you all probably dont care at all but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
It’s a great starting point Matt. I would put weight on the wheels, brass knuckles, overdrive the front, move rear shock towers forward, dual stage foams, clock the motor as you mentioned and maybe lower overall ride height. With these mods I absolutely would Comp with it and probably kick some butt. 😂
The more I see the C2X the more I like it. I think with a few mods this could be a good truck to own. Looking forward to seeing future mod videos with this truck. Thanks for the review!
Much appreciation for your honest impressions, and a great review! (apologies, lengthy post below...) I've been watching all of the C2X videos as they come out because, out of all the 2019 holiday R/C releases, this one has the strongest hold over me. I own an assortment of crawlers, from nearly stock to heavily upgraded. However, I've never owned a hardbody and really like the idea of working within the limitations they have on ultimate crawling performance, but getting extra satisfaction out of having something with a more scale-accurate appearance. I have some very "scale" terrain in my area, where my 1/10th crawlers look as if they are navigating 1:1 obstacles, and the C2X would be a perfect addition to my garage. Sure, it could use a couple minor changes, but I have all the parts I'd swap (wheels, tires, battery connector, LiPo packs) except the bumper(!) I've checked out other RC4WD vehicles before, and the cast metal axle housings and leaf springs combined with the lack of fender clearance to run a larger tire were just too many negatives for me. It's got to be able to at least make it up the places that I go to, after all. There's a limit to how challenging I want it to be, don't want it to be like taking a stock 4x4 work truck on little A/T tires hill-climbing and rock crawling... disastrous! BTW - the perfect low-cost RC4WD bumper replacement option can be seen on this RCCrawler.com member's Marlin - www.rccrawler.com/forum/attachments/rc4wd-trail-finder-2/383661d1568729584-img_20190913_220949.jpg - and the bumper is Delrin, like the bed and skid of the C2X - makes it inexpensive - link here: store.rc4wd.com/Tough-Armor-Comp-Series-Flush-Mount-Bumper-for-TF2_p_6937.html
Great counterpoint! Sounds like you've got it figured out and this truck will work exactly the way you want it to. That's why I love this hobby, so many options, to fill nearly everyone's need! Thanks for the reply!
That rear tyre swirl had me mesmerized, psychedelic man!!! Yeah the front bumper is kinda weird but seeing as they cut the body right up to the grill for more clearance it wouldn't make sense to have it in a regular position so I get why its so high. a Marlin bumper might be a better option ! but as it is theres a ton of clearance. On the whole I like it, its got lots of potential. and being halfway through 3D printing an interior for the FJ60 seeing an included interior always gets a thumbs up from me lol
I definitely would do a lot to make it class 2 ready. Lexan body, new wheels tires foam, upgraded steering servo, and would do something different with the bed. All in all I wish they made a Lexan body kit version
Hi! I would go with the Element Trail Runner. It has more upgrade potential, more modern crawling experience, and has a better build quality. Good luck and have fun!
Nice truck, those MTZ tires are actually really good! That "outcry esc" appears to be yet another rebrand of the Hobbywing 1060 which is a solid esc but a simple 1080 is so much better, I'm glad the servo isn't on the passenger side like the other models, I did a video a while back on a Marlin TF2 with the motor on the passenger side and steering servo on driverside that worked out well. Its searchable on my channel if you want to see the work I did to make it work.
In areas of Canada with slightly higher taxes, this thing is going to be around 750 CAD. Doesn't look too bad over all, but the rear bed thing annoys me for some reason lol. Great review!
I just ordered one! Had a bunch of gift cards for my local hobby shop, so i only paid 360$ for the c2x! I like the look of it, wanted to try a new chassis, and a hard body! Cant wait till its here!
Please do the 'prepping for C2' build series. I'm new to the crawler scene and have no idea what makes a good C2 truck. I went to ECSC this year, and despite asking the guys tons of questions I still don't know enough to have a handle on what's good and what sucks. I would love to see a full series from choosing the truck to building/testing and then going to a comp.
A video series on setting up a truck for Class 2 SORCCA events would be awesome, many clubs are running SORCCA based rules but maxing out the scale points at 30pts, this seems to be very common and does effect how much "scaling" gets done over performance issues. Looking at a many pure SORCCA based Class 2 hard body, scaled trail rigs does not match what you see at many Class 2 SORCCA (based) events as they feature heavily cut lexan bodies, no drivers, almost no accessories and the rigs are really stripped down for low weight/low center of gravity performance.
we run 50 scale point limit for class 2 here in italy. would love to see a video series for this truck, just got mine and thinking about how to lower body and improve cog.
