Earnur is a fun one to muse, because it can't be unproven. But given Morgoths (and therefore presumably also Saurons) method of chaining people to mountains to watch the awful fate of their people unfold, wouldn't it be dark if Sauron or the Witch King had granted long life to Earnur and trapped him in the tower of Minas Morgul to witness Gondor fall. Worse still, if the witchcraft kept him alive into the time of the war of the ring and when the witch King fell the spell was broken and Aragorn giving the order to seal the land off was the final nail in his coffin, and the former King was never to be rescued but wither in his prison never to be redeemed...or worse still, is still there now!

After Aragorn becomes king, he bans anyone from visiting Minas Morgul. But, after many years he will order it to be restored and it will be renamed Minas Ithil Again. At least, that's what I read happened.

He used history as template, change its names and places, then add some imagination.
A lot of authors tried that formula, and Tolkien was one of the best in it.

Despite much of its lore-breaking, I love that Middle Earth: Shadow of War explains the Time of Watchful Peace as Talion's keeping Mordor in a perpetual state of civil war to hold evil at bay for as long as possible. Of course, the game severely crunches timelines and says he held the forces of darkness back for decades, when really it would be centuries, before he fell.
Regarding Eanur, I suspect he suffered a fate similar to what Hurin endured when captured by Morgoth. This could have entailed him being turned into a wraith, artificially kept "alive" to helplessly watch the fall of Gondor until the destruction of the ring and the Nazgul set his spirit free.
On a side note, one thing I love about Tolkien is he doesn't feel the need to explain absolutely everything, unlike most modern story-telling. He left much to his readers' imagination, which is part of the enjoyment. He never even hints who the Witch King was, nor tells Eanur's fate. He never mentions what was happening in Mordor during the centuries of watchful peace, allowing for fan theory stories like in Shadow of Mordor / War.

Probably turned into a wraith. We do not know how much the Witch King was able to make Morgul Blades back then, hundreds of years before the War of the Ring. Perhaps Earnur was a subject of experiment. Who knows? It is very likely that he was turned into a wraith, if the Witch King could do it. Perhaps he comited suicide upon realising what his fate was. Yet, if turned into a wraith, it would be interesting to know how much of his former self and free will was kept. Perhaps he, eventualy, succombed to the treatment he got, regardless if he became a wraith or not, and found true death.

I'm going to go with he was turned into some sort of wraith and existed in that form until either the destruction of the Witch King or Sauron's final downfall.

King Earnur for sure didn’t die. A king of such a bloodline. You don’t kill that off. Dead is not useful.

It's why I like the Mouth theory. Adds some layer to "Is there no one here with the Authority to treaty with me?" Because who could treaty with a King, but another King? Thus the Mouth's initial distress at meeting Aragorn at the reveal.

I think King Eanur became corrupted by Sauron and turn into the mouth of Sauron. Aragorn killed him at Gate.

That'd be cool and epically ironic, since Aragorn is his heir and relative (descended from Isildur).

Minas Ithil is a unique location in Middle Earth Shadow Of War and when it became Minas Morgul . I enjoyed playing the Middle Earth games : Shadow Of Mordor and Shadow Of War .
I liked how much exploration it was to visit Minas Ithil in Shadow Of War and learn more about the LOTR lore 🙂

  • @NOIDEAIWILLJUSTUSEHAILEYIGUESS
    @NOIDEAIWILLJUSTUSEHAILEYIGUESS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

This is just me, but I've always been a big fan of the LOTRO theory that Earnur was stabbed with the Morgul Blade when dueling the witch king, turning him into the figure later known as Gothmog, the Lieutenant of Morgul. This would make his return to Gondor at the Pelennor a lot more symbolic in the story, having the last king return from Minas Morgul, leading the garrison from the city.

I don’t want to see any depiction of Minas Ithil by the wokesters at Amazon, based upon their attacks on fans and hatred of Tolkien, in essence viewing him as a sexist and racist.
Their words, however, have no power here. Or viewers, as they’re about to find out

King Earnur was stabbed by the Witch-King's Morgul Blade, thus adding the last 9th Black Rider to the Nazgul. Earnur is short form for Earendil. Earendil became the Silmaril Star of the Sky (Venus). Therefore he was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Assuming Phosphorus' Association with Venus as a Red Colour); the Last 9th Reindeer to join Santa's (Satan's Alternate Form→Sauron-Annatar's) Sleigh.
