fit? Is it possible to convert the strips and make them smaller like others did with ACW?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well the strips are designed for 60mm x 30mm, but I’m sure some people will cut them down. I’ve not tried though, and the 3 rank Romans will be tricky.

I'm a massive Roman Republic-era fan (I'm studying Classics) and im actually working on a large essay about the period at the moment so to see this covered here is great!
    I'll be honest, I'm only really commenting to get an entry because I recently started getting interested in Epic Historicals (I've been playing Epic Warhammer for a while now). Also, I live in South Africa so shipping would probably be an issue, but I may as well throw my hat in the ring😅.

    Have watched all your WG Epic content. Very much looking forward to the Punic Wars stuff, it’s one of my favourite periods. The big sets are unfortunately a bit too rich for my hobby budget. And since sample sprues are hard to come by (WI can’t send them to Continental Europe for some reason), I’ve never seen actual Epic minis in the flesh. Have been eying the “division” sets for some time. But if there’s a chance to win a set I’m in 😄

      They’re great games, and all use rule sets written by Rick Priestly, so have an element of old Warhammer in them to a certain extent.

    Not played any of them yet but these epic games from Warlord look great, I'm especially excited to check out the new Hail Caesar game. Having said that, I'd be extremely happy with a Pike & Shotte starter set. Perfect for some ECW action, or the War of the Three Kingdoms as we prefer to call it north of the wall ;-)

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s really nice to change between the two scales, some changes in approach (more about what final level I’m happy with), but mostly similar techniques.

    Would love to be entered in the draw. Very excited by Epic Hail Caesar , but couldn't invest in Pike and Shot as well! I am hoping for Greek and Persian armies from the time of Alexander to come through, perhaps in second wave and so may only buy a couple of battalions and the rule book than go the whole starter set big box!

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Been into historicals since I was 10... enjoy the epic scale, but why they kept the frontage and ranges the same as the 28mm rules was a miss. Our group adjusts that to do what you should at the smaller scale... play bigger battles.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I think I agree to a certain extent, it suffers most in Black Powder, ECW works well with the scale and basing. I think the bases and strips are designed with visuals in mind first.

    The new figures seem to be close to 15mm, as you say. Will be interesting to see if the blocks are used in other game systems. Can't see me going for them as I already have an extensive 15mm collection for DBA and MeG. I like the Napoleonics as they can be used as is, whilst painting them up.

    • @MiniatureRealms

    Just a minor nitpick: They are Gallic Celts (i.e. Celts from Gaul) Celts not Gaelic Celts. Of course one could probably use these miniatures to represent other ancient Celts.
    edit: I did later see you were doing a giveaway in the comment section of this video. So now I feel like a bit of an ass for leaving such a nitpicky comment.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      😂 Nothing to worry about, I took it in good humour, and it’s an important point. I am of course aware they’re Gallic, but clearly pronounced it incorrectly, so will try and not make a habit of that, though I’m sure I will butcher more pronunciation 😂.

  • @oliversotosainz
    @oliversotosainz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thank you very much for the size comparison. It is quite useful to get an idea about the miniatures. I guess they might be compatible with true 15mm, mostly by older manufacturers

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep that would be my guess, old school/true 15s, not so much the newer (closer to 18mm) ones.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s only a slight increase in size, they’re still only about 14/24.5mm from foot to eye, so a ‘small 15’, but it’s a good increase.