Hey from Australia🇦🇺👍.Depending on rules.. Maybe some bigger diamitor wheels, change shock position to lower cog, longer travel shocks maybe weighted front end underdrive/overdrive as well, sliders, def lift and push front bumper in closer to body or cut and modify. Not exactly sure as what else you could do as I'm new to crawling but have a pretty good under standing of them due to watching a lot of vids like this.👍ps. maybe rear portal conversion would also help.🤷♂️😁
I’m torn between this truck or the Marlin . Every truck I own is a Rc4wd ( I have a regular tf2 and the Desert Runner ) and I’ve always had nothing but good luck with them . I know they are two entirely different types of trucks , springs vs leafs etc etc . I don’t comp or anything like that mainly just trail stuff should I stick with the Marlin or give this one a shot ?
An unusual way to go as you said most people start with a box of part's that are good for a comp vehicle then stamp their own signature in the build, with a smattering of rtr parts that on their own are not comp worthy but once masarged into a truck or buggy work, but not a whole vehicle so yess I think it would e an interesting build to see what else it needs to be competetive by disgarding some part's and adding your own, so I say run a build on here to see what it takes, but first run it as it is before the build about what most of us would do first.
Good honest review! Although im not really sold on this truck. I had a horrible experience with Rc4wd when i bought my tf2 years ago. I run a vaterra ascender in class 2 comps in ontario and it does really well considering it doesnt have alot into it. Keep up the good work on the videos!
I like the detailed body and interior. I would change the front bumper, add sliders (as you said), change wheels and tires and add a roll bar to the delrin bed...for starting mods.
OK, so if I'm bored and want something to take on a hiking trail as opposed to competing with is it a good option? I'd honestly prefer the cheapest thing that would handle some off road
Id run 50% droop with beeftube ar44s, clocked motor, brushless set up, turn the t case to overdrive the front with the hot racing overdrive in the axle and id fine tune it from there.
I am extremely interested in this platform and am very excited to see what mods you do to this especially since I have a Beast II 6x6 and have been considering clocking the motor mount in the R3 2-speed it has.
hey man I bought one last month and the front center suspension link wasn't attached to the axle , a broken bolt with no threaded end and no nut ? Do you know what size would work ? Or where I can order one ?? Reached out to RC4WD within the first days got a run around and they messaged me days ago saying they shipped the replacement part ,tracking number hasn't been registered and I'm over the wait .... I didn't think spending 600+ on this RTR I'd have to wait a month and a half to try it
Personally I would attempt the hard body at first. Remove the standard t case skid and replace with a flat skid Run a full droop set up 30w front 60w rear. You can run the rear with what could be called a semi droop by adding more fluid to keep more pressure under the piston helping keep more weight to the front slowing the drop moving over obstacles. The links can be made to have more up and down travel just by switching to a bent rod end. Which would further lower center of gravity. Front bumper has to go run a shorty rather than that. Rear foams seem like they need a stiffer foam and tuners and just tuners for the front. That’s how I’d start and it’s already planned following my current build.
I really like the look of that thing. Love the Body so would it be still be a good base to start a build in this style when you like the look of it or should (or can) I get the body seperatly and should start with a different chassis overall?
Yes do a series on this truck would love to see what you can do with it, I’m a little intrigued by this one kinda cool .... it’s got a lot of potential The front bumper has me a little like 🤮🤯
I have one of these. I'm not into looks. Here's my question. I took it crawling. It's like taking a 2x4 crawling. It's stiff. I think it's the hard body. Could you switch it over? It could you use this chassis for a lcg or lower it?
The front end needs to be narrowed with a small metal bumper. Any class 2 rig is going to need a servo winch and it looks like there is no room for one on this truck. I like that it's right hand drive, needs a driver. Looking forward to see what you do to it!
I would consider making the rear of the chassis rails longer to except a full scale truck bed Altho it would make the rig a little longer adding a truck bed with the side panels to match the 4 door body I think it would look better than that truggy? style bed.and clock the motor defenetly would help in the performance in my opinion. But that's just my thinking.I most definitely would love off those ends that block the headlights and and a winch between the front frame rails to help with the lower CG.Again that's just my way of trying to make a better RTR.I guess in short to each their own. Thanks for sharing. One other thing tho why not have a frint center pumken off to the side under the drivers side or something off center just for that more authentic look of a scale rig.Just a thought.
