    Excellent video once again. My stuff still sits waiting patiently in boxes and for the Guard / Highlander boxes to arrive. Just about to embark on a WW2 10mm project but that will be much faster than these. Really want a clear schedule for when I start the Epic Napoleonic then it’ll be head down until they’re done 😀

    Thank you so much for these painting vids. Been using all of your techniques with great results. Just a quick question and maybe this is more for the vid when you do the Great coats. I've been looking to use contrast graph charger grey as another color for the French great coats to help vary the color options. I'm just not sure whats a good highlight color for this. Any Suggestions? The Model Color Dark Sand as a highlight works perfectly for Contrast Skeletalhord.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Henry, I’m really glad to hear they’ve been useful. The way I’ve been highlighting the greatcoats is quite subtle, so I’d be tempted to use a light grey to highlight the gryph charger grey, as anything with a green tinge like it might just make them look green. This way you will still get that variety in tone from the colour that’s in the recesses, but not overpower it. I’ve used it myself and I think that’s what I did.

    Mate, I recently found the below details as a means of helping shako plume colours and where they deploy in a French battalion' from left to right
    Voltiguers (yellow) - 4th Coy (purple) - 3rd Coy (orange) - 2nd Coy (blue) - 1st Coy (green) - Grenadiers (red)
    Cheers

    I've been painting my first few strips of French and a colour that I can recommend for the the blue that's somewhere inbetween your two choices is another Vallejo colour called Prussian Blue 965. I don't have any contrast paints as I'm not neat enough for them to work but I'm getting similar results to you by light grey or white primer coat, block painting all the colours barring white, black wash the whole lot and then highlight colours that warrant it like the blues, reds, khakis, flesh. Lastly the final details is to go over all the straps and white trousers/ turnbacks in Vallejo Off White.

      Thank you for the paint recommendation Mike, I might grab some to see how how it compares. I like the sound of your method, I considered something similar.

    Hi mate,
    Had this sent to me because I bought the box.
    Excellent tutorial and really enjoyed the watch, great content and you’ve def won me over to sub.
    Something I’m really struggling with (this is my first experience of mini painting outside of 40K)
    Is how do I know what unit is what and what colour scheme I’m supposed to paint squads and what quantity of them squads I’m supposed to produce.
    If you could point me in the right direction I’d be grateful.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, firstly thank you and glad you like the content.
      To (try and) answer your questions I’d firstly say don’t worry too much, the kind of information you’re after will come. First off Black Powder (as well as many other historical games) is very different to 40k in terms of game set up, it’s not as strict about side of unit and army, and in many cases players look to re-fight historical actions/and or play games with no points or matched armies. The Epic Waterloo rulebook sets out how units are set up, so that’s a good place to start, but many people change this to suit themselves or their playing groups. This is very normal in historical gaming, if you’re used to 40k that might be strange at first, all depends on how you game.
      If you’re thinking from an historical point of view, there are some great documentaries on TH-cam about the period, just get lost in fun research. Book wise there’s obviously Libraries worth of texts on the period, though Osprey books on the period are great for a starting point, focus on many different topics (battles/tactics/uniforms etc), great for wargamers.
      I’ve included a link in the video description for the website I often use for Waterloo uniforms, just change the language in your browser if you get stuck on the French. I’ve also just added a link to the Epic Waterloo Facebook group that I set up when the release announced last year, it’s got over 2k members now and is extremely new person friendly, lots of experienced gamers in the period who will be able to answer loads of your questions.
      You can also find Miniature Realms (me) on Facebook, Instagram, twitter (links in the description as well). I’m always happy to help were I can, so feel free to shoot me a message on any of those places, my email is there as well if you don’t do social media.
      Stu

      Thank you. 🙂
      It’s a ‘painting handle’, this one is from a company called Redgrass Games. They used to be pretty widely available through hobby stores and on Amazon. The putty at the top is just orange coloured blu tak/poster putty, and you can get extra ‘heads’ that are easy to swap should you have multiple miniatures you’d like to have on them at once.

    The scale is measured from foot to eye so they are 10mm

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was definitely the old way of doing it, but wargaming ‘scale’ has never been exact or aligned from one company to the next.
      These are definitely way way bigger than any of the 10mm models I have, and I own quite a bit of Pendraken.
      These probably are closest to old school 15mm ranges like Minifigs (minifigs are slightly bigger), and not only do many gamers supplement in some models from those of ranges, but Warlord are also now describing these as old style 15s.

    You’ve reminded me of when I was an apprentice (1961). The bosses son wanted his red MG TF sports car respraying from a beautiful red to white. I mean all MG’s should be red. However, pale grey primer, two coats of white cellulose top coat, left to dry overnight.
    He opened the paint shop himself. He wasn’t impressed with his newly sprayed with his expensive bright pink sports car.
    Jim Elsby, the sprayer said “I told him, grey primer, black next then white primer the 2 coats of white finish with 2 days between coats”.