Great review brotha! I was gonna buy one but after this. I gotta say I'm not too thrilled. I'll wait and buy it used, cuz I dont believe the hype lol. Thank you for sticking to real rc rigs and crawling. These other rc youtubers are taking a paycheck thru "WL TOYS" and trying to sell off these dollar store crawlers and rock racers lolol
Hey brother, love your videos, gonna go like them all after this. Let me ask pls: If it were your first crawler, would you get this or the TRX Defender? I love the look of both of them Much appreciation
Glad to know I am not the only one that thinks this model is recycled parts from other rc4wd models.. not sure if a proline cage is class 2 stuff but, I think it would look better than the delrin bed they have on it.
First thing I’d do if I got that rig was get rid of that TF2 style bumper. Obviously it slightly impedes approach angle, but the fact that it covers half the headlights just grinds my gears. RC4WD put a good rear bumper on it, why not put the same type of bumper on front? Oh well, guess that’s where custom work comes in. Other than that, that rig looks really cool.
Because of where it sits, it's actually not that much of a bother for approach angle. Works pretty well. I wish there was a chassis mounted servo option on this.
at first i thought no on the rear bed but add a rear cage and i think it'll look awesome, i quite like this truck , mabe a 2 dr would be even beter tho
I’d suggest you start with a kit. You learn an awful lot more about building and preparing a truck that way. The aftermarket for parts is very rich for models from Traxxas or Axial, or Element!
I like this rig - but what I´m a bit concerned are two things: 1st) The mounting of the body with normal screws - thats way to laborious for a battery change! And on a long term maybe a bit stressy for the hardbody! 2nd) The gearboxes open gears. They are right in the position of flying dirt and little stones of the front wheels! So you would have constantly dirt in your gears!
the first thing is to lower the center of gravity as much as possible, if it was me. I would clock the motor down and get one of the new lighter outrunners that are available from a one of the manufacturers that have them available paired with a micro sidewinder because they are super light. next is to get rid of the electronics plate, followed by home made metal sliders out of something light, like .019" aluminum. mounted to the chassis at the skid bolts and bending up and around the edge of the body stopping short of the body mounting holes, kind of like boat side style. it will be easy enough to work the .019" with but still strong enough to do the job and after some abuse will dent slightly for a more scale look. and now that you have your new aluminum sliders they are a great place to mount your electronics, and battery to keep them low. then i would weight the interior. I have a sneaking suspicion that its not very light and I would probably build a home made 4 seater interior out of the same .019" aluminum i used for the sliders and it would end up being lighter and would receive an extra -2 scale points for custom interior. Outboard the bottom of the shocks as much as possible, and then test and tune and adjust upper links for roll center and anti squat as needed and try not to have to add any weight to the front if possible. sorry for the long winded response. lol
I'd definitely get rid of the front bumper and mirrors first if it was going in to a C2 comp. Mirrors won't last on the rocks and the bumper sticks out too far.
I think its a good idea to do a video build of this truck n build it into a comp capable truck. Itd be very inspiring to others, including myself, n give good direction on how-to. Why not do a budget comp build? Low cost, but comp capable rig?
As a class 2 comp RTR.It would have been nice if the front center pumpkin was offset instead of being in the center like the rear pumpkin. But that's just my opinion. But it looks like a capable rtr.And room to make it even better with some mods.
I would probably just try lowering the cog first and see how it works out. then maybe some weights (minimalist) and an outrunner setup like holmes revolver. low and smooth equals getting the W
I like it I think it'll be a pretty good considering it actually looks like it's almost the proper scale compared to its you know Chevy and Ford and Dodge counterpart scale trucks
Sweet truck. I have gotten into 1/24 crawlers and got bit pretty hard. I have 2 now one being an axial Bronco that does pretty decent. What I have learned is that even these little guys get expensive, especially in Canada. With a moderately modded bronco and 4WS bead bolt and parts, I’m prob into it for close to $1000 (got a bit of wheel and tire thing…). I would be afraid of how quickly this scale adds up. With that being said, I would love to see a build series on this. I love the scale hardbody look and this is one I could see myself getting. One of the many things I learned in the smaller scale is tires are prob the easiest change you can make to net the most results, how are the tires on this cause I would assume the suck like all stock tires.
@@scalebuildersguild thanks for the feed back, it’s Canadian btw but yeah, I have seen some way more capable albeit more used / older and more modded. Save a TON of money starting with something already with mods.
Finally a review on the C2X were the reviewer isn’t falling over themselves to tout a ho hum release by RC4WD.
Ha! Thanks very much!

Awesome honest review!
Yes please do a modification video of what you would do to make it C2 worthy.
I'm definitely looking at it!
Agreed
That rear tire mod looks WAY good, might have to do that to mine as well.
Just give it the beans when it gets a little bound up! I recommend hammering down the nut on the slipper clutch!
Scale Builder's Guild will Red Loctite it for good measure and add extra nut.
It’s a great starting point Matt. I would put weight on the wheels, brass knuckles, overdrive the front, move rear shock towers forward, dual stage foams, clock the motor as you mentioned and maybe lower overall ride height. Scale Builder's Guild I completely agree with you 👍
The more I see the C2X the more I like it. I think with a few mods this could be a good truck to own. Looking forward to seeing future mod videos with this truck. Thanks for the review!
Yep, it needs a bit of work to get it truly competitive, but it could be done I think.
I really like the idea of this truck. Will have to pick one up to make videos of on my channel.
Go for it!
your intros are gold!!! informative and educational video as always.
Haha, thanks very much!
Thanks for the informative and very honest review, good to see it driving👍🏽 It would be really cool to see you do a little build series on this truck.
I'll definitely do that!
Thanks for actually driving it. Looks good on the trail. Theres no comps around here or hobby shops. Its lonely here. 1 is the loneliest number.

@Rc Guru No, there's no overdrive in this truck. The tire spun the bead, that's it.
Ive never had a rc4wd, maybe it would be a good truck to try rc4wd. does seem like an axle swap and front bumper swap are in order.
Yep, probably!
The front end needs to be narrowed with a small metal bumper. Any class 2 rig is going to need a servo winch and it looks like there is no room for one on this truck. I like that it's right hand drive, needs a driver. Looking forward to see what you do to it!
Yeah, no servo winch is a problem. Hope to come up with a solution for that!
First here, 5 o’clock in the morning here on the west coast!
Congrats!
Question sir, let’s say someone bought this truck and wants to swap to VP rock jocks or F9 how and what would I need to do so??? Much appreciated!
I've always wanted to get into rc mudding trucks
What do you think would be the first one I should I get?
I’d build a TRx4 for that. Watch Harleydesigns channel for one!
@@scalebuildersguild ok ill check it out thanks 👍
Excellent review friend.
Cheers!
@@scalebuildersguild Cheers from Barcelona!
please do a build up video series i'd love to see what you would do to this rig
Consider it considered!
I only review things I actually use! Thanks for the kind words!
Hey brother, love your videos, gonna go like them all after this.
Let me ask pls: If it were your first crawler, would you get this or the TRX Defender?
I love the look of both of them
Much appreciation
Thanks for watching! If I had to choose between these two, it would go to the Defender.
Thank you, I’ll order it, the local place has the Hardbody, I was ready to run down there 🤣
Peace and love 🙏🏻
Wondering if they make portal axles for this.If so should they be put on
Why?
Great video👌🏼is there any cast axle upgrade for C2X?
Not that I know of, but machined ones are available.
Scale Builder's Guild thank you, where should i look for and if you have a part number I’ll be appericate👍🏼
Nice truck
Haha
Is the chassis long enough to put a standard bed on it, I like most of the the truck but would love mount a standard rc4wd bed on it
Some people have done that, you’d have to come up with your own mount for it, but it could be done!
Glad to know I am not the only one that thinks this model is recycled parts from other rc4wd models.. not sure if a proline cage is class 2 stuff but, I think it would look better than the delrin bed they have on it.
I'll see if it'll fit.
@@scalebuildersguild cool, I would like to see that if it does..
Awesome video. But will a proline roll cage fit on it ?
Probably not. I'd have to investigate that to be sure though.
What's up with the rear crazy tire wrinkle?
Tire slipped the bead. Has nobody seen this before? It’s pretty common.
Scale Builder's Guild what option are you referring to?
at first i thought no on the rear bed but add a rear cage and i think it'll look awesome, i quite like this truck , mabe a 2 dr would be even beter tho
Two door could be cool!
I kinda want this truck.
Your video has helped me with making a decision.
Its somewhere on the list haha
I’m wanting to get into RCing would you recommend this as a starter?
I’d suggest you start with a kit. You learn an awful lot more about building and preparing a truck that way. The aftermarket for parts is very rich for models from Traxxas or Axial, or Element!
Scale Builder's Guild something like the element enduro?
Where can I get one of those Jeep body’s you have back there painted silver?
I like this rig - but what I´m a bit concerned are two things:
1st) The mounting of the body with normal screws - thats way to laborious for a battery change! And on a long term maybe a bit stressy for the hardbody!
2nd) The gearboxes open gears. They are right in the position of flying dirt and little stones of the front wheels! So you would have constantly dirt in your gears!
To first, look here: th-cam.com/video/Z-nhbWBDSMI/w-d-xo.html
@@scaleaddicted That’s what I have done ✅
Hey what truck is that in the background In your shop on your right side? Kinda looks like a Toyota something?
It's been a while, but I think it's the 5th Gen 4Runner.
@@scalebuildersguild thank you !
Trailfinder 2 kit is best ever
Stick radio?
Sorry, meant pistol radio!
the first thing is to lower the center of gravity as much as possible, if it was me. Outboard the bottom of the shocks as much as possible, and then test and tune and adjust upper links for roll center and anti squat as needed and try not to have to add any weight to the front if possible. sorry for the long winded response. lol
You’ve definitely got a plan! Thanks for the detailed ideas!
I'm gonna take mine to a competition and compete as is to see what it will do
I'd definitely get rid of the front bumper and mirrors first if it was going in to a C2 comp.
Mirrors won't last on the rocks and the bumper sticks out too far.
The mirrors are soft rubber and conform around obstacles, and garner you a scale point!
I think its a good idea to do a video build of this truck n build it into a comp capable truck. Itd be very inspiring to others, including myself, n give good direction on how-to. Why not do a budget comp build? Low cost, but comp capable rig?
A great idea. Many of the things I'm working on should be free, or near-free.
Swap out the electronics, XVD axles, O/U drive gears, Metal Drive Shafts. Maybe tires, IROCs or Pitbulls.
Needs sliders for sure, and 3s and a BEC.
You can run this truck on 3S in stock form.
As a class 2 comp RTR.It would have been nice if the front center pumpkin was offset instead of being in the center like the rear pumpkin. But that's just my opinion. But it looks like a capable rtr.And room to make it even better with some mods.
There's still a ton of room to make it better!
Beautiful video)
Cheers!
right hand drive?
Yes, this particular Hilux (4 door) was popular down under.
Yep, not bad looking at all!
Great video as always. I’ve learned and saved a lot of $ from your videos. Keep ‘er goin!
Glad I can help!
4:30 pointing out on just tire ripple alone. sweet.
Haha
I really enjoyed this review my friend. I would put a driver in first because that's the way I roll 😀👍👍
Right on, thanks!
@@scalebuildersguild 👍👍
would you consider this as the best rtr available to date?
No. Not at all. There are better, more current choices.
@@scalebuildersguild can you give me some options pls??
Gotta take out the screws and take the body off for each battery change?
Not after the grub screw mod I did.
@@scalebuildersguild Just used regular pinion gear grubs?
Yes, longer than that, 10mm should do it.
Jesus, this video is 3 years old!
It is, there’s also a full build up series to make it more ready for competition. I encourage you to watch it!
@@scalebuildersguild I definitely will. I found a basically brand new one on market place for $600, not sure if that’s a good deal or not.
@@egibson2266 in my opinion, no that’s not a good deal. You can get a substantially more modern truck that is far more capable for less.
@@scalebuildersguild thanks for the feed back, it’s Canadian btw but yeah, I have seen some way more capable albeit more used / older and more modded. Save a TON of money starting with something already with mods.
The drive shaft all kits have it
What dose it take to have a class 2 ready truck
Wouls love to see a kyosho outlaw rampage made to look scale
Is that the one with the motor ON the axle?
@@scalebuildersguild yes it is I know its not scale but I got one and like to see you thoughts on it and ideas to make it look a bit more scale
You probably won't see that from me, but nothing stopping you from doing it!
